My Cold-Hearted Husband Wants Me Back
Chapter 95: Ice-cream Trip

Chapter 95: Ice-cream Trip

The house had been too quiet lately.

It had been more than a week since the reporters flooded the gate, since Eloise’s outburst and the scene that followed. But now, no drama, no tension, just long, still days. Too still, if anyone asked Lunara.

She wasn’t used to doing nothing.

Sighing, she lay sideways on the couch, gently rocking her foot back and forth. Even the air felt slow.

Then came the tiny patter of feet.

Mila appeared beside the couch, holding a plush bear by one arm. Her curls were messy from her nap, and her cheeks were still pink.

"Mommy..." she mumbled, rubbing one eye with her fist. "Mila... want ice cweam..."

Lunara sat up immediately, looking down at her daughter, then reached out to tuck some hair behind her ear. "We have some in the fridge. Wait a while, I’ll get it for you."

Mila shook her head hard. "No... pink chop! I want pink chop." Her lips puckered into a stubborn pout.

Lunara frowned. "Hmm, how about I call Daddy to buy it before he comes home later?"

Mila’s pout only deepened. "Mila wants to eat ice cweam. Now, now." She suddenly sat down on the carpet, frustration written all over her small face.

Lunara furrowed her brows and crouched down to scoop Mila into her arms. "Daddy didn’t allow us to go out," she said softly, then pointed toward the window. "See? It looks like it’s going to rain soon."

Of course, she was lying.

But Mila wasn’t having it. Her eyes welled up, and before Lunara could say anything else, she burst into tears.

Before Lunara could try to convince her otherwise, Naomi peeked into the room, grinning as if she’d been waiting for this moment.

"Actually, that ice cream place isn’t that far, the little one near the park," she said. "And honestly? I wouldn’t mind going too. Some fresh air would be nice."

Lunara raised a brow. "And you think he’s going to say yes?"

Naomi shrugged. "Only one way to find out."

Lunara hesitated. She glanced down at Mila, who was still sniffling quietly in her arms, her small hands clutching her bear like it was her last hope.

"Alright," she murmured, reaching for her phone. "But don’t get your hopes up too high. He’s probably neck-deep in work."

Naomi gave her an encouraging thumbs-up before disappearing, probably going to change her clothes.

Lunara stood, balancing Mila on her hip, and dialed Eryx’s number. It didn’t take long for him to pick up.

"Yes?" His voice was slightly husky, low, and edged with distraction, he was definitely in the middle of something.

"Sorry," she said, softening her tone. "Are you busy?"

There was a brief pause, a shuffle of papers on the other end. "No, it is okay. What’s wrong?"

"Nothing serious," Lunara replied, shifting Mila on her hip. "It’s just... Mila’s been asking for ice cream. But not the one we have at home. She wants to go to the pink shop near the park."

Eryx didn’t say anything at first. She could practically hear him processing it, his protective instinct kicking in.

"She refused everything in the fridge," Lunara added, gently. "And when I tried to distract her, she started crying."

Another beat of silence.

"You know, it’s not like I’m forbidding you to go," Eryx said quietly. "It’s just... I’m still worried about your safety."

"I know." Lunara stepped closer to the window, lowering her voice. "But—"

"Let me talk to her," Eryx said suddenly.

Lunara blinked, then nodded and put him on speaker. "Here, Daddy wants to talk to you," she said with a soft smile, holding the phone near Mila’s face.

Mila sniffled, her little nose still pink from crying. "Daddy... ice cweam," she mumbled, rubbing her eyes. "Pink chop..."

On the other end, Eryx’s voice immediately softened. "Mila, sweetheart," he said, warm and careful. "You really want to go out just for ice cream?"

Mila nodded at the phone. "Mila good girl. Mommy too. Naomi come. Pwease?"

Lunara bit her bottom lip to hold in a laugh.

Eryx let out a breath, almost like a defeated sigh. "Okay. Just one hour. You stay close to Mommy and Naomi, alright?"

"Okayyy!" Mila squealed happily, bouncing a little.

Lunara took the phone back. "We’ll be careful, I promise."

"You better," Eryx said, half serious, half resigned. "I’ll be home early. Keep me updated."

"We will. Thank you."

"Is that all?" Eryx asked, his voice calm, but Lunara could hear the teasing behind it.

She smiled and raised an eyebrow, adjusting Mila on her hip. The little girl’s curls were still a bit messy from her nap, her bear hanging loosely from one hand.

"What do you want?" Lunara asked, feigning suspicion. "A poem? A song? A handwritten letter of appreciation?"

"I was thinking something along the lines of a kiss. But that works too."

She rolled her eyes, trying not to smile too much. "Fine. I’ll bring you back a napkin from the ice cream shop. That’s romantic, right?"

Eryx chuckled. "Just make sure you two stay safe. Text me when you get there."

"We will," she said, her voice softening. "And thanks again."

As the call ended, Mila gave a triumphant little cheer. "Pink chop!"

Naomi appeared in the hallway, now dressed and ready. "Ice cream awaits, ladies. Let’s move."

Not long after, they were standing just outside the small pink ice cream shop near the park. Mila was already bouncing in Naomi’s hold, her eyes locked on the giant ice cream cone decoration spinning lazily above the entrance.

Lunara, however, sighed as she glanced around. Four security personnel, dressed plainly, but still unmistakably watchful, they stood at various spots nearby. Though they kept a respectful distance, their presence was anything but subtle. A couple of them even had earpieces, murmuring softly to one another.

"I feel like a celebrity on house arrest," she muttered under her breath.

Naomi handed Mila over and nudged her playfully. "You know he wouldn’t let us go out just like that, right?"

Lunara adjusted her grip on Mila and sighed. "Yeah, but four guards? At this rate, people will think I’m smuggling diamonds in my diaper bag."

Naomi laughed, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. "Well, Mila is pretty precious cargo."

Mila, oblivious to the tension, pointed excitedly at the pink sign above the shop. "Ice cweam! Pink!"

"We’re going, we’re going," Lunara said with a smile, bouncing her gently as they headed toward the cheerful storefront.

Behind them, two of the guards lingered near a parked car, keeping a respectful distance but still drawing a few curious stares. The other two kept a wider perimeter, one occasionally speaking into an earpiece, the other scanning the sidewalk.

Across the street, behind an old lamppost and half-shielded by the crumbling edge of a brick wall, a man stood silently.

Dressed in muted colors, a cap pulled low over his face. His gaze followed Lunara’s every step, his eyes narrowing as she laughed at something Naomi said.

He didn’t move. Didn’t blink. Just watched.
