Chapter 169: A Week Worth Of Sweet Romance

Lunara was flushed, giggling, and standing barefoot in front of the bathroom with one sleeve halfway off her shoulder when Eryx yanked the door open.

"Hot," she said, breathy and dramatic, tugging at her blouse. "Why’s it so hot in here?" She turned slowly, as if trying to solve the mystery herself.

He stared at her for a long second. "Lunara... hey, look at me. Are you sure you only drank wine earlier?"

She blinked up at him with wide, glassy eyes—the kind of innocent only someone clearly not sober could pull off. "Hmm? Half. Half the bottle." She held up her fingers to demonstrate, squinting to get it right.

Eryx muttered a curse under his breath and quickly reached for her hand, guiding her away. She stumbled, laughing softly, and squinted at the ceiling like it had started to spin. He eased her onto the couch, grabbed a blanket, and carefully draped it over her shoulders.

"This isn’t just wine," he said under his breath, crouching in front of her. "Lunara, did you... take anything earlier today?"

She furrowed her brows, thinking hard. "My head hurts... I think? Maybe I took something? Just a little pill. The white one. You know, the tiny one."

His jaw clenched. He didn’t wait.

Pulling out his phone, he scrolled through his contacts and pressed a familiar number. "Yeah, it’s me," he said when the doctor answered. "Same hotel. I don’t know what medication she took, but she drank half a bottle of wine after that. Yes... please come. Right now."

When he hung up, Lunara was lying on the couch with one arm flopped dramatically over her forehead like an old movie heroine.

"Why’re you so pretty when you’re mad?" she slurred, blinking up at him.

He sighed, running a hand through his hair. "You’re going to drive me insane. Don’t ever drink again."

Eryx crouched beside the couch once more, eyes fixed on her flushed face. For as long as he could remember, Lunara had never drunk in front of him before. And now... now she was doing everything at once. Laughing. Mumbling. Burning a hole through his chest without even knowing it.

Lunara shifted under the blanket, her hand pawing weakly at the fabric like she was trying to swat away a dream. Then her stomach gave a quiet growl.

"I’m hungry..." she mumbled, her voice small and almost childlike.

Eryx glanced at her, brows furrowed. "You didn’t eat today?"

She sniffled softly, still sprawled on the couch. "No. I was busy..."

"Doing what?"

Her eyes fluttered open, and with a dramatic sigh, she said, "Searching the whole city... for my husband." She blinked at him slowly, her tone both proud and pouty. "And no one helped me."

Eryx exhaled through his nose, fighting back the pinch in his chest.

Then she narrowed her eyes at him, squinting like she was trying to recognize a long-lost face. She pointed at his chest, eyes serious. "Hey... have you seen him?"

"Who?"

"My husband," she whispered, lips twitching into a soft pout. "Tall. Cold. Walks like he owns the earth. Stupidly handsome. A little mean but secretly soft." She paused. "Looks a lot like you, actually."

He swallowed, hard.

Lunara reached out and touched his cheek gently with her fingertips. "If you see him... tell him I missed him."

Eryx didn’t trust his voice just then. So he stayed still, letting her hand rest there, her thumb brushing absent circles near his jaw.

"I’ll make you something to eat," he finally said, voice low. "Just... stay here. Don’t move."

But Eryx had barely taken a few steps toward the kitchen when a soft thud echoed behind him.

He turned instantly.

There she was, Lunara, already on the floor, tangled hopelessly in the blanket, curled up like a chrysalis that had fallen off the branch. Only her nose and a tuft of messy hair peeked out from the folds.

"Seriously?" he muttered, walking back over. "You lasted five seconds."

She squinted up at him from inside the bundle, looking far too pleased with herself for someone who had just collapsed. "You said don’t move. Blanket moved, not me."

He ran a hand down his face, then crouched beside her, trying hard not to smile. "I’m going crazy like this. Why are you so cute?"

Eryx sighed, crouched beside the human-sized cocoon of blanket and mischief.

"Alright," he muttered, scooping her up again, "if I leave you for even one minute, you’ll end up tangled in the curtains."

Lunara hummed as he carried her toward the kitchen, her cheek resting against his shoulder. "You smell like... husband," she said dreamily.

Eryx didn’t even ask what that meant.

He gently placed her on one of the stools by the counter, adjusting the blanket around her like a shawl. She wobbled slightly but leaned her elbow on the counter, chin propped on her hand, blinking slowly like a sleepy cat.

"I’ll make you something to eat. No more falling down, okay?"

Lunara made an okay sign then scrunched her nose, "Okay."

Eryx turned to open the fridge, pulling out a few things, eggs, milk, some leftover rice. Something warm and easy. Behind him, he could still hear her little hums and sighs, like she was trying to stay awake just to watch him move around.

"Hmm..." She narrowed her eyes, trying to be serious but failing miserably. "What’s your name, mister?"

"Eryx," he replied without missing a beat.

Lunara arched her brows, looking surprised, "Oh? Why did you have the same name as my husband?"

Eryx stopped his movement then stood in front of her, leaning towards her face, "Because I am your husband..."

Lunara squinted at him, then reached up and poked his cheek. "You feel like him... but maybe you’re just a look-alike. My husband didn’t really smile like that."

Eryx huffed, brushing a stray hair away from her eyes. "Look properly."

She tilted her head, studying his face with exaggerated focus. "Hmm..."

"Recognize me now?" he asked, arching a brow.

"...Still undecided," she said, but her lips twitched.

He leaned in just a little. "Want me to bring your marriage certificate?"

That got a soft laugh from her. "You carry that around?"

"No, but I could frame it next to the stove if it helps you stay in one place."

She blinked slowly, resting her chin back on her palm. "You sound like him now. Bossy."

"And you’re hungry," he replied, turning back to the pan. "So sit still for five minutes."

Lunara yawned, cozy in the blanket. "Fine. But if I fall asleep, don’t switch me for another girl."

Eryx glanced back and muttered under his breath, "As if anyone could replace you."

She didn’t hear it because at that time, her eyes were already closed as she was too drowsy to stay awake for one more minute.
