My Cold-Hearted Husband Wants Me Back -
Chapter 201: Love Hate Relationship
Chapter 201: Love Hate Relationship
"Eat slowly," Lunara said, her voice softer now, watching the boy slurp up his noodle soup like he hadn’t eaten in days. Which, judging by the way his thin fingers gripped the chopsticks, might’ve been true.
The boy didn’t answer. He barely even looked up. Broth dribbled down his chin, and he used the too-long sleeve of his shirt to wipe it away before diving right back in.
Adam leaned back in his seat, arms crossed, a lazy smile tugging at his lips. "Looks like he thinks we’re running a charity."
"You tagged along," Eryx muttered without looking at him, poking at his own food with a measured calm that was clearly forced. "No one asked for your commentary."
Adam shrugged, undeterred. "And miss this happy little reunion? Not a chance."
Lunara rolled her eyes. She shifted her attention back to the boy, whose bowl was already half-empty. "What’s your name?" she asked again, gentler this time.
The boy paused. For a moment, it looked like he might pretend not to hear her again, but then, almost grudgingly, he muttered, "...Ren."
"Ren," she repeated, giving a small nod. "How old are you?"
He hesitated. "Twelve. I think."
Eryx looked up then, frowning. "You think?"
Ren didn’t answer. His eyes dropped back to his bowl.
The clatter of porcelain filled the silence, and for a while, that was all, just the sound of three adults watching a boy eat like he was trying to make up for a lifetime of hunger.
Eryx suddenly looked up, his gaze landing on Adam. It wasn’t sharp this time, not entirely. There was still tension in his posture, but something in his expression had softened, just a little.
"What have you been doing these days?" he asked quietly.
Adam raised an eyebrow, amused. "What’s this? Reminiscing? Trying to catch up after ghosting me for years?"
Eryx didn’t flinch. "I didn’t ghost you."
Adam let out a dry laugh. "Oh? Then what would you call it? One day we’re trying to keep the lights on, and the next you’re back in your family’s glass palace, playing CEO like nothing happened."
"I didn’t have a choice," Eryx said, voice steady. "Lucas—"
"Don’t," Adam cut him off sharply, eyes narrowing. "Don’t bring your brother into this like it excuses anything."
Eryx leaned back slightly, as if to stop himself from rising to the bait. "You think I wanted to go back to them? You think that’s where I wanted to be?"
"I think you chose what was easy," Adam said coldly. "I think when things got hard, you ran back to the people you always said you hated. And maybe... maybe that’s all I ever needed to know."
There was a beat of silence.
Then the boy let out a loud slurp, oblivious or maybe pretending to be.
Lunara glanced between the two men and muttered under her breath, "Should I leave both of you to talk?"
Eryx sighed, dragging a hand through his hair as he leaned back in his seat. "No, no need. Finish your food...you didn’t even get to eat at the last place."
He paused, his gaze flickering to the shirt she was wearing. "Is it uncomfortable?"
Lunara glanced down. The oversized shirt hung loosely on her frame. "No," she said, shaking her head. "It’s fine."
"Callum’s on his way to drop off a new one," Eryx murmured, reaching out to fix the top button near her collar. "Just wait a bit, okay?"
Adam watched the quiet exchange with a strange look in his eyes, thoughtful but a bit distant. When the moment passed, he leaned slightly toward Lunara, tone lighter now. "So... does he always act like this?"
She blinked at him. "Like what?"
Adam’s smirk widened, lazy and a little too knowing. "Like you’re made of glass, and he’s afraid you’ll break the moment he looks away."
"Does he?" Lunara tilted her head, looking at Eryx with a teasing smile. "Do you?"
"Ah, stop it. This is hurting my eyes. I didn’t tag along to watch this cringy little sweet romance," Adam said, visibly annoyed as he reached for his drink.
"And what do you want by tagging along?" Eryx asked calmly, reaching for Lunara’s hand under the table without breaking eye contact. His gaze shifted to Adam, cool and measured.
Adam leaned back in his seat, eyes narrowing. "I was thinking of taking revenge at first..." he paused, voice dropping. "But after watching you for a few months, I realized... you’re kind of pathetic."
Eryx didn’t react immediately. He let Adam’s words sit in the air for a second before replying, "So, what now? You’re switching targets?"
Adam’s eyes glinted. "I’ve decided to go after your grandmother instead."
Eryx stiffened. "Do you think you can take her on? Even after being pushed out of the Solterra Group, she still has power... and money. A lot of it."
Adam smirked, tapping his finger on the table. "Have you heard about that new company suddenly climbing the market charts the past few months?"
Eryx’s brow furrowed. "You mean—"
Adam’s grin widened, eyes sharp with purpose. "Yeah. That one."
Lunara blinked, glancing between the two men. "Wait. Are you saying... that’s yours?"
Adam raised his glass lazily. "Let’s just say... I’m not as pathetic as I used to be."
Eryx leaned forward slightly, his expression unreadable. "How?"
Adam didn’t answer right away. He took a slow sip from his drink, clearly enjoying the weight of Eryx’s curiosity. Then, he set the glass down with a quiet clink and said, "Do I look completely useless in your eyes?"
"I didn’t mean that..." Eryx rolled his eyes.
"I managed to convince my dad, you know...my dad is still hating on your grandmother, so yeah, he helped me although he was hesitating at first. That’s it, my father became my investor and I managed to slowly rise up the chart during those three years..."
Lunara sighed, "It’s great having rich parents right?"
"Ouch, I never knew that a soft face like yours could let out hurtful words." Adam’s words make the tense at the table slightly loose. "Now, the reason I tagged along, one of them is to warn you to beware of Seraphine."
"Seraphine?"
