My Cold-Hearted Husband Wants Me Back -
Chapter 149: Break The Record
Chapter 149: Break The Record
Callum stood near the entrance of the VIP terminal, where only authorized personnel were allowed. He straightened his posture the moment he saw Eryx and Lunara walking toward him.
"Sir," he greeted.
Eryx stopped in front of him, his expression unreadable as always.
"Lunara asked you to get your eyes checked," he said flatly. "She said you have bad eyesight."
Callum froze. "...Sorry, sir?"
Lunara laughed, stepping a little closer. She gave Eryx a light slap on the arm.
"Oh, he’s joking," she told Callum, still smiling. "Kind of."
Callum looked between the two of them, trying to hide his confusion. He’d never heard Eryx joke before. Ever.
Before he could say anything else, Eryx glanced around. A few staff nearby had already noticed them. "Are the press ready?"
Callum nodded once. "The press is already in position outside, just like you asked."
Eryx gave a curt nod. "Good."
Lunara looked up at him. "Are you sure?"
He tightened his hand around her, "Hmm. I actually think hiding you from the world is worse than exposing you. So, yeah, are you ready?"
Lunara smiled. "Yeah. Let’s do it."
Callum stepped ahead and opened the door.
The moment they stepped out, camera flashes exploded. Reporters shouted over each other.
"Mr. Grantham, are you confirming your wife’s identity today?"
"What about the Miss Sterling accusation last week—is it true?"
"There are reports your wife had a miscarriage last week. Can you comment?"
Lunara’s steps faltered for half a second, but his grip on her hand tightened. She looked up at him. He didn’t even glance her way, but his jaw had clenched.
"I will hold a press release in two days," Eryx said, voice steady but clipped. "And yes, I’m introducing my beautiful wife to all of you."
There was a brief silence, as if even the reporters weren’t expecting that level of directness.
He looked tense, maybe he hadn’t expected that question to be asked. Or maybe he was afraid Lunara would be affected and reminded about the baby that they just lost last week.
"She’s indeed beautiful, Mr. Grantham," one of the reporters broke the silence.
With that, the floodgates opened. Questions came at them from every direction.
"How did you meet?"
"Are there any other surprises we should know about?"
Eryx didn’t answer. He just kept walking, his hand never leaving Lunara’s. He could feel the tension in her, but she didn’t flinch. She was still by his side, unaffected outwardly.
Almost at their car, Eryx turned slightly. "And just a reminder to Valerie Sterling... show yourself. Hiding won’t help you." He suddenly winked, and everyone was surprised.
As they entered the car, Lunara stared at him. "What was with the wink? Are you trying to play cute now?" She pinched his cheek. "No! Who are you? Don’t wink at others. Don’t smile. Don’t smile."
Eryx simply smiled and winked again.
Lunara shuddered slightly, her hand on her arm. "Ugh, I have goosebumps. Stop that."
They both laughed, filling the car with their happiness.
As the car sped down the road, Callum gave a brief update on a business matter. "The merger is still on track, sir. We’re just waiting on the final signatures."
Eryx nodded, his focus more on Lunara than on Callum’s report. But just as Callum finished speaking, the car suddenly jerked to a stop.
Lunara was thrown forward, but before she could react, Eryx’s hand shot out, gripping her shoulder to steady her.
"Easy," he muttered, his eyes on her as she regained her balance.
Lunara blinked, surprised by the sudden movement, then looked up at him. "That was close."
Eryx gave a small, sharp nod but didn’t say anything more, his hand still resting lightly on her.
The driver quickly apologized. "Sorry, sir. A car cut us off."
Eryx waved it off. "It’s fine, uncle."
"Sir," Callum suddenly turned to the back.
"What?" Eryx looked toward the front, following Callum’s gaze. A car had stopped in front of them. A woman stepped out and widened her arms. "Come out, Eryx Cyrus!"
Valerie stood in front of the car, her face messy—probably because she hadn’t been able to do anything but hide from Eryx’s people.
Eryx smirked, a flicker of surprise crossing his face. He hadn’t expected her to show up herself after everything she’d done. "Well... it looks like she saved us some time."
Without another word, he opened the door and stepped out.
Lunara’s gaze followed him, her expression tightening. Valerie didn’t look harmful, not with her messy hair and tired face but something about the way she stood made Lunara uneasy.
She reached for the door handle, hesitated, then leaned slightly forward to see better. Eryx was walking toward Valerie, calm as ever, hands in his pockets like he had all the time in the world.
Callum turned to Lunara. "You should stay inside, Madam."
Lunara didn’t respond. Her eyes stayed on Eryx, her fingers curling slightly against her lap.
The moment Eryx stood in front of Valerie, she screamed in his face, "Why did you do this to me?!"
Eryx didn’t flinch. His expression didn’t shift. He tilted his head slightly. "Why? You’re asking me why?"
"You know I did this because of you! We were supposed to get married from the start! You broke the deal!"
"The deal?" His voice was quiet, too quiet. "Who made the deal?"
Valerie opened her mouth, but nothing came out. His tone alone was enough to stop her cold. For a second, she looked like she regretted showing up.
"I—I didn’t mean to push her," she stammered, stepping back instinctively.
Eryx’s hand shot up, wrapping around her neck, not tight, but firm enough to freeze her in place.
"I really, really don’t play harsh with women," he said, voice low and even. Then he leaned in closer, his face just inches from hers. "But you might be the one who broke the record."
And she knew then by the grip, he meant every single word.
