My Cold-Hearted Husband Wants Me Back -
Chapter 29: Taking Back Everything
Chapter 29: Taking Back Everything
Eloise’s eyes shimmered with excitement the moment she opened the door. Just moments ago, they were shocked by the news of Gideon’s arrest, and now, Eryx Cyrus Grantham was standing right in front of their house.
"Mom!" she shouted, waving her hands excitedly as she called for Mira. Then, turning back to Eryx, who stood coldly at the door, she cleared her throat. "Ahem... I didn’t know you would come here to find me."
Eryx immediately raised his hand, stopping her before she could say anything more. "I’m looking for Lunara," he said bluntly.
"Oh, what’s with her?" She blinked repeatedly, thinking she would look cute doing it.
Then Mira suddenly appeared from the hallway, surprised to see Eryx standing at their door. "Oh my, Mr. Grantham in our humble home?" she mused, a playful smile on her lips. "To what do we owe the honor?"
Eryx didn’t entertain the small talk. "Is Lunara here?"
Eloise perked up, her excitement still intact. "Why? Did something happen? Are you—"
Eryx raised a hand, again, cutting her off. "Just answer me."
Mira and Eloise exchanged glances before Mira shrugged. "She hasn’t been here."
Eryx studied their expressions, searching for any sign of a lie. "If she comes, let her know I’m looking for her." He turned.
Eloise quickly stepped forward, blocking Eryx’s way so he couldn’t leave. "Maybe a cup of tea, Mr. Grantham?"
Eryx looked at her sharply with the tip of his eyes, "I’m not here for your cup of tea–"
"Ah yes, yes, I get it," Eloise cut Eryx’s words, "You are looking for Lunara. What do you want with her? Don’t tell me she caused trouble and ran to you for help." She crossed her arms while smiling with her eyes waiting for an answer from Eryx.
Eryx didn’t answer. He simply gave Eloise a cold stare, his expression unreadable.
Eloise held his gaze for a moment before scoffing, rolling her eyes. "Tch. Fine, be that way." She flipped her hair over her shoulder. "But don’t come complaining to me when she ends up dragging you down."
Mira sighed, shaking her head. "If she’s smart, she won’t show her face here again."
Eryx’s gaze darkened at Mira’s words. He took a slow step forward, his presence alone enough to make the air feel heavier.
"What did you just say?" His voice was dangerously calm, his eyes locked onto Mira.
Mira hesitated for a split second but quickly straightened, masking her discomfort. "I said, if she’s smart, she won’t come back here. She knows she doesn’t belong."
Eloise smirked, adding, "She’s always been good at running away, after all."
Eryx let out a low chuckle, but there was no humor in it. "Is that so?" He tilted his head slightly, studying them like they were nothing more than nuisances in his way. Then, with slow precision, he adjusted his cufflinks, as if the conversation wasn’t even worth his time.
"Running away?" he finally said. "Are you sure she was the one who ran away, or was she chased out?"
Eloise’s smirk faltered. "What do you mean by that?"
Eryx gave her a sharp look before stepping back, his eyes drifting toward the bungalow. "This house... it doesn’t belong to you, does it?"
Mira’s frown deepened, an uneasy feeling settling in her chest. She didn’t like the chill in his voice. "Excuse me, Mr. Grantham, but this house belongs to my husband."
Eryx turned his gaze back to her, his expression unreadable. "And your husband... where did he get it?"
Mira stiffened, her grip tightening on the edge of her dress. "What kind of question is that? My husband bought this house with his hard-earned money."
Eryx let out a short, humorless laugh. "Hard-earned?" He glanced around, his gaze filled with quiet disdain. "Funny. Because from what I’ve found out, this house was never his to begin with."
Eloise’s expression twitched, but she quickly masked it with a scoff. "Oh, please. You think you can just walk in here and question our family’s property just because you’re interested in me?"
Eryx let out a sharp breath, amusement flickering in his cold gaze. "Says who?" He took a step closer, towering over her. "Me? Eryx Grantham, interested in you?" His voice dripped with disdain. "Who do you think you are?"
Eloise’s lips parted out of speechless, "W–well...didn’t you ask dad to bring me to your office because you are interested in me? I heard you are even willingly paying dad’s debt just because you took interest in me." She blinked profusely out of anxiety.
Eryx let out a cold chuckle, his patience thinning. "And where did you hear that nonsense?" His gaze bore into her, unimpressed. "If I wanted to clear someone’s debt, I wouldn’t need an excuse." He tilted his head slightly. "Tell me, Eloise, did your father tell you that? Or is this just another one of your delusions?"
Her lips parted again, trying to mutter at least a word of counter but then Eryx continued.
"Oh, maybe not. This whole family seems to be living in a dream, thinking everyone is interested in them and believing that everything that belongs to others is rightfully theirs." He snickered, then gave them side eyes before turning, "Callum, make sure you got back everything that does not belong to them."
"What are you trying to do?" Eloise tried to stop Eryx from leaving by holding onto his arm.
Snapping his hand right away, "Who gave you permission to land your dirty hand on me?"
Eloise stumbled back slightly, her face burning with embarrassment. "D-dirty hand? How dare you—"
Eryx dusted off his sleeve as if her touch had tainted him. His gaze, cold and unforgiving, met hers. "I don’t repeat myself," he said flatly. "Stay out of my way."
With that, he turned and walked away, not sparing them another glance, while Eloise stomped her feet in frustration behind him.
"Callum, let’s go home first," he said, slipping into the car and pinching the bridge of his nose. Everything that had happened today was starting to take a toll on him.
