Chapter 127: GAVI BEING THE HERO
"Come, Momma! Sit here." Gavi patted the chair next to him, his round cheeks lifted into a wide, gleeful smile.
Dove blinked at him before a small chuckle escaped her lips. "You want to sit between us?" she asked, tilting her head slightly.
The little boy nodded eagerly, his dark eyes twinkling with excitement.
Then, turning toward Dante, he batted his long lashes, his expression turning mischievously sweet. "Uncle Dante, are you mad that I’m sitting next to you?"
Dante’s gaze softened as he looked at the little boy beside him. Gavi’s smile was so wide that his eyes squinted into crescent moons, his tiny dimples peeking out.
For a brief second, Dante wondered what was going on in that tiny head of his. But deep inside, he felt an unexpected warmth bloom in his chest.
Did Gavi genuinely want to sit beside him, because he liked him so much?
He didn’t overthink it. Instead, a big grin plastered on his face, and he chuckled. He was just more than happy to share his space with the little one.
"Of course not, champ," Dante said, his voice rich with amusement. He reached out and gently ruffled Gavi’s soft hair before pinching his chubby cheeks. "In fact, I’m honored to have you sit beside me, little sir."
He said gently pinching his fluffy cheeks.
Gavi pursed his lips, his cheeks flushing slightly at the praise.
He always liked it when Uncle Dante said nice things about him—it made him feel giddy.
But wait- tonight, he wasn’t just here to enjoy compliments. He had more important things to worry about right now.
He really, really liked Uncle Dante. But he had to be sure about his intentions with her, before letting him close to his momma! And thinking this, his face turned sharp like a little fox.
Right now, his top priority was his momma.
For little Gavi, his momma was the most important. To him, his momma was a delicate flower, soft and beautiful, and flowers needed to be taken care of properly.
If Uncle Dante had any plans of getting close to his momma, Gavi had to be sure that he was good enough for her! And that he wouldn’t break her heart.
And not even only Dante! Any man had to pass that test of his.
Even if his own father would have come tomorrow, did they think that he would let him leave with testing him if he was good for his momma? No way!
Such big thoughts for such a little boy!
At that moment, it looked like Gavi was the parent to Dove!
"Alright then, let’s eat." Seeing that Gavi was finally satisfied with his seat, Dove smiled and sat down. The food was served, and soon, the quiet clinking of cutlery filled the air.
From time to time, Dante found himself glancing toward Dove and Gavi.
Dove checked on her son while eating so elegantly, and the way Gavi hummed happily after every bite—it all felt so... right.
Like a picture-perfect little family.
Dante’s gaze darkened slightly.
For four years, he had imagined moments like these. Sitting at the same table, having a happy dinner with the two people who mattered the most to him. His Dove and their son.
And now, it was real.
He has come a long way before before he noticed. His life right now had these two people about whom he would think all day and night for the last four years.
And it would be soon that they would officially be a part of his life. Dante promised in his mind.
Gavi, who had been scooping food into his mouth excitedly, suddenly gasped as a small spoonful fell from his spoon. His eyes widened, and he quickly picked it up again, stuffing it into his mouth before anyone could comment.
Dove chuckled softly, shaking her head as she wiped a stray grain of rice from his cheek.
Dante’s lips curved slightly.
This... this was everything he had wanted.
Then, just as he took another bite, Gavi suddenly straightened up as if he had remembered something important.
"Momma! Uncle Dante!" he blurted out, eyes wide with excitement. "Do you know what happened at school today?"
Dove and Dante both turned their full attention to him.
"What happened, baby?" Dove asked, her tone gentle.
Gavi beamed, setting down his spoon as he prepared to tell his tale. Her pressed his lips into a big smile, reaching ear to ear.
"Momma, Uncle Dante, today Soha fell while playing and scraped both her knees! She even bled!" He said with a gasp!
Dove’s brows knitted together in concern. "Soha? Is she your friend?" She asked.
"Yes!" Gavi nodded his head in affirmation and continued, ’Soha and Aron are my best friends! And she got hurt while we were playing." Gavi’s voice dipped slightly, as if recalling the moment saddened him.
"Oh dear... Poor girl. What happened next? Did you help her?" Dove asked, leaning in slightly.
Gavi puffed out his tiny chest. "Yes, I did!" He replied, touching the back of his nape.
Earlier That Day at Kindergarten
The playground was filled with laughter.
"Hihi! Soha, I’m here! Catch me if you can!" Aron giggled, darting behind a small tree.
"And I’m here~" Gavi called from the other side.
"And I am just here! Near you! Ayee hihi!" Another kid squealed. There were other kids playing with them too.
The children squealed and ran in different directions, their tiny feet kicking up soft dust.
In the center of the chaos, Soha stood blindfolded, giggling as she spun around, trying to catch someone.
The game was simple: whoever got caught would take Soha’s place.
She swayed left and right, following the voices, her small hands reaching out to grab someone.
But then—
Soha took a sudden step forward, and—
"Oww!"
She tripped over her own feet and tumbled forward, landing hard on the ground.
The laughter stopped.
The children quickly gathered around her.
"Soha!" Aron rushed to remove her blindfold, revealing her teary brown eyes.
Gavi knelt beside her, his small hands holding hers. "Soha, are you okay?"
Soha’s lips wobbled as she looked down at her knees.
Her eyes widened.
Blood.
Tiny drops of red stained her scraped knees.
Her breathing hitched.
"It hurts!" she sniffled, tears brimming in her eyes. "It hurts so much!"
Gavi looked around for their teacher, but she was nowhere to be seen.
"Where’s the teacher? We have to tell her!" he said.
"She just left!" another child answered. "Someone called her for something."
Aron frowned. "We need to take Soha to the medical room."
"Yes!" a little girl agreed. "My mommy says if you don’t treat wounds fast, they get worse!"
A boy gasped. "Oh no! Then we have to be quick before Soha’s wound gets bigger!"
Hearing this, Soha’s face paled.
"What?! My wound is going to get bigger?!"
More tears welled up in her eyes.
Gavi quickly spoke up. "Soha, can you walk to the medical room?"
Soha bit her lip and tried to stand—
But the moment she put weight on her leg, she winced and fell back down.
"Ouch! No... It hurts too much!"
One child stood up. "Then we have to carry her!"
"But we’re small," another pointed out, her voice soft.
The kids looked at each other in deep worry, while Soha carried softly.
Aron immediately stepped forward and crouched. "Soha, get on my back!"
Soha hesitated before wrapping her arms around his neck.
Aron attempted to lift her—
And...
"..." Soha who was still on his back.
He couldn’t.
"..." Gavi and the other kids who were looking at him.
Everyone watched in silence as Aron struggled before finally falling back onto his knees. Thankfully he wasn’t hurt.
"Oops." Aron scratched his head sheepishly. "I can’t lift you. I am so sorry, Soha."
Soha sniffed softly, before she shook her head and sighed. " It’s alright, Aron. We need someone older and stronger."
Gavi suddenly knelt before her. "Let me try."
Soha hesitated. "But what if you can’t? Did you not see Aron couldn’t pick me up."
Gavi smiled. "Then we’ll find another way."
Soha at first hesitated, but then finally nodded, as her leg was already hurting so much. She held onto him, and—
To everyone’s surprise—
Gavi lifted her up!
The children gasped.
"Wow!" Aron clapped.
Gavi carried her all the way to the medical room.
Halfway there, their teacher returned and rushed toward them.
"What happened?!" she exclaimed.
A child quickly explained.
The teacher looked at Gavi with admiration. "Gavriel, you’re such a responsible boy."
Then, she took Soha into her arms. "Come, sweetheart. I’ll carry you the rest of the way."
As Soha was taken away, Gavi stood there, hands on his hips, a proud smile on his face.
