Chapter 115: HUG
Chapter 115: HUG
"And you are still pure in all ways, Miss Dove. And you always will be."
Dove’s eyes stung listening to him say that. She opened her mouth slightly taking a deep breath. Never did she know that her heart actually wanted to listen someone say this to her.
And alas! No matter how much she tried, she could not really keep her tears to herself.
A drop of tear escaped her eyes, and then another, before they started flowing freely, and her shoulders trembled.
And seeing her, Dante instantly froze and his cutlery dropped on his plate with a noise. W- Why is she crying? He instantly panicked not knowing what should he do.
Dove lowered her head, and pressed her lips in a silent cry. Though, she tried her best to stop crying, she just couldn’t.
And looking at her, Dante felt like his heart would just jump out of his chest any moment. He was just so panicked.
He stood up from his chair at once, before going to her and he kneeled in front of her chair, "Miss Dove? What is wrong? Did I say something wrong? I am so sorry, if I did. I wouldn’t say it again! Please don’t cry. Forgive me."
Dove wiped her eyes and shook her head, intending to say that it doesn’t matter. But before she could even say something, Dante already thought that she shook her head because she wasn’t going to forgive him, and he honestly felt so torn.
His eyes were soon to turn red and he said, "Miss Dove, if you are still so angry, then you can hit me if you wish. But please stop crying." Dante honestly and seriously did not know what did he do wrong. All he knew was that Dove was crying, and he could not care any less if he had said anything actually wrong or not.
Dove wiped her tears, and though she was feeling overwhelmed, she even felt a little funny at how Dante suddenly became so hyper, and he couldn’t help but chuckle with tears in her eyes. And that making Dante freeze in his spot again, before he blinked his eyes blankly.
Dove smiled with her eyes wet and she said, "It’s not you, Mr Lancaster. You don’t have to say sorry for anything. In fact, it should be me who should be thanking you."
"Huh?" Dante blinked again.
"Whatever you told me, thank you so much. It really means a lot to me to see that someone can actually believe in me so much. In the last four years, except for a very few people everyone I met would doubt my character. Though, I might have had a position of respect and power, and most of them did not speak anything about me in front of me, they did behind my back.
Just thank you so much." And saying so, another year escaped her eyes.
Though, the world has evolved a lot and women are running in every fields going shoulder to shoulder with men. But something that the world has still not evolved yet is judging a woman’s character in an instant.
If Dove was a man and she would have been raising a child without marriage, then no one would have thrown any kind of backlash at her. In fact, some would may be even have praised her for being a single parent.
But since she was a woman, no matter in what position she was, how capable she was, she was always at a target for critisism.
And it deeply hurt her.
Though, she never ever showed it. She always had a brave front, she always showed that no one’s opinion ever matter to her but whose she seeked.
But deep inside, it did bother her. It did hurt her. It did clawed her heart. Because, at the end of the day, she was just a eighteen year old at that time. She was just a young girl, who hadn’t even seen the world at that time.
Except for a very few hand counted people, almost every single person who came across her questioned her character, be it behind her back, or in front of her, subtly or blatantly. But they did. Character that almost every girl cherished the most.
And it hurt her because, she hadn’t done anything deliberately.
And Dante? He had been the first one to say things that she wanted to listen, to believe her and look give her any judgemental looks, even before he knew anything at all.
"Thank you, Mr Lancaster." She whispered.
And the next thing that she knew was that, her arm was pulled, and she found herself in a warm embrace. A hug so secure, strong but warm. And she just let the dam out. What ever pent up emotions, she had stored in her heart about it, the hurt that she had carried in her heart, the bitterness, she just let it out.
Dove did not hold back anymore, she she cried like a child. Even Dante, his eyes were red, as drops of water escaped his eyes too. Hearing it all, listening it all, and looking at the pain her eyes and hearing that in her voice, Dante understood what she had been through.
His Dove might be a very strong, fierce, independent woman to the world. But just now, she had just shown him,.her most vurnerable part.
Her most soft part, that she had hidden from the world and kept to herself. And that instinctively brought out his protective nature. And before he knew he had pulled her in his embrace.
They both felt their heart clench, and while they were relieving their emotions, none of them had yet properly realised the hurt.
After what seemed like forever, Dove had slowly quitened down, while Dante who held her securely, with one hand the back of her head and another around her, was lost in the thoughts of the past.
Dove then blinked, as she realised their position and her face instantly turned red. And this time not because of sadness, but the situation!
