My Cold-Hearted Husband Wants Me Back
Chapter 22: Marriage Status

Chapter 22: Marriage Status

"Interesting," Eryx murmured, a slow smile playing on his lips. His grip around her waist tightened as he rolled the window down slightly. "Callum, get in. Drive us home."

"No! No!" Lunara struggled, her voice rising in desperation. "What the hell do you want from me, Mr. Grantham? Haven’t I made myself clear?" Her eyes burned red with emotion. "I had nothing to do with your mother’s plans! I was drugged that night and I never intended to end up in your bed. So please, just let me go."

Lunara’s frustration swelled, her chest tightening as she fought the urge to cry.

"Okay," Eryx replied shortly, his curiosity about the woman in front of him only growing.

"So, can you please—" She tried to pull away again, but the sudden sound of the driver’s and passenger’s doors opening made her panic. "Mr. Grantham, your hand... let me go."

"Sir, are we head—" Callum’s words cut off as he turned his head toward the back seat. He stared for a few seconds before blinking and facing forward again. "Uncle, let’s go."

His voice was calm, but Lunara could feel the awkward tension in the air.

Eryx didn’t move, his grip still firm. He studied her for a moment longer before finally releasing her waist. "Fine."

Lunara wasted no time, scooting as far as possible to the edge of her seat. Her heart was pounding, and she wasn’t sure if it was from anger, fear, or something far more dangerous.

Callum cleared his throat. "Where to, sir?"

Eryx leaned back, his eyes still locked on her. "Home."

"No! I’m not going with you." She yanked the door handle, but it wouldn’t budge, of course it was locked.

Eryx simply crossed his arms, watching her calmly. "What are you so afraid of?" His eyes narrowed slightly when Lunara turned to face him. "My mother adores you. I’m just fulfilling her wish by bringing back her daughter-in-law."

Lunara’s lips pressed together, her mind racing. What could she even say? She couldn’t tell him the truth. She couldn’t tell him she was already—

"I’m married!" The words burst out, her voice high-pitched with desperation.

Silence filled the car.

Eryx’s gaze darkened as it dropped to her fingers. Slowly, he repeated, "You’re married?"

"Y–yes!" she stammered, grasping onto the lie. "So you don’t have to worry. I’ll tell your mother this isn’t happening. Rest assured, Mr. Grantham."

"Call your husband. Tell him to meet you at the courthouse, you’re getting a divorce." Eryx’s voice was calm, almost indifferent, as he shifted his gaze to the front.

"What?!" Lunara’s breath hitched, her frown deepening. She stared at him, completely caught off guard. "What do you mean, Mr. Grantham?"

Eryx didn’t even blink. "Am I not clear enough?"

Lunara let out a sharp scoff, still in disbelief. "Wow..." She ran a hand over her forehead, willing herself to stay calm. "Mr. Grantham, is it that easy for you? Getting married, then divorced, just like that?"

His cold gaze locked onto hers. "Well, since we’re getting married, you need to get divorced first."

Her breath hitched before she snapped, "And who the hell said I’m marrying you?!"

Eryx’s gaze flickered to her hands. "You’re lying, aren’t you? No ring, no sign of a husband." His low voice curled around her ears, sending a shiver down her spine. She barely had time to react before he reached for her hand, his fingers grazing over her bare skin, as if confirming it himself.

Snatching her hand back, Lunara shot him a glare. "That’s because my husband is a jerk!" The words tumbled out before she could stop them.

Eryx stilled. Then, ever so slowly, the corner of his lips lifted. "Oh?" His voice was dangerously smooth. "Then I suppose you won’t mind getting rid of him."

Lunara bit her lip, swallowing back the curse sitting at the tip of her tongue. "I don’t understand why you’re doing this, Mr. Grantham." Her voice was sharp, but laced with frustration. "I remember you telling me that night, you didn’t want to see my face again."

His jaw tightened, but the smirk didn’t fade. "Things change."

"Oh really? Then you might need to hold yourself for at least one day, you might change your mind again." She crossed her arms, her chin lifting mockingly. "Who knows? By tomorrow, you might decide you never want to see me again."

Eryx let out a low chuckle, leaning in just enough to make her breath hitch. "Uncle Dally, why aren’t you driving yet? Head straight to the courthouse."

"No, no, no! Don’t! I can’t get divorced!" Lunara shouted, making sure everyone in the car heard her.

Eryx tilted his head. "Why? Just call him and ask him to meet us at the courthouse."

Lunara gulped. "I don’t have my phone with me."

Eryx pulled out his phone and held it out to her. "Call him."

"What’s wrong with you?!" Lunara stomped her feet like a frustrated child. "I don’t want to marry you! And you... let me guess... you’re just doing this to get back at your mother, aren’t you? Well, I refuse to be your pawn again!"

The car suddenly moved, making Lunara panic. She leaned forward. "Sir, stop the car! I’m not going—stop the car, or I’ll report all of you for kidnapping!"

Eryx smirked, completely unfazed. "Well, go ahead. Since I’ve already kidnapped you, we might as well go all the way."

His words made Lunara snap her head toward him, shooting him a death glare. "Just answer me. Why... are... you... doing this?" She gritted her teeth in anger.

Eryx leaned back, a slow smile tugging at his lips. "I just need to figure something out. Why I can’t get you out of my head since that night. And to do that, I need to make sure you don’t run away."

Lunara shook her head, a disbelieving laugh slipping past her lips. "How many women have you fooled with this line? So... once you figure it out, do you get a divorce? Or just leave the woman hanging, unsure of her own marriage status?"
