Chapter 79: Chapter 79: He Wants to Bless

"What are you looking at?" Ye Yan noticed that Fu Xingzhou had been staring at her hands.

Both had hands with long, slender joints and cool, pale skin, which, intertwined, were pleasing to behold.

"It’s nothing. I’ll take you somewhere tomorrow."

The singing nearby resumed, the previous singer had switched to "Half Moon Serenade," an emotional tune with undulating melodies that seemed to slowly narrate a touching story.

"Why did you ask me to come here?" Today was a gathering of his social circle, and she shouldn’t have been there.

"What do you think?" Fu Xingzhou lounged on the sofa, with a cigarette halfway burned in his left hand, "I brought you here as a shield."

Ye Yan was puzzled.

Fu Xingzhou chuckled lowly, "If you weren’t sitting here, there would be people constantly pushing women towards me."

Looking around, indeed, there was a lovely young woman sitting beside each man, all of whom were exceptional in figure and beauty.

There were two that she recognized as beautiful faces that often appeared in TV dramas.

"Isn’t that something Mr. Fu would enjoy?"

"What a sarcastic tone." Fu Xingzhou pinched her face, "Or would you prefer me to be embracing women on each arm?"

Ye Yan didn’t say anything. Of course, she wouldn’t prefer that.

A man sat down opposite them, with a tall build and unparalleled handsome features. Compared to Fu Xingzhou beside him, one was prestigious and the other severe, but both exuded the commanding aura of those in superior positions.

"Let me introduce you, Li Xiuze, my childhood friend." Fu Xingzhou picked up an empty glass and poured some wine.

"Nice to meet you, little sister-in-law." Li Xiuze’s eyes slightly lifted, not in contempt or indifference, but with a very sincere smile.

"Nice to meet you, Mr. Li."

Fu Xingzhou also had some close brothers in Ao City, but he never formally introduced her to them.

"What is your profession, little sister-in-law?"

Before Ye Yan could answer, Fu Xingzhou sipped his wine lightly, "Guess."

Li Xiuze thought for a moment, "A doctor."

He was certain in his tone.

Ye Yan was slightly surprised. He guessed quite accurately.

"Now you guess, what do I do?" Li Xiuze clinked glasses with Fu Xingzhou, creating a crisp sound.

"Don’t tease her," said Fu Xingzhou, his arm around Ye Yan’s shoulder, "My family’s naive little cat doesn’t play guessing games."

"Mr. Li is also a doctor," Ye Yan said with a lighthearted tone, her pale face glowing like a piece of unstained jade under the dim yellow lights, her bright eyes clear, without any impurities, penetrating to their depths at a glance.

Li Xiuze was taken aback for a moment, but Fu Xingzhou already burst into laughter.

"Where did you deduce that from?"

"Actually, I couldn’t really tell; it’s more of a kindred spirit between colleagues."

A person like Li Xiuze kept a low profile; he seemed like a successful business tycoon as well as a prominent figure in some learned profession.

She simply felt that since Li Xiuze could guess her profession so easily, it must relate somewhat to his own.

It was just a guess, after all—wrong or not, there was no shame in it.

Li Xiuze showed a smile of appreciation. Getting it right or wrong wasn’t what mattered; instead, it was her composed attitude that impressed him.

Indeed, she was a woman who could stand beside his brother.

"Professor Li, a cardiothoracic surgery expert," said Fu Xingzhou, wiping his fingers with a wet wipe. "Indeed, he’s in the same field as you."

But this was just one of Li Xiuze’s many titles. The Li Family of Hong Kong held a status not inferior to that of the wealthiest Liang Family.

"Second Young Master Fu, do you want to sing a song?" The man who had been holding the microphone turned around and asked.

Fu Xingzhou took his time with his cigarette, "I won’t sing."

He asked Ye Yan, "Do you want to sing?"

Ye Yan shook her head.

In such a gathering, filled with big shots, she only wanted to sit quietly by Fu Xingzhou’s side, trying to minimize her presence.

"What would Second Young Master Fu like to hear? I’ll sing it," said a female celebrity, the newly-crowned little queen of the music scene.

It was hard to earn the right to reach the top echelon, and her target was crystal clear; it was this Mr. Fu, who seldom returned to Hong Kong.

Mr. Fu was famously affectionate and charming; he had numerous admirers in Hong Kong. Although the woman by his side changed frequently, he was exceedingly generous with women. If one caught his eye, he would certainly not treat her poorly.

Even if it was just to be his lover for a few months, it would be worth it.

Fu Xingzhou narrowed his eyes, his right hand absentmindedly kneading Ye Yan’s arm, "If you want to sing, just sing. Why ask me? Am I a jukebox?"

"Second Young Master misunderstood, that wasn’t what I meant," the singer hadn’t expected Fu Xingzhou to be so unsparing.

Someone kindly attempted to smooth things over, "Sing something you’re good at."

The female singer’s face flushed with embarrassment, and she immediately selected a song, her signature hit that had once swept north to south in Hong Kong, solidifying her position today.

The title "Queen of Love Songs" was not an empty honor; whenever she grabbed the microphone, she shone in the spotlight, attracting the attention of everyone around her.

The melodious singing began, a heartfelt love song.

Ye Yan also knew how to sing this song and had not expected to hear the original singer perform it live one day. Indeed, hanging out with big shots comes with its perks.

But after tossing and turning throughout the day, she was feeling sleepy. Not wanting to dampen the mood, she struggled to stay alert, trying to mentally sing along to the song to fight off the drowsiness.

Fu Xingzhou suddenly looked at his watch and peered over with an intense gaze, "Tired?"

Ye Yan quickly rubbed her eyes, her voice soft and sweet, "A little."

"Let’s go home."

Ye Yan was about to nod when she was suddenly scooped up in a bridal carry. She let out a small exclamation, instinctively wrapping her arms around the man’s neck.

Her tone was shy and reproachful, "Fu Xingzhou, what are you doing?"

"Taking you home to sleep."

"Put me down quickly; so many people are watching!" Ye Yan was mortified, and though she couldn’t see them, she could feel the burning, inquisitive gazes on her as if they were X-rays.

"I’m carrying my own wife. Let them watch if they want to."

Ye Yan knew he wouldn’t listen to her, so she resigned herself and buried her face in the man’s chest.

Forget it—she was unlikely to mingle with these people in the future anyway, so she might as well brush off the embarrassment.

"Second Young Master Fu, take care."

"Come play again when you return to Hong Kong."

A chorus of farewells rang out around them.

The singer, deeply engrossed in her song, suddenly saw Fu Xingzhou stride off with someone in his arms and missed a note, singing off-key.

She had sung this song specifically for him, but it seemed he hadn’t listened at all.

"Is Second Young Master Fu serious this time?" someone whispered to Li Xiuze for the latest gossip, "He really got married?"

"Does he look like he’s kidding?" Li Xiuze took a puff of his cigarette, a faint smile on his lips.

Li Xiuze never imagined his friend would one day choose one amongst thousands of rivers.

On the surface, it seemed like a good thing, but he understood Fu Xingzhou’s nature, carved with tyranny and possessiveness, his desire to dominate was strong.

Everything he fancied could only exist under his control. Should it slip away, he would stop at nothing to reclaim it, even if it meant destruction.

And that Dr. Ye, delicate and soft, like a touch-me-not flower, yet insightful and somewhat stubbornly proud at heart.

They were like two fires that could either merge and burn more fiercely or repel each other, leading to mutual destruction.

Li Xiuze felt his concerns might be superfluous. No matter how he looked at it, his brother seemed like a fool deeply rooted in love.

He wished them well.
