My Cold-Hearted Husband Wants Me Back -
Chapter 30: Unexpected First Kiss
Chapter 30: Unexpected First Kiss
Naomi slowly closed the door to the room. They had been talking earlier, but with everything that had happened, Lunara must have been exhausted, it made she had fallen asleep mid-conversation.
Turning to head to the living room, Naomi nearly jumped out of her skin in shock.
"What the—" She bit her lip, blinking anxiously. "What are you doing here?"
Eryx crossed his arms, his gaze sharp with curiosity. "What are you doing here, Young Miss?"
"Ah, I was just looking for something. I thought I left it in this room." She forced a slightly awkward smile, still gripping the doorknob behind her back.
"Something of yours?" He narrowed his eyes. "That room is for the maids. Why would you leave something there?" Suspicion laced his words.
"Ah, I’ve been here a few times before, so I thought I might have left it behind," she quickly explained, finally stepping forward. "And what about you? It’s rare to see you here..."
"Have you seen Mila?" Eryx glanced around. He had been looking for her for a while now. Since his arrival, Mila had been sulking because he hadn’t had much time for her these past few days. To make it up to her, he had agreed to play hide-and-seek.
Naomi let out a small, relieved chuckle, nodding quickly. "Oh, Mila? She was just in the garden earlier," she said, hoping to shift his focus. "Are you playing hide and seek?"
He gave a light nod. "Maybe she’s hiding there," Naomi added casually.
Eryx glanced toward the garden but didn’t move right away. His sharp eyes flickered back to Naomi, studying her for a moment.
Naomi kept her smile, though her grip on the doorknob tightened slightly. "You know how she is, she loves making people look for her," she said, trying to sound casual.
After a beat of silence, Eryx finally turned. "I’ll check," he said, striding toward the garden without another word.
Naomi let out a quiet breath of relief, her posture relaxing. But just as she was about to step away, his voice came again, calm, but laced with something unreadable.
"You’re acting suspicious, Naomi."
She stiffened, looking up to find Eryx glancing at her over his shoulder. His gaze lingered for a moment before he finally disappeared down the hall.
Letting out a heavy exhale, she felt her legs grow weak. "Damn, I almost gave it away," she muttered under her breath.
Naomi quickly composed herself, glancing around to make sure no one else was watching. Just to be certain, she peeked inside the room one last time before slowly closing the door. Then, with careful steps, she turned and walked away.
Unbeknownst to her, Eryx hadn’t left. He stood just around the corner, hidden behind the wall, his sharp gaze locked onto Naomi’s every move. His suspicion deepened as he watched her hesitate before finally walking off.
Once she was out of sight, he stepped forward, his eyes narrowing at the closed door. Without hesitation, he reached for the doorknob and pushed it open.
The sight that greeted him made his expression soften. A quiet exhale left his lips as he took in the scene, Lunara, she was fast asleep on the small bed.
Relief washed over him. She was here. Safe. Instead of wandering the city with nowhere to go, she was under his roof. He stepped inside, his movements careful as if afraid to wake her. For a moment, he just stood there, watching the gentle rise and fall of her breathing.
Without realizing it, a faint smile ghosted across his lips. "Thank God."
But then, Lunara suddenly shifted in her sleep, making him panic. Reflexively, he jumped and dropped to the floor, biting his lip as pain shot through him from the impact.
Eryx stayed still, holding his breath as craned his neck a bit to watch her. She stirred slightly but didn’t wake up. Letting out a quiet sigh of relief, he pressed his hand against his forehead. He couldn’t believe he had just thrown himself onto the floor like that.
Slowly, he pushed himself up into a sitting position, his eyes never leaving Lunara. It was strange. He had gone through so much trouble searching for her, yet now that she was right in front of him, he wasn’t sure what to do. Should he wake her? Let her rest?
He leaned his back against the side of the bed, tilting his head slightly. "You’re really something, aren’t you?" he muttered under his breath, watching her sleep peacefully as if she hadn’t turned his whole world upside down. "Hmm..." He narrowed his eyes.
Eryx stared at her, his brows furrowing slightly. Was it really her?
The first time he saw her, she was drowning in baggy jeans and an oversized sweatshirt. Her short-cropped hair barely reached her ears, and the thick makeup she wore had made her look almost unrecognizable. The second time, on the day they registered their marriage, she had ditched the makeup but hid behind ridiculously big glasses, wearing the same shapeless clothes.
But now, lying there peacefully, she looked completely different. Her hair was longer, framing her delicate features naturally. Without the heavy makeup or oversized clothes, her beauty was undeniable, soft yet striking, the kind that made him momentarily forget to breathe.
Eryx leaned in slightly, his eyes narrowing as if trying to piece everything together. "So, you were hiding all along," he muttered under his breath, a smirk tugging at his lips.
Eryx found himself leaning in closer, his curiosity getting the best of him. His face was just inches away from hers, his breath steady as he studied her delicate features.
But just then, Lunara’s eyes fluttered open, still hazy from sleep, only to find Eryx’s face mere inches from hers. Her heart lurched in shock.
’Why was he here and why was he so close?!’
Startled, she gasped and instinctively tried to sit up, but in her panic, she miscalculated the distance between them. Before either of them could react, her lips crashed into his.
Eryx’s eyes widened in shock.
Lunara froze.
Silence filled the room.
