My Cold-Hearted Husband Wants Me Back
Chapter 148: Unspoken Words

Chapter 148: Unspoken Words

A week had passed. Lunara stared at the beach in front of her while taking a deep breath. She didn’t know what happened after the flight straight to Maldives that night, but all she knew was that Eryx hadn’t talked much this past week.

"Here, your orange juice." Eryx came, putting down a glass of orange juice on the round table beside her. "Are you sure you don’t want to eat yet?"

Lunara nodded, "I’m still full from the big breakfast earlier." She gave him a grin while rounding her hand around her tummy.

Eryx sat beside her in silence, watching the tide roll in and out like it had all the time in the world. For a moment, he said nothing.

She looked so peaceful. So unbothered by everything she had been dragged into because of him.

He let his fingers curl lightly against the edge of his chair, trying to hold back the gnawing question that hadn’t left him since they arrived.

’Did I do the right thing... bringing her into this mess?’

He glanced sideways at her, studying the soft curve of her smile, the way she rested one hand on her belly without even thinking about it. A lump caught in his throat.

"Have you ever regretted marrying me?"

The question slipped out quietly, carried by the breeze.

Lunara turned her head toward him, her expression calm. She tilted her chin down slightly, a soft, knowing smile forming on her lips.

"Is that what you’ve been thinking all this time?"

Eryx pressed his lips into a thin, straight line. "Hmm..." he nodded, then turned his gaze back to the beach, unable to meet her eyes.

"Correction!" she said, lifting a finger playfully before letting out a light chuckle. "I was forced to marry you two years ago, and forced to stay a few months ago."

She paused, noticing his serious expression. He didn’t smile. Her joke didn’t land.

"I guess I’m only good at forcing people," he muttered, his voice low and almost bitter.

Lunara’s laughter faded as she looked at him more closely, her voice softening.

"You really believed that, didn’t you?"

Eryx didn’t answer. He just stared out at the sea, his jaw tight.

"I wonder," she said after a pause, "if I hadn’t been forced to stay... would you have asked me to?"

That made him turn to her. His eyes met hers, raw and searching.

"Do you want to know a secret?" Lunara asked softly, lifting her hand in a small gesture for him to come closer.

Eryx raised his eyebrows, a flicker of anticipation in his eyes, and leaned in, offering his ear.

But instead, a kiss landed on his cheek.

"What was that for?" A small smile finally appeared on Eryx’s lips, and it made Lunara giggle.

"You know, that day two years ago... you were so damn handsome, I didn’t even notice you said my mom borrowed money from you a year before."

She paused, waiting for his reaction.

Eryx frowned, confused. "I don’t get it..."

Lunara tilted her head with a teasing smile. "I mean, how could my mom borrow money from you a year before... when she was already sick by then?"

Her voice was soft, but the meaning behind it was clear.

But Eryx still had a deep furrow in his brow. "Sorry—"

"I mean..." she interrupted gently, "before she fell into a coma, she was already sick and rarely even left the house. So the chance of her borrowing money from someone..."

She held up two fingers, pressing them tightly together. "...was this thin."

Eryx froze for a few seconds, blinking at her words.

Then suddenly, a laugh burst out of him, full and unexpected. "Both of us were fooled by my mom."

"I wasn’t. You were," Lunara stuck out her tongue.

"Yeah? Says the one who acted all sassy back then," Eryx smiled. "So basically... you agreed to marry me just because I was handsome?"

"No!" Lunara’s eyes widened. "I’m not that easy..."

Eryx leaned in slightly, his grin widening. "But you did think I was handsome."

She looked away, feigning offense. "That’s not the point."

He chuckled. "It kind of is."

Lunara glanced at him from the corner of her eye. "Fine. Maybe a little. But that doesn’t mean I liked you at the time. You know... girls tend to fall for things that are beautiful."

Eryx rested his chin on his hand, thoroughly amused. "Oh really?" His eyes sparkled. "But you do now?"

Lunara didn’t answer. She sipped her juice instead, her cheeks warming with a soft blush.

"But seriously, do I look that different that you couldn’t even recognize me?" Her expression shifted as she put the glass down, pouting. "Honestly, it was just a different hairstyle—"

"And that weird makeup you had on," Eryx interrupted.

"You and Callum both have terrible eyes," she huffed, narrowing her eyes and pouting even more.

He leaned closer and gently pinched her pouting lips. "You still haven’t answered me..."

"What?" she mumbled, her words muffled by his fingers still holding her lips.

"What about now?" he asked softly. "Don’t you like me?"

He paused, then slowly released her lips and let his hand drift to her cheek, caressing it with care.

"Do you find it hard... marrying me?"

Lunara looked at him, her eyes holding a mix of warmth and mischief. She didn’t answer right away. Instead, she leaned into his touch, her fingers brushing lightly over his wrist.

"I think," she said slowly, "I made it pretty obvious that I’m still here, didn’t I?"

Eryx’s lips parted slightly, as if to say something but her face was already close.

She rose on her toes and pressed a soft kiss to his lips, lingering just enough to quiet whatever doubts still lingered between them.

Then she pulled back with a whisper of a smile. "Now stop asking silly questions."

Eryx blinked after the kiss, his heart skipping more than just a beat. But he wasn’t about to let her off that easily.

"That’s not an answer," he said softly, tilting his head, the corners of his lips tugging into a knowing smile. "You just dodged the question again."

Lunara rolled her eyes with a grin and crossed her arms. "Do I need to say ’I love you’ just to express how I feel?"

"Yes," Eryx said without hesitation, leaning in again. "At least once."

Lunara laughed, her cheeks pink. "Then maybe I’ll save it for a more dramatic moment."

"Don’t tell me you’re into Titanic-style confessions..." Eryx narrowed his eyes in mock suspicion, the corners of his mouth twitching with amusement.

She leaned back in her seat, grinning. "What, you mean screaming ’I’m flying!’ on a boat while declaring undying love?"

He smirked. "Exactly that. Should I start practicing my lines?"

She nudged his arm with her elbow. "Please don’t. One wave and you’ll be the one flying into the water."

Eryx laughed, shaking his head. "Fine. No Titanic. But I’m still waiting for my answer."

She gave him a small, lingering smile, one that said more than words could. "I’ll prepare my best for a dramatic one," she said softly, pinching his cheek.
