My Cold-Hearted Husband Wants Me Back
Chapter 78: Lust Or Love

Chapter 78: Lust Or Love

Lunara instantly pushed the door closed, using all her strength to keep Eryx from entering. "What are you doing?!"

"Let’s talk," Eryx said, applying more force to push the door open.

"We have nothing to talk about." Lunara gritted her teeth, holding on with all her might, but eventually, she was overpowered and forced back.

The moment Eryx stepped inside, Lunara rushed to the bedside, grabbing her belongings in an attempt to leave.

"I said we need to talk." His voice was low but firm, carrying an undeniable command.

Lunara shot him a sharp glare. "And I said we have nothing to talk about." She made sure to stress every word.

"Why are you doing this?" Eryx reached for her arm, but she quickly pulled away. "I was searching for you like crazy."

Lunara tilted her head slightly, then sneered. "And why? You left me there.... was I supposed to build a house and wait for you?"

Eryx reached for her hand again, and this time, he managed to grab it. "No, I didn’t mean to leave you there. I was trying to let you calm down—"

"Yup." She nodded, letting out a dry laugh. "By leaving me in the middle of nowhere? That was a great way to help me ’calm down.’" Her voice dripped with sarcasm.

"I was waiting for you not far from there, but when I came back to look for you, you were already gone."

Lunara yanked her hand free and scoffed. "Then maybe you should’ve thought about that before deciding to abandon me in the first place."

Eryx exhaled sharply, his patience wearing thin. "I didn’t abandon you."

"Oh? Then what do you call it?" She crossed her arms, her eyes burning with anger. "Because to me, it looked exactly like that."

Eryx was speechless. He closed his eyes for a few seconds and took a deep breath. "I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have done that."

"Woah, woah..." Lunara held up her hands. "The mighty Eryx Cyrus Grantham just apologized? The CEO known for being cold-hearted actually said sorry... to me?"

"Lunara—"

"Stop it." She held up her hands again, this time to cut him off before he could make more excuses. "I know what we are, and I know I don’t even have the right to sulk. So, Mr. Grantham, let’s just proceed with the divorce. I don’t want to drag this out any longer, and you can move on with your engagement as soon as possible."

Eryx frowned. "You read the article?"

Lunara let out a dry chuckle. "Oh, I didn’t just read it. I practically had it shoved in my face the moment I checked my phone." She crossed her arms and unlocked her phone, shoving the screen in front of his face. "She’s really beautiful. And rich. Definitely someone on your level."

Eryx barely glanced at the screen before meeting her gaze. "I am not getting engaged to anyone. And no, we are not getting a divorce. Don’t even dream of it."

Lunara let out a bitter laugh, stepping back as she folded her arms tightly across her chest. "Why? Why are you dragging this out?" Her voice wavered, but she held her ground. "You married me for a deal. Nothing more. You needed something from your mother, and I was just part of the bargain. That’s all I am to you."

Eryx’s expression darkened. "That’s not true."

"Then what is?" She clenched her fists, frustration and hurt bubbling to the surface. "Because the past week, you’ve been different. You acted like... like I mattered." Her voice cracked at the last word, but she quickly composed herself. "And stupidly, I almost believed it. I almost thought maybe... maybe I wasn’t just some placeholder to you."

Eryx took a step closer, his voice low and firm. "You think I was faking everything?"

Lunara exhaled sharply, her confidence faltering. "I don’t know. And that’s the problem. I don’t know anything when it comes to you."

Eryx slowly cupped her face. "I’m sorry. I’m sorry for everything." His thumb brushed against her cheek as he continued, "I’m still trying to figure out my own feelings. My emotions have been all over the place. And when I saw you again after two years, it felt strange... like suddenly, I couldn’t bear the thought of losing you." He let out a soft chuckle, as if in disbelief at himself.

Lunara gazed at him, searching his eyes for honesty.

Eryx exhaled. "That’s why I kept pushing you away and pulling you back. It wasn’t intentional. I just didn’t know how to deal with what I was feeling. I thought keeping my distance would make it easier, but every time I tried, I just ended up coming back to you." He let out a bitter laugh. "And yet, I still managed to hurt you, didn’t I?"

Lunara remained silent, her fingers unconsciously tightening around her phone. She wanted to believe him, but the past week had been a whirlwind of mixed signals, and she wasn’t sure if she could trust what he was saying now.

Eryx let out a slow breath, his grip on her face gentle but firm. "Would you believe me if I said I fell in love with you?" He chuckled, shaking his head. "No, right? Because I don’t believe it either."

Lunara frowned, but before she could say anything, he continued.

"I kept thinking... maybe it’s just lust. Maybe I’m just drawn to you because it’s something new, something unexpected." He scoffed at himself. "After thirty years of my life, I never felt this way, so I had to make sure."

His thumb lingered on her cheek as he looked at her with something unreadable in his eyes. "I tried to convince myself that it would fade, that the feeling would pass. That if I left you alone, I’d stop thinking about you." He let out a humorless laugh. "But it didn’t. It just got worse. Every damn time I tried to walk away, something kept pulling me back."

Lunara’s gaze sharpened as she met his eyes. "Let’s confirm it then."

Eryx frowned. "What do you mean?"

She held his stare, unwavering. "Let’s confirm if it’s lust or love."
