Chapter 156: CAN I JOIN?

Chapter 156: CAN I JOIN?

"Then I don’t mind."

Dove looked at him dumbly for a moment, before she averted her eyes quickly feeling a little flustered. What was that? What did he mean by that? Dove thought. And her heart, it was again there racing for no reasons.

She looked at him from the corner of her eyes to find him sitting there casually like he does, and he was answering to something that Senior Sterling asked him. While, she had her head lowered, having a thousand thoughts going around her head. But then Dove lightly shook her head and she said to herself. ’I am just thinking a lot too much.’

After a while, when they finished the dinner, the servants cleared the table. And the family continued sitting on the table for a while, talking and gossiping about different things happening around in the world.

And as the night deepened a little more, one by one left to retire for the night. The set up on the garden was cleared up, and everything was back to how it was. But Dante remained back in the garden. He had a couple of phone calls to make and attend about work. And Calix too had to report him about work. And now it was done. He sat in one of the benches looking up at the sky. The sky was clear today, and the stars were clearly visible, looking beautiful. Soft night breeze was blowing, softly ruffling his hairs. The atmosphere was beautiful enough to calm one’s inner tranquil.

And currently, Dante’s mind and heart was clear and some what at peace.

Then he heard a faint noise from the side, and turning his head he saw Dove come and stand there. They spoke nothing and stared at each other for a couple of seconds, before Dove said, "Can I join you, Mr Lancaster?" Dante who had a smile on his face, happy to see her here. And even more happy to have her ask to sit next to him. But his smile flattered when he heard her call him so formally again. Averting his gaze, her said sulkily, "If you are going to keep calling me that, then no, Miss Sterling. It is not very professional to hang out with people at this time whom you are not on first name basis yet." And he huffed lightly. Dante did not one bit like when Dove called him Mr Lancaster. It felt as if they were back at square one.

But all he heard was Dove chuckling, before she came and sat beside him nonetheless, and said with a playful giggle, "I am sorry, Dante. I just sometimes like to call you by your surname. It sounds nice."

And on hearing that, Dante blinked before he turned towards her and asked, "You like my surname?" and now hearing this question, it was Dove who blinked. That was not what she said. But anyway, she nodded her head after a second’s thought and said, "Your surname sounds good. I don’t know how to say but strong and royal type."

Dante nodded at her words, before he turned his head with a grin on his face. Oh how badly did he want to say that- You can have it for yourself anytime.

But well, he did not say that. Because one thing that he knew was that, if he said that, there was a high chance that things would not work in a favourable way. So, he found smartness in playing safe.

The both of them stayed quite for a moment, basking in the comfortable quietness and peace that the night and the atmosphere had to offer. After a little while, Dante wanting to let the conversation going on, he turned to look at her. But when he did that, he himself froze. Dove was staring at the sky. And as the sky was clear, he could almost see the stars of the whole sky, in her eyes. She looked at the heavens with such pretty intensity, that he did not how to convey it, but Dante felt like he could just look at her forever while she stared at the sky.

A couple of minutes passed, and when Dove blinked her eyes, she felt the pairs of eyes on her. And blinking her eyes, she met his gaze and smiled at him and softly called him, "Dante?" And when she called his name, Dante broke out of his trance, and blinked his eyes a couple of times and then cleared his throat. She had caught him staring at him like an idiot. It did not affect the impression that she had of him, right?

"Did you want to say something to me, Dante?" she asked. And to calm the internal turmoil in his head, he said randomly, "No- nothing. I was just curious you were here at this time. Mostly you go to bed after putting Gavi to sleep, isn’t it?" He said glancing at the wrist watch.

Dove giggled and said, "You have even kept a track of my sleep schedule" Dante laughed and said, "It is not in a bad way, Miss employer. But this comes under the job that I am currently doing for you." Dove just smiled looking at him. Exactly, sometimes she just forgets that he is here as a ’bodyguard’. Also, that he is THE Dante Lancaster. Nowadays, she has become quite comfortable around him to just think him as a friend or maybe more like a... family.

"I know, Dante." Dove answered, Then answering his question, she said, "I actually went back to my room after putting Gavi to sleep. But then the atmosphere was so good today, so then I went to the balcony to have a little air. And from there I saw you sitting here in the garden. And everything about this night tempted me to come and join you here, and share the peace here. So here I am." Then looking at him she teased, "And I hope, I am not disturbing you, Dante?"

And at this, Dante rolled his eyes, and answered, "I would be glad if you disturb me in this way every day, Dove."
