Chapter 122: ONLY I CAN ORDER HIM
Dove leaned back in her chair, tapping her fingers on the polished desk as she considered her next move. Dante, still watching her, seemed highly amused by her reaction.
Dove shrugged. "They deserve worse."
Grace, who was still standing by the door, hesitated. "Ma’am, what should I do?"
Dove tapped her chin thoughtfully before a small smile played on her lips. "Nothing."
Grace blinked. "...?"
Dove’s expression remained casual as she elaborated, "Just ignore them for now. I’ll get to it when I feel like it."
Grace nodded in understanding and turned to leave.
The moment the door closed behind her, Dante let out a low chuckle. "You really have no mercy."
Dove smirked, leaning slightly forward with a playful glint in her eyes. "You say that as if you weren’t the one who proposed this idea in the first place."
Dante chuckled along with her, shaking his head.
Just as Grace reached for the doorknob to exit, the door suddenly swung open, and Noah stepped into the office, his expression tense.
"Dove! What—" His words caught in his throat when he noticed her and Dante sitting together on the couch, speaking in hushed tones and laughing at something.
His expression darkened.
Why was it that every time he walked into the room, he found them seated so close to each other, whispering as if they shared some private secret?
Grace, who had been about to leave, stopped in her tracks. She turned and shot Noah a look of disapproval. She did not like how he had just called out Dove’s name so casually. She was well aware of their familial ties, but this was the office. Here, Dove maintained a strictly professional demeanor, and Grace wanted to ensure that everyone followed suit.
Before Dove could respond, Grace spoke in a sharp yet composed tone. "It’s CEO Dove, Mr. Noah."
Noah stiffened slightly. He turned to look at Grace, who stood behind him with a stern expression.
He opened his mouth as if to argue but then stopped himself when he turned back to Dove. She had reclined against the couch, arms folded, her gaze steady as she asked, "Yes, Mr. Noah? Do you have something to say?"
Her voice was calm, but there was an unmistakable edge to it.
Noah hesitated for a brief second before correcting himself. "Yes, CEO Dove."
He then turned to Dante, his expression hardening. "Mr. Lancaster, could you step out for a moment? CEO Dove and I have something important to discuss."
Dante raised an eyebrow. The audacity of this man.
He turned to Dove, waiting for her reaction.
Dove, too, was staring at Noah with a mixture of disbelief and momentary speechlessness. Did he really just say that?
Then, in the next second, she gave Dante a quick shake of her head.
Dante’s smirk deepened in satisfaction. Instead of getting up, he made himself more comfortable where he was sitting, stretching out slightly as if he had no intention of moving.
Noah’s frown deepened. "Mr. Lancaster, I just asked you to leave. What’s with this behavior?"
Before Dante could respond, Dove’s voice rang out, sharp and unwavering.
"And who are you to order him, Mr. Noah?"
Noah was momentarily taken aback. He had not expected Dove to speak to him in such a sharp tone.
"But Dove, this is your office. And we have something important to discuss," he insisted.
Dove raised an eyebrow. "About what, Mr. Noah?"
Noah remained silent for a few seconds, noticing how her demeanor had suddenly turned cold. "Business," he finally muttered.
Dove simply shrugged. "Then you can say whatever it is right here. There is no need for Dante to leave." She crossed her legs and continued, "And let me remind everyone—Dante is my personal bodyguard. Only I can instruct him on what he needs to do. Others have no authority over him. If he ever needs to leave a discussion, I will be the one to ask him to do so. Understood, Mr. Noah?"
It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that Noah had literally frozen in place.
He looked at Dove, unable to form a response. It wasn’t just because she had shut him down so decisively—it was because of something else.
He had noticed how she addressed them.
From the moment she returned to the country and resumed speaking to him, she had kept things strictly professional, referring to him as "Mr. Noah" or "Director Noah." But Dante?
She had gone from calling him "Mr. Lancaster" to simply Dante.
Did Noah feel bitter about that? Yes.
Was he surprised? No.
He had resented the idea of Dante being around Dove from the very start. It had been inevitable that they would grow closer over time.
Still, the realization left a sour taste in his mouth.
Dove was still watching him, waiting for his response.
Noah clenched his jaw, then finally swallowed his irritation and nodded. "Yes, CEO Dove. I understand."
Dove studied him for a moment before nodding in return. "Good. Now, what is it that you wanted to discuss, Director Noah?"
Noah cast another glance at Dante before deciding to ignore his presence entirely. He focused on Dove, his expression serious.
"CEO Dove, what have you done with Davis Enterprises?" He asked, his brows furrowed deeply. "And why did you make such a move without consulting the senior executives or the board of directors?"
There was clear displeasure in his tone.
Dove, however, remained calm. She nodded, acknowledging his concern. "I know what I did. And this morning, I informed the senior executives about it. I told them to trust me on this matter."
Noah’s head spun at her response. That’s it?
He sighed, shaking his head in disbelief. "CEO Dove, I know you are highly capable, but do you realize the gravity of this situation?"
Dove remained silent, her gaze unwavering.
Noah continued, "The senior executives and the board of directors are extremely displeased. You made a significant decision without prior discussion, without consulting anyone, and out of nowhere. You do realize this could bring the company into serious trouble, don’t you?"
