My Cold-Hearted Husband Wants Me Back
Chapter 72: Being Monitored

Chapter 72: Being Monitored

"What?" Lunara blurted out, her voice an octave too high. "No, you—you can’t just say things like that!"

Flustered, she spun around too fast, her heart racing. In her panic, she misstepped, her own feet betraying her as she stumbled forward.

A startled gasp left her lips, but before she could hit the ground, Eryx caught her, his hands steady on her waist.

For a moment, neither of them moved. Her hands were braced against his chest, his warmth seeping through the fabric. She dared to glance up, only to find him staring at her with that same unreadable expression.

Eryx let out a quiet chuckle, his grip still firm. "You always run first and think later, don’t you?"

"Always? Since when do I always run?" she shot back, trying to steady herself.

Eryx didn’t answer right away. Instead, he gently pulled her up, helping her stand properly. His hands lingered just long enough to make sure she wasn’t about to trip again.

"Better?" He glanced down at her feet. "You didn’t twist your ankle or anything, right?"

Lunara shook her head quickly. "I’m fine."

Eryx hummed as if he didn’t quite believe her, but he finally let go.

"Good," he said, slipping his hands into his pockets. Then, bowing slightly, he leaned closer. "So... Can I?"

Lunara, who had hoped he had already forgotten about it, felt panic rise in her chest again. "Who the hell asks for permission to kiss someone?"

"So, I should just kiss you, then?" He closed the distance slightly, his voice dropping lower.

"You never asked before," she shot back, her breath hitching.

Eryx’s smirk deepened. "That’s true," he murmured. "But last time, you looked like you might hit me."

Lunara’s fingers twitched at her sides. "And you think I won’t now?"

"I’m willing to take that risk," he said, tilting his head ever so slightly.

Lunara sucked in a sharp breath. Her heart pounded in her chest, and for a brief moment, she forgot how to move.

Eryx paused, his gaze flickering over her face as if reading every little reaction. Then, instead of closing the distance completely, he simply smiled.

Before Lunara could process it, he leaned in and pressed a quick, featherlight peck on the tip of her lips.

Her breath caught. It was barely a kiss ,just a fleeting touch but it sent a jolt through her body all the same.

"What?" Eryx murmured, brushing his thumb lightly over her flushed cheek. "You’re too cute to handle."

Lunara’s breath hitched, her body betraying her. Before she could respond, he leaned in closer, his lips just near her ear as he whispered, "If we were at home, I might have already kissed you properly."

A shiver ran down her spine, and she instinctively took a step back, bumping into the fitting room wall. "Y-You—"

Eryx smirked at her flustered reaction. "What? Just stating the truth."

Lunara glared at him, her heart still racing. "Get out."

He let out a low chuckle but obeyed, lifting his hands in surrender as he stepped out of the fitting room. "Fine, fine. But don’t take too long, or I might change my mind and come back in."

She groaned, throwing a glare at the door as he closed it behind him.

Her fingers brushed over her lips again. "Am I an idiot? Why did my heart flutter?"

She shook her head, pressing her palms against her warm cheeks. "No. It was just a surprise... nothing more." She murmured again.

Taking a deep breath, she turned back to the mirror, avoiding her own reflection as she reached for her clothes. She needed to calm down quickly and get out of here before her thoughts spiraled any further.

Outside, Eryx leaned against the wall, a wide smile forming on his lips as he recalled Lunara’s adorable reaction.

"Done?" He straightened up when Lunara finally stepped out of the fitting room.

Lunara avoided his gaze and nodded. "I’ll just take this one for now." She held onto the dress she was still wearing.

Eryx arched a brow. "Just one? What happened to the five?"

Lunara scowled before slightly stomping her feet heading towards Eryx, "Come," she pulled his shoulder softly, asking him to lean down, "The dress at this store is not really my taste." She whispered.

Eryx chuckled, leaning down as she pulled him closer. "Then why didn’t you say so earlier?" he whispered back, amused.

Lunara huffed. "Because someone was threatening me to pick five."

His smirk widened. "I suggested you pick five. You’re the one who took it as a threat."

She rolled her eyes and stepped back. "Whatever. Let’s just pay and go." At that moment, she turned around and frowned. "Where are Mila and Naomi?"

Eryx, who was already at the counter paying, turned slightly. "Mila couldn’t wait for her strawberries and got a little grumpy, so I asked Naomi to take her home first."

Lunara blinked. "Wait, so they’re not coming back?"

"Nope," Eryx said casually, handing the cashier his card. "It’s just us now."

She crossed her arms. "You planned this, didn’t you?"

"Do you really have to accuse me? Nope, not my plan," he said, walking toward her after finishing the payment. "Here, take this."

"What’s this?" She frowned, eyeing the card in his hand.

"Since your previous card was stolen, I replaced it," he said, taking her hand and placing the card in her palm. "I deposited the amount you should have received over the past two years."

Lunara immediately handed the card back to him. "I don’t need this. I have my own money now."

Instead of arguing, Eryx suddenly frowned, his gaze flickering toward the entrance of the store. His expression darkened as he spotted a few figures lingering outside.

Without a word, he rushed toward the counter, grabbing both the caps they had left there. His sharp gaze locked onto the staff at the counter. "Did you call them?"

The staff suddenly went pale and hesitantly shook her head.

Eryx didn’t wait for an answer. He strode toward Lunara and gently placed the cap on her head. "Keep your head down. We need to go."
