My Cold-Hearted Husband Wants Me Back -
Chapter 98: The Price of a Loose Tongue
Chapter 98: The Price of a Loose Tongue
Lunara stepped out of the ice cream shop, the door clicking shut behind her as she exhaled slowly. The afternoon sun spilled over the street, warming her damp clothes.
Naomi trailed close behind with Mila in her arms, "Let’s just go back, it must be sticky."
Lunara just hummed as a reply. But then, they had almost reached the car when a hand yanked Lunara’s arm.
"Don’t even think about walking away!" Sienna barked.
Lunara, who was being turned forcefully, took another long breath, her expression almost identical with the cold expression Eryx always put up. Sienna’s manicured nails were still gripping her sleeve, her lipstick slightly smudged, and the faint red mark on her cheek glowing like a badge of wounded pride.
"I’m not done with you!" Sienna snapped. "You think you can assault me in public and just walk off? I’m going to sue you for this. Hair-pulling, slapping, public humiliation... Oh, this is going viral."
She reached for her phone again, waving it dramatically as if the screen alone could summon a courtroom.
Lunara snapped her arm back, but Sienna’s grip only tightened.
"Let me go," Lunara said through gritted teeth, her low voice sounding a bit threatening. "You assaulted me first and expected me to just stand there? What am I? A punchbag?"
Sienna scoffed. "You provoked me! You think being pretty and pretending to be calm gives you the right to humiliate me?"
Lunara’s eyes darkened, the last thread of her patience fraying. She took a step closer, her voice cool but sharp enough to cut.
"You threw water on me. Twice. Called my child ugly. Spat lies about who I am. And now you’re clinging to me like a leech and screaming about dignity?" She leaned in just enough for Sienna to flinch. "Let... Me... Go."
Sienna’s hand hesitated but she didn’t back down.
And that’s when Lunara pulled out her phone.
No more playing patience. No more walking away.
"I was trying to handle this with grace," she murmured, dialing a number with practiced ease. "But you wanted a show? You’ll get one."
Sienna crossed her arms, narrowing her eyes, judging hard as Lunara pressed the phone to call someone, "What? Grace? Grace is not for someone like you." Arching her brows, "What now? Decide to call your sugar daddy?"
Lunara closed her eyes, holding onto the last thread of her patience. The phone rang. Once. Twice. Three times. Her thumb tapped anxiously against the side of the phone. Still no answer.
’Pick up. Please, just pick up.’ She bit the inside of her cheek as the call kept ringing.
Nothing.
The line cut to voicemail.
A slow exhale left her lips, disappointment flashing in her eyes before she straightened. Her grip on the phone tightened, jaw ticking.
Sienna laughed dryly. "Wow. Even your daddy decided to go to his wife today," she mocked, puckering her lips.
Naomi leaned in again. "If he’s not picking up, just let the bodyguard handle it."
But before Lunara could respond, Sienna took a step closer, still riding the high of her mockery.
"Oh, what’s wrong?" she sneered. "Did he finally realize you’re not worth the money? Or maybe his wife took his phone?" She laughed out loud.
Lunara’s gaze slowly lifted. "Just for your information, I am my husband’s wife—"
"Second one?" Sienna cut in before she could even finish. "And that poor kid, doesn’t even know she was born out of wed—"
A sharp slap landed on Sienna’s cheek before she could finish the sentence. She didn’t need to. Everyone already knew exactly what she was about to say.
"How dare—"
Another slap came, louder than the first.
"How... dare... you?!" Lunara shouted, her voice trembling with restrained fury. "Say whatever you want about me but don’t you ever drag an innocent child into your filthy mouth!"
Sienna stumbled, holding her face, speechless now under the weight of Lunara’s glare.
A quiet tension settled in the air. Even Naomi, who’d been enjoying the drama with folded arms and amused eyes, let her smirk fade. She watched as the color drained from Sienna’s face.
Naomi turned slightly, her voice low but clear enough to reach the few onlookers still hovering nearby.
"You shouldn’t have messed with her," she muttered, like a warning too late.
Sienna looked around, her arrogance wavering as she realized all eyes were no longer on Lunara but on her. And none of them were sympathetic.
"Sue me? Go on," Lunara said, her voice cool and sharp. "But just a soft reminder... you... will go viral again. Only this time, not for that shoe design you were so proud of." She paused, eyes narrowing. "But for your business going down the drain ’cause you couldn’t keep that mouth of yours in check."
Sienna’s jaw tightened. "Bluffing is easy, isn’t it? Who are you to talk big, like destroying my company is some kind of hobby?"
"It is that easy..."
A calm, commanding voice spoke from behind, making everyone turn.
"Because she’s my wife."
Eryx’s cold, composed face met their stunned expressions.
Sienna’s brows drew together. "And you are?"
Naomi rolled her eyes, crossing her arms. "Wow. I guess neither of you went viral enough to be actually known in this city." She let out a low chuckle.
Eryx didn’t even blink. "You’ll be getting a call soon," he said flatly. "I hope your lawyer’s better than your attitude."
It hadn’t even been a full minute before Sienna’s phone buzzed in her hand. She frowned as the screen lit up.
"Hello?" she answered, her gaze still locked on them. "What the hell are you talking about?!"
Neither Eryx nor Lunara flinched. Only Naomi looked visibly satisfied, arms crossed, smirking like she’d been waiting for this.
"Grantham...?"
The moment the name left the caller’s mouth, something shifted in Sienna’s eyes. Panic crept in fast. Her expression twisted as she finally looked, really looked at Eryx.
Recognition hit. And regret soon followed.
Her voice cracked slightly. "W–wait, I didn’t know..."
Without warning, she bent down, attempting to kneel. "I’m sorry... I— I didn’t mean to... please, it was just a misunderstanding..."
Lunara, unfazed, turned away from her and looked at Eryx instead. "When did you arrive?"
Eryx raised a brow with a ghost of a smile. "For a while," he said casually. "You did a good job slapping her face."
He reached out to brush a hand through her hair, clearly amused.
But Lunara slapped his hand away, her eyes sharp, voice rising with fury. "Did you find it amusing?" she hissed. "Was it fun watching me get humiliated? Letting her say whatever she wanted, just to see how far I’d go?"
