Chapter 104: Don’t Die in Front of Me

Chapter 104: Chapter 104: Don’t Die in Front of Me

Tang Jingyao wanted to return to his home, but Iron General had locked the door, leaving him locked out.

In households like his, unless the master gave the order, the doors wouldn’t be locked, and that too from the inside.

Tang Jingyao rang the doorbell, and soon the butler came to open the door, his face showing surprise upon seeing him.

"Why are the doors locked so early?" the man’s tone was somber, the signature smile nowhere in sight.

The butler trembled, "Madam said you wouldn’t be coming back today."

Already acting like the boss after just moving in?

Such an imposing air of a Miss!

Tang Jingyao went upstairs, "Which room is she staying in?"

The butler hastened to reply, "Madam is staying in the second bedroom on the second floor."

Tang Jingyao stood at the second bedroom’s door and knocked forcefully.

Shortly, the door opened and the light from the hallway cast down, illuminating a grizzled skull, its empty black eye sockets staring straight at the two of them.

Even someone as worldly as Tang Jingyao couldn’t help but break out in a cold sweat.

The butler, unable to control his volume, let out a shriek like a groundhog.

Meng Tian peeked half her face from behind the skull, "What is it?"

Tang Jingyao frowned, "What are you doing so late at night?"

"I’m doing research, what else?" Meng Tian suddenly lifted the skull she was holding, "Do you know about 3D reconstruction technology? Just by your skull, one could recreate your face using a computer... How about you come in and I tell you about it?"

Tang Jingyao said nothing.

Who would want to hear about 3D skull reconstruction in the middle of the night?

No, not even ghosts!

Tang Jingyao shut the door and walked away.

It wasn’t until he entered his own room that he realized, what had he wanted to talk to her about again?

Insane, she’d made him forget with her antics.

Meng Tian looked fondly at the skull in her hands, muttering softly, "This guy has no thirst for knowledge."

Turning to see the butler, pale-faced, a hint of excitement sparked in her eyes, "Butler, how about you come and listen?"

The butler said nothing.

He was old and didn’t want to risk a work injury now.

Who knew what other frightening things were in that lady’s room? He wanted to live a long life.

"No, no, Miss Meng, please rest early."

The butler vanished as quickly as if he had greased his feet, faster than he ever ran at school.

Meng Tian went back to her desk and continued her research until she yawned and realized it was already 1 AM.

Her phone battery warning flashed red, and she hurriedly searched for a charger.

After searching everywhere, she had to admit the sad truth: she had left the charger at her old place.

There was a rule in the department that phones should not be turned off.

If a case happened during a phone-off period and she missed the call, she would miss the optimal time to inspect the scene and definitely face consequences.

Meng Tian thought about the fact that Tang Jingyao’s phone was the same model as hers, but it seemed impolite to knock on his door at this hour.

After hesitating for a while, Meng Tian decided to knock anyway.

Tang Jingyao had never been polite to her, after all.

Strangely, Tang Jingyao’s room door was slightly ajar, and inside it was pitch black except for a sliver of light from the bathroom.

"I’m coming in," Meng Tian raised her voice, "I’m really coming in."

As she pushed the door open, she caught sight of the man lying at the bathroom door.

He must have wanted to take a shower; he had just removed his upper garments, which were now scattered beside him.

"Tang Jingyao," Meng Tian strode over and bent down to check on him.

The air conditioner was on in the room, so the temperature wasn’t high, but he was sweating profusely.

He wasn’t completely unconscious, but his consciousness seemed somewhat unclear.

"Tang Jingyao, do you have low blood sugar?" Judging by his condition, it appeared like a low blood sugar episode.

Hearing her voice, Tang Jingyao weakly uttered a syllable from his thin lips, "Mm."

Patients with low blood sugar usually carry high-sugar-content foods with them, but they had just moved into this villa today.

Meng Tian suddenly remembered that she still had two packets of wedding candies in her bag.

She quickly returned from inside the house, unwrapped the candies, and stuffed the soft sugar cubes into Tang Jingyao’s mouth.

Not until Tang Jingyao’s condition eased did Meng Tian ask, "How are you feeling? Do you need to go to the hospital?"

"No need." Tang Jingyao, with his eyes closed, still had a somewhat fuzzy consciousness but was slowly recovering.

The effect of the sugar spread to his limbs and extremities, acting like a miraculous pill, reviving him as a withering tree suddenly nourished by rain.

"I’ll help you to the bed," Meng Tian hoisted the man’s arm over her shoulder; he was tall, and just the weight of half his body almost overwhelmed her.

Fortunately, Tang Jingyao had recovered somewhat, and with Meng Tian’s help, he finally made it to the bed.

The man’s arm was too heavy; Meng Tian stumbled and was heavily pulled down onto the bed, and his arm still pressed against her neck.

"Tang Jingyao, lift your hand. I’m getting crushed."

Though he looked slim, she hadn’t expected him to be so solid. It felt as hard as steel and concrete.

Tang Jingyao was unaware his hand was pressing Meng Tian down. If he saw her now, he’d likely scoff.

She truly looked like a small turtle, firmly pinned down by the neck, weak and helpless.

He lifted his arm.

Meng Tian finally freed herself from the shackles, rubbing her somewhat sore neck.

Once easy in body, she then saw him lying flat on the bed, his upper body bare, starkly entering into her line of sight.

Even having seen various male bodies, they were all dead.

This vivid, alive image was somewhat shocking.

"Bad tempered but surprisingly in good shape," Meng Tian murmured softly, kindly tossing a blanket over Tang Jingyao.

Not certain what had caused Tang Jingyao’s low blood sugar, but just having a piece of candy might not be safe.

Meng Tian noticed his bedside charger and plugged her phone into it, then opened a delivery app to order medicine.

Located in a remote area, she had to add a tip to get anyone to accept the order.

Half an hour later, the medicine arrived.

Meng Tian nudged the man on the bed, "Time for your medicine."

The man made no sound, not knowing if he was asleep or had fainted.

After a couple more pushes, he frowned in annoyance, "What?"

"Get up and take your medicine, or you might die."

"Don’t you wish I would die?" Tang Jingyao opened his eyes, his eyes looked very attractive, especially now in a drowsy and weak state.

"Just die quietly, don’t die in front of me." Meng Tian forcefully stuffed the medicine into his mouth, then handed him a glass of water, her movements not gentle at all, "Drink this."

Her attitude was harsh, her actions rough, as if dealing with a sick animal.

Furious, Tang Jingyao lacked the energy to quarrel with her and resignedly swallowed the pills.

"Your low blood sugar is quite severe. You should still get checked at the hospital tomorrow," Meng Tian stood up, "I’m good at examining bodies, not live people, that’s all the help I can offer."

The man closed his eyes, and after a long time, squeezed out two words from his mouth, "Thank you."

Meng Tian scoffed: Really fake.
