Chapter 55: WE ONLY CARE ABOUT YOU

Senior Sterling looked at the people around him with his old and tired gaze. At this point of his life, these were the people who he wanted to see the least now. Yet, he also knew that he had to deal with them, and he had no other options.

It was like, you don’t like it, yet you can’t avoid it.

Simon Sterling knew that his health wouldn’t carry him for much longer. And till the inevitable happens, he need to put some things in place.

"Senior Sterling, how are you? I hope you get done soon, and be with us happily for a few more years." One of the man around him, stepped in front with a cheesy smile on his face.

Senior Sterling looked at the middle aged man, who said that, with no difference in his face. Oh how well did Senior Sterling knew how fake that words were, that he just now uttered.

"It is good to know that you care," *cough* *cough* Senior Sterling said, but what followed his words were coughs.

Jacob Sterling, Simon Sterling’s nephew smirked subtly, looking at the old man who looked like he was dying, cough his heart out.

He then doned a concerned look and said, "Oh- Uncle Simon, are you okay?"

His son, Noren smirked before he stepped forward to them and said, "Grandpa, let me pour a glass of water for you." He said before pouring a glass of water from the jug, before giving it to him.

Senior Sterling who stabilised his coughs, looked at the glass of water stretched towards him, by his nephew’s son. And he looked up to his face and saw his lips stretched into a smile, that Senior Sterling felt sickening from deep within his heart.

Turning sideways, where the Butler was standing, he coughed again lightly before saying, "Please get me some water."

The Butler glanced at the father and son, before quickly looking at the other family members of the duo, who carried displeased look on their faces, and he nodded his head, "Yes, Old master."

And he poured water in another cup before giving it to Senior Sterling, who took it before drinking.

At this attitude of Senior Sterling, the smile on Noren and Jacob’s face flattered, which they kept up forcefully and sarcastically. And Noren said, "Grandfather, even I offered you water out of concern. Yet you did not take it. Do you doubt our intentions, or are you just trying to humiliate us after our family is here to see you."

Senior Sterling drank the water before passing the glass back to the butler, and he wiped his lips with a towel, before looking back at them.

And then he opened his mouth to speak, "It is ’Senior Sterling’ for you. I think we have long drawn a line there. Learn to respect boundaries, young man. I don’t think we ever becoming so close where I allow you to call me grandfather.

I am your late grandfather’s brother. But I still don’t allow you to come and call me that all of a sudden. Stick to whatever you have called me all these years."

Even that forced smile to froze on Noren’s face for a moment, and he internally gritted his teeth. This old man! Even in his death bed he has such a sickening mouth! I should have just kept that cold distance that I kept forever, instead of coming here and trying to sprewing good words to his man.

But he still held a faint smile, which now with those thoughts going on in his mind looked ugly.

But Senior Sterling did not seem to be done there. He smirked and commented, "And on top of that, I do indeed fear your intentions. After all, when have you ever shown concern for me? So, do not blame me if I see you concerned over me in my death bed. I would naturally have an idea that you are here to kill me sooner than my intended time. Who knows?" The second branch of Sterling family’s face went blank before it darkened and they looked at Senior Sterling in a displeased manner. \

But it wasn’t as if Senior Sterling cared about any of those. Even Jacob’s daughter and wife pursed their lips in displeasure and passed glares towards Senior Sterling. But well, they had to keep their lips shut. It wasn’t like they were allowed to speak their, when ever Jacob couldn’t speak in front of Senior Sterling.

In their minds, they were cursing Senior Sterling, what so ever.

This oldie is about to die, but just look at that sharp mouth! Why don’t he just take good things thrown his way!

But Senior Sterling wasn’t desperate for their ’good behaviour’ towards him.

But just then, Noah, who was standing at the side, chuckled. He couldn’t hold up his laughter at Senior Sterling’s unapologetic manner of words. But then he soon,. Shut his mouth off, when all the glares got directed towards him. And cleared his throat.

"And lastly," Oh, Senior Sterling wasn’t done there. "Talking about me insulting you after you all came over? Then tell me something, have I called any of you over? Or have I invited any of you over at my place. You all are uninvited guests there, and I am merely treating you like how I deem it right. Not to mention, I have grown very old, and I can not act of liking people that I don’t anymore."

At this stage, Jacob’s wife, Hena and daughter, Sofia, couldn’t stay there any longer. Jacob and Noren can have a thick skin and stay here, and listen to Senior Sterling’s blatant and unhidden tauntings, but they could not hold on staying there any longer. Taking a deep breath, Hena was the one to say, "Senior Sterling, "It is goo to see that your health is doing good. But I and Sofia have to go now. We have some important errands to run."

Senior Sterling looked at them, and smile. And he waved his hand saying, "Of course, of course. You are more welcome to leave. You all did not ask me before coming. At least the women of the second branch have the decency to ask before leaving. How respectful."

Hena and Sofia turned their palms into fists, clearly pissed by the comments that this old dying man was throwing their way. But the forced a smile on their lips, and left. But not before passing a glare at Jacob and Noren.

Even the other two had a big frown marred on their foreheads. Especially, Jacob. After all, everyone is the rest of the family branches, as well as the company knew that there wasn’t much liking between the first branch, that is of Simon Sterling’s and the second branch. And it had always been there, but especially for the last couple of years it had increased after Dove’s father’s death. After Simon’s son died everyone naturally thought, that since he did not have any male heir and Noah was adopted, who had also cut his name out of the family registry, every one thought that, the company and the responsibility would now go to the second branch of the family.

But everyone turned to be wrong. Because apparently, Simon’s son had already made a will. And according to his will, the owner of ninety five percent of his shares will go to his daughter if he had any accidents, or sudden mishap. But as Dove was still a minor at that time, she would have to wait until she turned of legal age to take over the company.

At that time, Senior Sterling, despite his age, had volunteered to look over the company, till Dove was ready to take it over.

And as it was because it was Senior Sterling that the other shareholders, Directors, and investors also did not have any problem with it. And it is also a reason why Senior Sterling had sent Dove abroad to look over the international branch, despite knowing that their were issues going on over there. So that she would be ready to face even bigger challenges when she took this over here.

He knew that the timing was off, specially when she was pregnant and all, when it wouldn’t be better than this. She got away from the judgement eyes and taunts of here. Though, she would still het them there. But atleast people did not know her there, and it would be lesser there. She would complete her studies, and well as look over the company. And Dove did not disappoint him.
