Chapter 61: WHAT IS YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH DOVE?

"No need to leave, Calix. Whatever I am going to say is, I am sure you know about it just the same as what Dante himself knows."

Hearing Senior Sterling say that, both the men went quiet for a moment before Calix sat back down. They too suddenly had a change of demeanor, as it turned into more serious.

Senior Sterling kept his unyielding gaze on them both specially, Dante, and he said, "It is about, Dove. And her son." And he went quiet again.

Hearing him, now Dante’s heartbeat caught pace, and his face paled slightly, while looking at Senior Sterling, waiting for him to speak. Meanwhile, Senior Sterling observed Dante for a while, before he leaned forward. And he said, "You both must have known my granddaughter Dove, which I know you do very well. So, let me get straight to the point."

Dante did not know why but right know his heart was beating so fast as if it would jump out of the ribcage. Growing up, and receiving power, Dante had eventually stopped fearing anyone. He would just be himself, with a ’will see’ attitude. But right now, maybe he could relate how an innocent rabbit would feel in front of a tiger.

"Y- Yes? Grandpa? W- what do you mean?" Dante stammered unknowingly. To which, senior Sterling nodded and asked, "Dante, tell me, what is your relationship with Dove?"

"..."

"..." Both Dantre and Calix, froze. processing what Senior Sterling said. But still not knowing how to react. Because no, he did not imagine Senior Sterling asking them such question. But Senior Sterling was not done. He said more, "And Dante, don’t try to hide anything from me. Because I know that you can tell that lying to me would be a waste. What kind of relationship do you share with Dove?" Senior Sterling took a break, looking at Dante as he gulped the nervousness that was tied in his throat.

"Her son, is he..." Senior Sterling spoke this very carefully while raising this topic gently, "yours?"

And at that moment, Dante’s breathing almost stopped. It got stuck in his throat. W- WHAT?!

And not just Dante, Calix himself felt all the nerves in his body getting hyper, as his eyes widened like sausages. W- WHAT?!

The room has a stiffening silence for God knew how long. As the three of them just looked at each other, no one saying anything but staring at each other.

"Gavi, he is your son, isn’t he? And I am sure, you know very well what I am taking about." Senior Sterling spoke again. And then he assessed Dante with stern eyes.

The latter then slowly averted his eyes as he lowered his head down, before slowly nodding his head, "Y- Yes granddaughter." He did not know how he found his voice honestly.

Clearing the painful lump in his throat, he spoke, "The relationship that Dove and I have between us is very complicated. But the only one that I can name is that, she is the mother of my son."

"..." the room was filled with silence. So silent that someone, if they dropped even a drop of water, it would sound deafening.

Dante cleared his throat again, his nose prickling hurtfully, and he said, "But that is only what I can tell. What I can name our relationship as. But in reality it is much more than that."

Dante did not raise his head, and spoke all of that with his head lowered. But if anyone were to see they wouldn’t believe, of they saw his pupils shaking with a thousands of emotions swirling in his eyes.

"Dove, she is my obsession. She is someone, I could dedicate every single breath of mine. She is whom I want from every single fibre of my being. And that has nothing to do with her being my child’s mother. I wanted her even before she knew she was pregnant." Dante paused for a moment. He still did not raise his head.

While, Senior Sterling did not show any expression on his other other than having a grim look on his face as he listened to him. Today was the day, that he would know every truth, and he would discover the answers to all his doubts and questions that he had in his mind.

Initially, Senior Sterling had a very strong doubt in his head that Dante was involved with Dove. After all, Dove had take the name ’Dante’, when he has asked her who the man she liked was. And then, even after putting some of his source, he could not find everything about Dante, but he placed some dots together.

Moreover, he had noticed the brief interaction between Dove and Dante four years ago. But Dove after that day, never for once did she even mention Dante’s name again. If worst came she would tell people that her child’s father was there, and he would come.

And nor Senior Sterling to ask her about any day again.

But things started getting more cleared when Gavriel was born, and when he started growing up little by little. Senior Sterling might not have seen Dante when he was a toddler or of Gavriel’s age. But he knew and had been seeing Dante grow up since he was five years old.

And now Senir Sterling knew without even Dante accepting it, that Gavriel was his son. The resemblance between them were undoubtable. Gavriel exactly looks like how Dante used to look when he was young.

But today, he wanted to confront. He was to know the answers.

Dante then kept silent before speaking again, "But all those, it is just from my side, grandpa." And hearing this, Senior Sterling raised an eyebrow and Dante spoke, "She, she doesn’t even know me. She doesn’t even know I exist. She doesn’t even know my name. She doesn’t even know how crazy and in love I am with her. She..." dante tariled before he look a deep breath and said, "She doesn’t even know that the father of her son is me."

Calix, who was sitting quietly beside him, he felt his own heart pace increase. No, he wasn’t even involved in any of it. Yet, he was. He should not be facing any consequences of snything of something about it went right or wrong. Yet, he felt like he would. He was feeling for his Boss! Only Calix himself knew how badly he was praying to the Lord in the high heavens for his Boss! Even them being in a life and death situation for the uncountable time had not fazed the both of them like how it was doing now.

"Then how...?" Senior Sterling murmured.

And Dante understanding what he meant to ask, he said, "That night... everything about it was an accident. Neither of us had remembered what had happened that night, nor each other. If not for me checking on to that mysterious girl, I wouldn’t have come to know that, that girl was Dove. And perhaps even Dove might have tried to find abou6t me but she couldn’t because we erased the evidences for security reasons, even before anything."

Dante sighed again, as he gave a short summary about what had happened that night. And as he didn’t right remember, calix said some of it. And then Dante raised his head a little, and caught the same grim expression on Senior Sterling’s face. He feared that he would think that these whole four years, he had not approached Dove and his son, despite knowing everything. Dante feared that Senior Sterling would see him as a man who refused to take responsibility and at once said, "Grandpa, I wanted to approach Dove the very day, I knew. The day I saw Dove’s face clearly when I came to meet you." Dante paused for a second more, even gulping again, as thinking about it, weighted on his heart.

"But she might not have shown it, but she wasn’t in the right state of her mind. She was very weak from inside. She needed time. And therefore, I gave her a couple weeks time, so that she copes up with whatever was going on in her mind. Calms down and then approach her. But the very time I thought about doing it, my dad was attacked. Our own personal security, professional and personal worlds were eyed and attacked. And it was also the same time we all found out that Dove was pregnant.
