My CEO Boss Is A Masked Internet Sensation
Chapter 240: His Ascension

Chapter 240: His Ascension

(Karsten)

I stood on the precipice of disbelief. I thought I could keep her safe, but my powers had turned out limited, and this world, too cruel.

From the moment Asbela had shown me those masks, I knew the stalker was going to pin the kidnapping of Arata on me.

He had planted one piece of evidence; I wasn’t sure if he had planted more. So I had Olphi scan the whole house and get rid of anything that might implicate me.

Arata’s behaviour made sense too. The stalker was feeding her lies, creating doubts in her heart. Although some of the things he had told her were true, that contributed to her developing this strong distrust for me.

I could never forget the look she had given me at our last meeting.

The mistrust in her eyes and that disappointment and fear...

So I immediately left Marica City with Ma and arrived in Sparia. I informed Caysir to use Ranold’s car and take his help where needed, knowing the police would soon confiscate everything in my name.

I also turned off my original number for now and got a temporary number to use.

Arata’s family had more enemies than I did and combing through their past revealed they had even brought down a Mafia family.

Not an ordinary Mafia family but one of the most prominent in Angel City, who lost power and crawled their way into my lands—Sparia; Urisa’s family.

The crimes her grandfather had committed, sickened me.

Assaulting and raping a child. That’s what he had done to Arata’s father. This mess needed to be cleaned and my first course of action was going to be getting rid of their family.

I had always doubted Urisa but it was becoming very apparent that she had a hand in Arata’s kidnapping.

I tried to reach her, but she had switched off her phone, and I couldn’t get in contact.

I needed to speak with her family and find out where she was. Contacting my IT guy, I told him to trace her phone.

We still hadn’t been able to trace Arata’s phone. It seemed to have just stopped existing. We could only guess her kidnapper was somehow cloaking the phone and if Urisa was involved, he must be cloaking hers too.

Staring out the window of my room, I was ready to ascend to the position of Mafia Lord. That was the only way to keep her safe.

People would think twice before messing with her once they knew she had my backing.

I ran a frustrated hand on my stubbled chin.

Smoke, I needed a fucking smoke to calm my nerves but somehow I couldn’t bring myself to. Every time I thought of smoking one, Arata’s face would flash in my mind, and the urge would just die.

I heard the door open behind me and someone stepped inside.

"Are you ready?" Rahsir’s voice brought me back to my current situation.

Slowly, I turned to watch my younger brother, and on the rarest of occasions, he had no phone in his hand or a sarcastic smile on his face.

"Does it matter? It is what it is." My voice lacked enthusiasm. It was plain dead.

Slowly he walked over and stood beside me. We hardly ever held conversations; unlike Roshra, he didn’t fancy having a brother.

Truth be spoken, I never really cared for him either. He just existed and I bore it because of my mother.

"I think you are what this position needs. Believe it or not but you possess attributes of being just and level-headed. Possessing a rational mind who can actually make tough decisions is what we all need."

I didn’t expect such words from him.

"Going soft on me brother," I asked, eyeing him suspiciously.

He merely shrugged his shoulders.

"Just stating the truth. And I am sorry about what you are going through." He cast me a look like the one a brother gives when he wants to say, ’I care for you, big brother, without saying it.’

He continued, "Ma filled me in and I know Arata’s father is the one who put that fucking rapist behind bars. I have nothing but respect for Arata and her family. I am going to help you find her at every cost."

Not even in my wildest dreams had I expected to hear such words from Rahsir.

I offered him an acknowledging nod.

"I appreciate it, little brother."

"Let’s go make you the Lord so we can all bow to you and then we will rescue your girlfriend," he sarcastically said and I had to shake my head.

We left the room and headed to the place of my ascension.

Only men were allowed there. The underground hall was vast with gold lights embedded in the ceiling.

A throne fit for a king sat at the end of the room.

What was the point of it? I had no clue.

A table had been set up in the centre of the space with a silver chalice, a dagger, a book and a ring.

Hundreds of men, who were going to be on my beck and call perfectly lined themselves on one side of the room. They included highly trained assassins, spies, hackers and even policemen.

They were all going to be my men.

Elders stood behind the table wearing silverish-grey cloaks. The elders of Sparia, who formed the rules, kept the peace and were unannounced rulers of this place.

I had to act as their enforcer of laws, peace and balance. But most importantly, their executioner. Ending the lives of any who would dare threaten them or Sparia, without asking questions.

I wasn’t going to be a blind follower, though; I was only doing this to gain the power needed to rescue her and keep her safe.

"Karsten Toledo, please step forward and extend your right hand," one of the elders announced, making me step ahead. Rahsir took his position at the side.

"Where is your Queen? You should have been married according to the rules," he said with a hint of disappointment. "We are making an exception."

"She was taken from me and I need to get her back." There was going to be no other woman for me besides Arata. And if it took years to win her affection back I would.

The Elders gave me a collective nod.

"The very first task after your Ascension will be to rescue your woman. We don’t have time to waste."

The Elder took my hand in his wise one, grabbed the knife from the table and slashed open my palm.

The pain radiated through me but I didn’t even cringe.

The ’Book of Wisdom’ was open in front of me and I placed my hand on the designated page. Printing it with my blood. I was the 27th Mafia Lord.

The Elder then extended the chalice towards me.

"Drink and join the ranks of your forefathers, may you rule wisely."

I quietly accepted the chalice and took a small sip. The silence prevailed, even with so many people present. Only their sharp gazes watched me.

After the drink, the ring with the insignia of the Fujic Serpent was made to decorate the middle finger of my right hand.

The status of Mafia Lord.

"Now, take off your shirt so we can give you tattoos representing your duties to Sparia."

Unbuttoning my shirt I threw it open and took it off. Two well-built men guided me towards the throne and helped me settle on it while a tattoo artist made his way towards me.

After a few hours, I rose from the throne a different man. A man who was now the Mafia Lord of Sparia and had no control over his life.

"All hail, the Mafia Lord. May you reign justly."

The final announcement was made before everyone stepped up one by one to kiss the ring on my hand and pledge their allegiance to me.
