Chapter 162 Reluctant

Chapter 162: Chapter 162 Reluctant

She suddenly panicked, even more unwilling to extend her hand. The blackened thing in front of her was just like a branding iron that would burn.

He unlocked the phone himself, fiddled with the settings a bit, then grabbed her finger and pressed it on the HOME button.

Tu Hengsha watched as the gray fingerprint on the screen was gradually filled with red from various angles.

From then on, his phone contained her mark.

It was like obtaining a key to unlock the door to a treasure, revealing a new world.

She was momentarily dazed. Where was this fingerprint pressed? On the phone, or on the heart?

"Open it," he said.

What he showed her was his WeChat messages, familiar and unfamiliar names flashing brightly, burning her eyes. She didn’t want to look, but still couldn’t help glancing.

Among them was Su Rongxing, the one most catching her eye.

"I told you to look, so look," he said, opening the conversation with Su Rongxing and scrolling to the message "Su Ronggui, I miss you."

It was this message that left her heart thoroughly chilled on the night she returned home.

"I don’t want to look," she said, her voice slightly choked, her nose already tingling with sourness.

Suddenly, warmth enveloped her as he wrapped her entirely from behind. The screen of his phone was right below her eyes; his dialogue with Su Rongxing forcibly intruding into her vision.

Su Ronggui, I miss you.

Rongxing, we agreed not to do this.

But I just miss you.

After this, Su Ronggui did not reply. Su Rongxing sent a series of messages like "I miss you" and "Su Ronggui, come home." After he didn’t reply, he sent, "Su Ronggui, I won’t do this anymore. Please don’t ignore me. I’ll call you brother, brother, second brother, don’t ignore me, come back and see, will you? Mom misses you too."

Only after this did Su Ronggui reply, "As a brother, I will return."

The subsequent dialogue went, "Su Ronggui, then give me a gift."

"What?"

"I like this." It was accompanied by a picture of the watch Su Rongxing had flaunted at the newspaper.

"Scroll further ahead," he whispered in her ear.

She still didn’t respond to him.

He had no choice but to operate himself, lines of text sliding past Tu Hengsha’s eyes, until one sentence caught her attention, making her eyes tighten and her body tremble.

"Where do you want to look?" he asked. "Here?"

His elegant fingertip slid over the screen, stopping on Su Rongxing’s message: "Su Ronggui, I want to tell you a secret." The timestamp was eight days ago, the day Su Rongxing asked him to make a choice.

The secret Su Rongxing disclosed was, "Su Ronggui, I like you, not with a sister’s affection."

And Su Ronggui’s reply was, "That’s not allowed."

What followed was naturally Su Rongxing’s tantrums, but he didn’t reply further. She couldn’t help but hum twice, thinking even though there weren’t replies on the phone, they must have talked privately, right?

She suddenly felt a slight pain on her face, realizing he was pinching her cheek!

"What’re the hums for?" he asked.

"Hums," she hummed, continuing to read. After having seen so much, she wouldn’t be pretentious now! She decided to scroll through herself!

Further down was a message from Su Rongxing, "If I hadn’t held onto you and stopped you from leaving, would you have chosen to leave with Tu Hengsha?"

His reply was surprisingly just one word: "Yes."

Her fingertip froze there, motionless. Just one word, but it exploded like thunder in her mind, like tidal waves crashing, the earth shaking, mountains quaking, none sufficient to describe her current turmoil.

The wind brushed past her fingertips and forehead, causing her bangs to dance disorderly in the wind. She suddenly recalled the little girl who used a small hairpin to clip her bangs, not knowing why she relentlessly chased after the older brother who never paid her any mind, nor why she could never forget that round-faced little boy.

At this moment, a voice deep inside answered like a torrent: maybe it was destiny. Destiny, like the wind passing through the seasons, would eventually return to spring; like the leaves, traveling across the sky, would still fall onto the soil.

Su Rongxing’s curses came, and the name Tu Hengsha was mixed with the vilest words.

She lost the urge to read further, pressing return, but inadvertently saw Hao Ren’s name and a few medicine-related terms she was familiar with.

She opened it, her vision finally blurring.

His chat with Hao Ren consisted of a lengthy discussion of asthma medication contraindications and drug names, with dosage written clearly.

She knocked his phone away, unwilling to look anymore, wrapped her arms around her knees, letting the uncontrollable roaring inside her heart continue.

"What are you thinking?" he asked, putting away the phone, slightly dimming the light.

"Why agree to the check-up?" Even though her heart was tumultuous, her tone remained calm, with great effort to keep her voice from trembling.

He was silent for a while. "Why do you want the check-up?"

She also fell silent.

He suddenly bent down, picked up a few early-fallen leaves, handed one to her, "Let’s write our reasons on the leaves and exchange them. I’ll write first."

He pulled out a pen, scribbled a few words on the leaf in the dim light, then handed the pen to her.

She thought it over, then accepted it, glancing back at him, seeing his bright eyes fixed on her. She wrinkled her nose, moved out of his embrace, turned away, and earnestly wrote a line, "Reluctant for you to lose your pride."

When exchanging leaves, she hesitated; holding the leaf gingerly, unwilling to decisively give it, knowing that once given, everything would be laid bare, no more secrets, no retreat.

"Give it to me, be good," he said, gently pulling the leaf into his hand, while handing his own to her.

"I’ll look first." She suddenly pressed his hand down, forbidding him from reading her leaf.

He smiled slightly. "Okay, you look first."

Even though there was an answer in her heart, nervousness still lingered. If... if the words on the leaf weren’t what she wanted to see, she’d snatch hers back!

She hesitated, slowly unfolding her fingers, the words on the leaf dim under the moonlight, yet clear enough for her to read: "Reluctant for you to suffer."

Tears finally rushed into her eyes...

"Can I look now?" he asked.

"Mmm..." She cautiously covered his leaf with her hand, hearing the choke in her own voice.

He didn’t look, but just tucked the leaf into his shirt pocket, against his chest.

She was puzzled why he didn’t read, staring at him curiously.

He pressed his hand against the shirt pocket. "I don’t need to look. I know what it says." He pressed firmly, "I can feel it here."

She gazed at his hand placed over his chest in the darkness, dazed.

He pinched her nose, "Being silly again?"

She snapped back to reality, "I... I regret it! I want to rewrite it! Give it back to me." She reached to grab.
