Mr. Bigshot Is Obsessed with His Hidden-Marriage Wife -
Chapter 103: You Will Be Free Soon
Chapter 103: Chapter 103: You Will Be Free Soon
That afternoon, Meng Tian moved into Zhoushan Villa.
Meng Yusheng and his wife still thought their union was due to love, so the act had to be complete; they couldn’t let slip and worry the elderly couple.
In the villa, the Tang Family had arranged for a butler and servants early on.
As soon as Meng Tian arrived, the butler directed the staff to move her luggage up, "Madam, what would you like for dinner?"
"Don’t call me Madam, just call me Meng Tian."
The butler paused, as it’s not proper to directly address the mistress by her given name; certainly, it would be against etiquette, "Then, shall I call you Miss Meng?"
"As long as it’s not Madam, whatever you call me is up to you. Also, I’m not used to being waited on; keep one housekeeper for cleaning, and dismiss the rest."
"Dismiss them all?" The butler showed a troubled expression, "But these people were hired by the master and madam to serve you."
"If you can’t make the decision, I can call Auntie right now."
The butler thought it over and, seeing Meng Tian’s firm attitude, finally nodded in agreement; this decision, he could make.
"Should we also withdraw the kitchen staff?"
"I am busy with work and rarely eat at home. If Tang Jingyao needs them, they can stay; if not, let them go."
The truth was, Tang Jingyao probably wouldn’t come here at all.
Meng Tian had just gone upstairs when Ye Yan’s phone call came through.
Strangely, after the call connected, there was no sound of speech.
"Ah Yan, Ah Yan, are you there?"
It took quite a while before Fu Xingzhou’s voice finally came from the other end, "It’s okay, she drank too much."
Ye Yan’s tolerance for alcohol was average; the cup of white wine she had drunk irritably at the table seemed to have no effect at the time, but once she got home, the drunkenness surged, and she insisted on calling Meng Tian.
Fu Xingzhou knew she was upset, and whatever she said, he did; she asked him to make the call, so he called.
But as the call connected, she fell asleep.
"Then, Mr. Fu, please take good care of Ah Yan."
"Mhm." Fu Xingzhou looked at the person nestled in his arms, wanted to say something but wasn’t sure what to say, and finally ended the call with a "Goodbye."
Meng Tian’s phone had not yet gone to black screen when another call came in.
"Captain Gu, is there a case?" Gu Changchen usually called her for work matters, so seeing his number, she was already prepared to go to the scene.
"No, no case." Captain Gu knew their relationship had always been professional, talking mostly about cases, never having eaten alone, let alone calling about personal life matters, "I just checked, and Tang Jingyao was Jiang Ying’s former fiancé."
"Yeah, I know."
"With this case, he has been appealing continuously; now that he’s married to you, he surely has ulterior motives." After learning about Tang Jingyao’s relationship with Jiang Ying, Captain Gu involuntarily shivered; he knew all too well the impact this case had had at their office.
Tang Jingyao, for the sake of his fiancée, attempted to be above the law; had Director Lu not been firm, it’s doubtful he would have supported overturning Meng Tian’s decision.
Meng Tian had sent Jiang Ying to prison; Tang Jingyao’s hatred for her was imaginable.
This marriage was a conspiracy from the start.
Meng Tian was so intelligent; she couldn’t be unaware of it.
"Forensic Doctor Meng, I just called a contact at the prison, and he said Tang Jingyao has just applied for a prison visit."
The engagement had just been set, and without even going home, he went directly to visit his ex-girlfriend in prison.
Gu Changchen was indignant, and he felt it unjust for Meng Tian.
"Thank you, Captain Gu, for telling me about this," Meng Tian spoke with a calm tone, "Do you have anything else?"
Gu Changchen had a bellyful of words, but at this moment, facing such a composed Meng Tian, he couldn’t utter a single one.
Even if she had cried out or expressed her grievances to him, he would have had a reason to comfort her as a friend, but her serenity pained and unsettled him.
"It’s nothing, take good care of yourself."
Meng Tian hung up the phone, softly expressing her thanks.
"Housekeeper, Tang Jingyao won’t be coming home today; you can lock the door."
The housekeeper was bewildered. Wasn’t today the day the couple had their official engagement and also collected their marriage certificate, becoming truly husband and wife?
On such a day, the groom isn’t coming home?
"What about... the master over there..."
Meng Tian stood on the stairs, looking at the troubled housekeeper: "You are the housekeeper of Zhoushan, not of Taihe, so there’s no need to report every little thing that happens here in detail to them. You should know what should and shouldn’t be said. The unnecessary servants can leave, and the same goes for you."
Her profession gave her clear, piercing eyes, as if she could see right into people’s hearts, and her status as the young miss of the Meng Family bestowed upon her a dignified presence.
Her words weren’t spoken with significant weight, yet they made the housekeeper realize that this new madam was not someone to be trifled with; she had her own principles and way of handling things.
To continue working here, it was clear that being a turncoat wouldn’t last long.
The housekeeper nodded: "Miss Meng, rest assured, I know what to do."
~
Prison, visiting room.
Tang Jingyao had waited for a while when a prison guard brought Jiang Ying over. Dressed in a gray prison uniform, her hair was also cut short, leaving her already thin face no bigger than the size of a palm.
The moment she saw him, Jiang Ying’s tears burst forth, "Ah Yao."
Tang Jingyao grabbed the phone on the wall, "Yingying."
"Why did it take you so long to come see me?" Jiang Ying held the phone, voice choked with sobs as she spoke through the thick glass, "I thought you despised me, that you no longer wanted me."
"Don’t be silly," Tang Jingyao whispered soothingly, "How have you been recently?"
Tang Jingyao hadn’t spared any effort in making arrangements, so Jiang Ying had been living relatively comfortably in prison. While others stayed in large, communal sleeping areas, she had a room for four and less work than others, and her meals were even occasionally improved.
"I just miss you, so much, and I’m scared, scared that you won’t want me. I’m now a murderer, and you are the heir to the Tang Family. Our statuses are worlds apart; we surely can’t be together in the future."
Jiang Ying had ultimately been convicted of manslaughter, and with Tang Jingyao’s maneuvering, plus the substantial compensation received by the victim’s family, she was only sentenced to three years. Over a year had already passed, and if they could argue for a reduced sentence during this time, she might be released within a year.
"Rest assured, you’ll be free soon," Tang Jingyao had already made ample arrangements. Jiang Ying would definitely be on the list for the upcoming parole, "I’ll be waiting for you on the outside."
"Ah Yao," Jiang Ying spread her hand against the glass, like a fragile doll, "Will you still marry me?"
Tang Jingyao’s expression darkened but didn’t immediately answer her question.
His silence was, in fact, his answer, and the light in Jiang Ying’s eyes began to dim.
She knew then that the Tang Family would no longer accept her.
"No matter whether I marry you or not, I’ll ensure that you’re taken care of for the rest of your life." Tang Jingyao clenched his fist and placed the phone back on the hook.
On the way back, the driver asked, "Sir, where to?"
The image of Jiang Ying’s gaunt figure and aggrieved face flashed before Tang Jingyao’s eyes, as well as thoughts of the instigator of it all.
"Back to Zhoushan."
