My Cold-Hearted Husband Wants Me Back
Chapter 107: Naomi’s Grief

Chapter 107: Naomi’s Grief

"You better shut your mouth or I’ll sew it shut!" Naomi snarled, tightening her grip on Amara’s hair.

"Let go of me, you psycho!" Amara shrieked, clutching her scalp as the pain made her wince.

Lunara’s eyes widened at the fury on Naomi’s face. She quickly stood up. "Naomi..." she called gently, stepping toward her.

But Naomi didn’t stop. Her grip only tightened as Amara’s parents rushed in, trying to pry her off.

"She died! She died and all you care about is money?!" Naomi screamed, her voice breaking as tears streamed down her face. "How could you put a price on her life?!"

Amara wrenched herself free with a forceful tug, stumbling back as she smoothed her hair with trembling fingers. "She’s gone. What’s the point of screaming about it now?" she said flatly, her tone void of guilt. "It’s not like any of this will bring her back."

Naomi froze. Her eyes wide and her lips parted, as if struck by something colder than the grave beside them.

"Naomi..." Lunara stepped closer, her voice soft, almost shaky. She hadn’t really seen it until now, the dark circles under Naomi’s eyes, the stiffness in her posture, the silence that had lasted too long.

She had been grieving, yes. But Naomi... Naomi had been drowning.

"I should’ve been watching her," Naomi whispered, her hands falling helplessly to her sides. "I turned away for one second. Just one second..."

Lunara reached out, gently pulling Naomi into her arms. "It’s not your fault," she whispered. "You loved her. You did everything you could. I was so caught up in my own pain... I didn’t see how much you were hurting."

Naomi didn’t answer. She just held on tighter.

And for once, the cemetery was silent again.

Amara scoffed and cut the silence, stepping back with folded arms. "I didn’t say anything wrong, did I? You all act like I’m the villain just for telling the truth."

Regina’s eyes flashed, but Eryx raised a hand slightly. Not to defend Amara but to hold the fury in check. His eyes were locked on Naomi, her frame small and shaking in Lunara’s arms. The pain she carried was etched into her very posture.

Naomi was always the cheerful one. The one who smiled first, who cracked jokes to lighten the mood, who held everyone else together even when she was falling apart inside.

But today, all of that shattered.

Today, she snapped.

"It’s better if you all leave. Right now," Eryx said, his voice flat but final, his cold eyes locking onto them like steel.

Amara scowled, rubbing her scalp where Naomi had yanked her hair. "But Mr. Grantham, when will we get the mo—"

The word hadn’t even finished leaving her mouth when a sharp crack echoed through the cemetery.

Regina’s hand remained midair for a moment, trembling from the force of the slap. Amara staggered back, stunned, her cheek flaming red.

"You disgusting leech," Regina hissed, her eyes burning. "You dare talk about money again? At her funeral?"

Amara’s mother stepped forward, as if to protest, but Eryx raised a hand without even looking at her. The gesture alone was enough to silence her.

"We’re done here," he said coldly. "You lost the right to be part of her story today as you chose to abandon her. You won’t speak her name. You won’t ask for anything. And if you try..." He paused, voice dipping lower, deadlier. "There won’t be a second warning."

Amara opened her mouth, but this time, her father pulled her back by the arm.

Lunara watched them go, her chest rising and falling shakily. Then she turned, her eyes searching for Naomi.

Naomi stood still, her fists clenched, her breath ragged. Lunara walked up beside her, quietly reaching out.

"I shouldn’t have scolded her when she spilled the drink," Naomi whispered hoarsely. "I should’ve just left it. I should’ve kept my eyes on her."

Her voice cracked under the weight of guilt she’d been carrying alone. The memory haunted her, not just the moment Mila vanished, but everything leading up to it. The way Mila had looked back at her, the way she’d smiled, trusting and small.

"She was right there..." Naomi’s voice broke completely as her hand held out like she was trying to reach her. "And I let her disappear."

Lunara touched her arm gently. "Naomi, it wasn’t your fault."

"But I promised I’d look after her," Naomi cried, her eyes burning with frustration. "I promised you."

Lunara went silent, unsure of what to say. How could she console Naomi when, deep down, she couldn’t stop blaming herself either?

At that moment, Eryx broke the silence, his voice full of determination. "It wasn’t anyone’s fault. But I will find the people who took her, and when I do, they will pay for what they’ve done."

The grief they felt couldn’t reach Amara, who suddenly spoke up with a cold smile. "I will go back first, and Mr. Grantham, a deal is a deal. I hope you can send the money as soon as possible, or I might go viral about you as a businessman breaking a promise."

Regina, standing off to the side, gasped in anger. "Ah, this woman is really testing my patience."

Eryx stepped forward, his eyes cold and unwavering. He raised a hand, silencing Regina, and then turned to face Amara. His voice dropped, each word laced with icy authority. "You think threatening me will get you what you want?"

Amara’s smile faltered, but she held her ground. "I’m just asking for what’s owed to me."

Eryx’s lips curled into a slight, chilling smile. "Here’s the thing, Amara. You’re lucky you’re even getting a cent. The deal was clear, and you’ve done nothing to deserve the full payment. But if you think you can blackmail me and get away with it, you’ve made a grave mistake."

Amara’s eyes narrowed, but she said nothing, clearly weighing her next move.

"I’ll tell you what," Eryx continued, his tone cutting through the tension. "Not only will I not send you a single penny, but if you continue to make threats, I’ll make sure your name is the one going viral. Everyone will know what kind of person you really are." He leaned in slightly, his presence towering over her. "You’ll be the one who regrets trying to play me."
