My Cold-Hearted Husband Wants Me Back -
Chapter 69: Mom Is Not Wrong
Chapter 69: Mom Is Not Wrong
"Oh..." Lunara fixed her hair, awkwardly tried to cover up, "Mila pooped, so I am going to ask you where did you put her diapers because..." she gulped, looking elsewhere, "hmm Amara said, she forgot to bring one."
Eryx narrowed his eyes slightly, clearly unconvinced. He took a step closer, lowering his voice. "Mila’s bag is in the car. I’ll get it."
Lunara nodded too quickly. "Right. Good. You do that." She turned on her heel, but before she could escape, Eryx’s voice stopped her.
"Lunara."
She swallowed, slowly turning back to face him.
Eryx studied her, his expression unreadable. "How much did you hear?"
Lunara forced a small laugh, "I was really focused on the diaper crisis, so... probably nothing?"
Eryx didn’t look convinced. His gaze held hers for a long moment before he exhaled sharply. "Stay away from Adam."
Lunara blinked. "What? Who is that?"
"You heard me. That man earlier, make sure you avoid him at all cost." His tone was firm, leaving no room for argument. "He’s not someone you want to get involved with."
Lunara frowned. "And you are?" The words slipped out before she could stop them.
Eryx’s jaw tightened. For a second, he looked like he might say something, but instead, he turned away. "Wait here. I’ll get the bag."
Lunara let out a breath she hadn’t realized she was holding as she watched him walk off. She glanced down at the floor, a strange tightness settling in her chest.
Why did she feel this way? She wasn’t sure if it was frustration, confusion, or something else entirely.
Before she could dwell on it, Naomi appeared beside her. "Hmm..." she drawled, her eyes flicking between Lunara and the direction Eryx had gone, "That guy looks familiar," she muttered, more to herself than to Lunara.
Lunara hesitated for a moment before saying, "Oh, Eryx mentioned his name. Adam...?"
Naomi’s head snapped toward her, eyes widening. "Adam? Adam Will?"
Lunara blinked at her reaction. "You know him?"
Naomi let out a low whistle, shaking her head. "That’s not a name I expected to hear."
Lunara’s stomach tightened. "Why? Who is he?"
Naomi crossed her arms, her expression turning serious. "Let’s just say... if Eryx is telling you to stay away from him, you really should listen."
Lunara felt a chill creep up her spine. "That bad?"
Naomi sighed, glancing toward where Eryx had disappeared. "Worse." She hesitated before lowering her voice. "Adam isn’t just some random guy, Lunara. He and Eryx... they used to be close. Best friends, actually. Until everything fell apart."
Lunara frowned. "What happened?"
Naomi hesitated for a second before shaking her head. "It’s not my story to tell. But trust me, nothing good comes from being involved with him."
Eryx returned with an empty hand, his expression unreadable. "Let’s go," he said briskly. "Just take Mila from Amara. We’ll clean her up at home."
Lunara blinked as she looked at Naomi, sending a signal.
As in cue, Naomi refused, "No. We’re still having our girls’ day out." She frowned as she continued. "You’re not dragging us away just because you’re in a bad mood."
Eryx’s jaw tightened. "Mila’s uncomfortable."
Lunara furrowed, "But...you can change her and do we need to go back too?"
Eryx’s jaw tightened. "Mila’s uncomfortable. Let’s just go."
Naomi huffed. "Oh, come on. You can change her here."
Lunara nodded. "Yeah, we’re not cutting our day short just because you decided to show up in a bad mood."
Eryx exhaled sharply, clearly losing patience. "It’s not about me. It’s just better if we leave."
Naomi crossed her arms. "For who? You?"
Eryx’s gaze darkened, but before he could snap back, Lunara stepped in. "We’re staying." Her tone was firm, leaving no room for argument.
Eryx’s fingers twitched at his side before he forced himself to speak evenly. "Fine. Then I’m coming with you."
Lunara’s eyes widened. "What? No. It’s a girls’ day out."
Naomi scoffed. "Yeah, what are you gonna do? Sit there awkwardly while we talk about skincare and gossip?"
Eryx didn’t budge. "Go back home, or let me follow. Your choice."
Lunara clenched her jaw, frustration bubbling up. "You don’t need to work?"
"Nope." Eryx just raised an eyebrow, waiting.
Naomi groaned. "Ugh, you are such a pain." She turned to Lunara. "Fine, just let him tag along. He’ll get bored in ten minutes and leave."
Lunara disagreed. "But..."
Eryx crossed his arms. "But what?"
Lunara narrowed her eyes. "But you’re not going to hover or make things weird."
Eryx smirked. "Define weird."
Naomi rolled her eyes. "See? This is already weird."
"Make sure you keep a distance of a meter away..." Lunara spread her arms, "Since we ’didn’t know each other’." She sarcastically said those words to remind him.
Eryx let out a low chuckle. "Right. Strangers. Got it."
Lunara shot him a pointed look. "You were the one who wanted to keep this marriage a secret, remember?" She folded her arms. "But now, one after another, you keep announcing that I’m your wife."
Eryx didn’t even look guilty. "Only when necessary."
Naomi snorted. "Oh, so this is necessary?" She gestured around. "A casual girls’ day out suddenly needs husband supervision?"
Eryx shrugged. "Just making sure nothing unexpected happens." He smiled. "I’ll go and take Mila first."
Naomi suddenly stopped him by grabbing his arm. "You know, right? That woman is interested in you."
"Mila’s aunt?" Eryx guessed. "Hmm..." He nodded. "Well, this time, I’m sure. Thanks to my lovely wife here, I managed to get rid of her."
Lunara frowned, feeling annoyed at his words.
Naomi shook her head. "I figured as much. You’re not the type to show up without a reason. So... Mila won’t be going back to Vivienne’s family?"
Eryx shrugged again. "So far, she hasn’t done anything to harm Mila. I just need to avoid her, not break the ties between Mila and her mother’s family."
Naomi shook her head. "What’s so hard about listening to Mom? She’s not wrong."
Just as Eryx was about to respond, Amara suddenly appeared, looking frantic. "Oh, thank God!" She barely slowed down as she thrust Mila into Lunara’s arms. "I have an urgent business trip and I completely forgot! So yup, return her back to you Mr. Grantham."
Before anyone could say a word, Amara wrinkled her nose dramatically. "Ugh. Good luck with that. It’s bad." Then, without another glance, she spun on her heels and rushed off, leaving Lunara frozen in place, holding a very smelly Mila.
Naomi sighed. "Well, at least she didn’t do any harm to her." She rolled her eyes sarcastically at Eryx.
