Chapter 60: Gideon Is Out
Lunara shot Eryx a side-eyed glare. "Excuse me, Mr. Eryx, I hurt my head, not my legs. I can walk just fine." She slowly tried to pull her hand away from his firm grip.
"Still, just to make sure you don’t fall," he said with a smile.
She frowned. "What am I, a one-year-old baby learning to walk? And stop smiling like that, it sends chills all over my body. I prefer your cold and scary face."
His expression shifted instantly, the smile vanishing in an instant. "Are you sure?"
Lunara hesitated. "Hmm..." She cleared her throat, suddenly recalling the scene at the studio the other day. "Just don’t smile too much." She quickly looked away, afraid to meet his eyes.
When they arrived at the lobby, they expected to see the driver and Callum waiting for them, but the space was empty.
Eryx’s brows furrowed slightly. Without missing a beat, he pulled out his phone and dialed a number. "Take a seat," he said, gesturing to the nearby waiting area. "I’ll check what’s going on."
Lunara nodded and sat down, hugging her handbag as she watched Eryx pace a few steps away, phone pressed to his ear.
"What do you mean? How did that happen?"
She could hear bits of the conversation but wasn’t paying much attention, until a shadow suddenly loomed over her.
"Miss me, my daughter?"
Lunara’s head snapped up, her breath hitching as she met Gideon’s smirking face.
Before she could react, he grabbed her arm and yanked her up. Panic surged through her as he started dragging her toward a white van parked just nearby.
"Let go of me!" she shrieked, struggling against his grip.
Her cry barely lasted a second before Gideon’s hand clamped over her mouth.
Eryx, still on the phone, froze at the sound of her muffled scream. His head turned sharply, and the moment he spotted her being dragged away, his blood ran cold.
Without hesitation, he bolted toward them.
"Let... Her... Go." His voice was low, furious, but Gideon barely had time to process the threat before Eryx’s fist collided with his jaw, sending him stumbling backward.
Gideon’s eyes widened in shock as he staggered back, clutching his jaw. When he looked up and saw who had just hit him, his face paled.
"M-Mr. Eryx Grantham..." he stuttered, his usual arrogance wavering.
Eryx stepped forward, his expression dark. "That’s right," he said coldly. "And you just made the worst mistake of your life."
Slowly standing up, Gideon waved his hands, "No, no Mr. Grantham. This is my daughter and this is supposed to be a family matter." He was still pale, coming up with an excuse.
Eryx let out a dry, humorless chuckle. "Family matter?" His gaze sharpened, his voice laced with quiet fury. "Then why did she scream?"
Lunara gripped the sleeve of Eryx’s coat, steadying herself. "No, I have no relationship with you," she said, her voice trembling but firm.
Gideon’s eyes narrowed as he looked at Lunara, who was trying to hide behind Eryx. "I am your father. No relationship?" he scoffed.
Eryx’s patience snapped. "A real father doesn’t treat his daughter like this," he said coldly. "She’s made it clear she wants nothing to do with you. Leave, before I make you."
Gideon clenched his fists, his expression started to get annoying. "I told you Mr. Grantham, this is a family matter. With due respect, I hope you can let me talk to my daughter."
Eryx didn’t move, his stance unwavering. "Respect?" he repeated, his voice edged with sarcasm. "You lost any right to that the moment you tried to force her into a van."
Lunara took a step closer to Eryx, her fingers still gripping his coat. "Hurry up, let’s go home," she pleaded, her voice trembling.
Eryx didn’t hesitate. He placed a firm yet gentle hand on her back, leading her toward the other side. His other hand reached for his phone, dialing the driver again. "Where are you? Just bring any damn car! Now!" he demanded, his voice sharp.
"Mr. Grantham, I believe you have crossed the line by interfering in my family matters." Gideon suddenly halted their steps by grabbing Lunara’s arm. "This is my daughter, and I have the right to take her home."
Eryx’s icy gaze landed on the hand gripping Lunara’s arm. His voice dropped to a dangerous whisper. "Move... your... hand."
But Gideon didn’t budge.
In a split second, Eryx grabbed Gideon’s wrist, twisting it sharply. A pained grunt escaped Gideon’s lips as Eryx leaned in, his face was too close. "And she is my wife. I have the right to protect her from people like you."
Gideon’s face twisted in discomfort as he struggled to free himself, but Eryx’s grip remained unyielding. "Mr—Mr. Grantham, let go..." He tapped Eryx’s hand in desperation. "I didn’t know my daughter was your wife."
Eryx let out an exasperated sigh, using his pinky finger to lazily rub his ear as if clearing out an annoying noise. "Daughter, daughter, daughter. You sure like saying that word," he muttered, unimpressed. His sharp gaze bore into Gideon. "Funny how when we met the other day, you never mentioned her."
Gideon hesitated, his lips pressing into a thin line. "I—I didn’t think it was necessary at the time."
Eryx’s smirk deepened. "Oh? So it wasn’t necessary then, but now you suddenly remember you have another daughter?" He scoffed and finally let go of Gideon’s wrist with a sharp flick. "Convenient."
Behind Eryx, Lunara trembled, trying her best not to meet Gideon’s gaze. Fear gripped her, making her body shake uncontrollably. She knew all too well how far Gideon was willing to go to get what he wanted. Desperately, she clung to Eryx, hoping this nightmare would pass quickly.
Gideon massaged his wrist, his expression twisting in frustration. "Because I thought you were interested in Eloise, that’s why I never mentioned her. But honestly, Mr. Grantham, I need to take her home. You don’t know anything about Lunara. She may seem innocent, pure even, but she’s not. Don’t let her fool you. She stole money, and now I’m the one who has to pay for it. So this time, I have no choice but to bring her back to settle the debt."
Eryx moved in an instant, grabbing Gideon by the collar and yanking him forward. His grip tightened around the man’s throat as he gritted his teeth. "By selling her?"
