Chapter 994 - Chapter 994 Chapter 994 Split
Chapter 994: Chapter 994: Split Chapter 994: Chapter 994: Split The raucous cawing of the carrion crows and the sound of their wings slicing through the air added to the chaos, frustrating and distracting everyone even further.
As they watched the carrion crows swooping down from the sky, everyone except Li Yao swallowed hard; it was just too thrilling and frightening.
In the game’s ancient era, with technological advancements, many top players or those with special methods could already farm monsters in groups, but that was just a handful of them, a few or perhaps a dozen or two, who had those special methods.
In situations like this, where the crows blotted out the sky, it was no different from courting death.
Though they had spent half the night gathering materials for Flash Bombs, to be honest, they had no choice but to trust Li Yao, although they didn’t really have much confidence in reality.
Everyone’s complexion looked terribly unsightly, and if it weren’t for Li Yao’s unfazed demeanor, they might have been tempted to run away.
In the game, it wasn’t about fear of dying; it was about not needing to die like this, especially when everyone was striving to reach the crucial level forty. They all had ambitious hopes; after all, which player didn’t want to become the strongest, to have their name appear on all the leaderboards?
With the appearance of various leaderboards, countless zealots were striving like mad to rank up day and night.
The reason they had paid such a steep price for this mission was precisely because they saw the value and rewards of the task. Especially when Crystal had speculated that it was a mainline quest, they were utterly relentless.
“Stop shaking; get ready,” Li Yao frowned upon seeing the first tank’s hands trembling as he prepared to throw his bomb.
“Okay, okay.” The tank, gazing at the carrion crows diving from the sky, quivered with a tremulous voice. He struggled to calm himself down; damn, this was just too damn thrilling.
Li Yao looked up again, his eyes turning blue as he frantically simulated and calculated in his mind.
“Aren’t we moving yet?” Kitty was also extremely nervous.
“F*ck, don’t tell me you’ve frozen up. They’re about to swoop down, why aren’t we attacking?” Ling Feng stood with his hands sweating profusely as he yelled.
“Shut the hell up,” Li Yao barked. “Like I said before, if you don’t trust me, leave the team.”
The carrion crows hurtled toward them in a frenzy, and as they got closer, everyone’s nerves tightened even further.
“Number one, number two, fire,” Li Yao suddenly commanded.
The two tanks flinched and then hurled their Flash Bombs toward the sky.
One Flash Bomb flew diagonally forward while the other streaked toward the team’s rear on a diagonal trajectory.
Then, like two small suns bursting, the multitude of crows that had already formed a small canopy over them became enshrouded in light, and this patch of sky was illuminated brightly.
Although the Flash Bombs weren’t aimed at them, the team still experienced a moment of blindness.
As their vision returned, everyone witnessed a shocking scene.
The previously dive-bombing carrion crows were now falling like arrows and raindrops.
Thud, thud, thud…
The carrion crows fell to the ground like droplets, their heads bursting upon impact due to the fast falling speed, compounded by their own dive velocity.
“Don’t be stunned,” Li Yao ordered. “Illumination Holy Shield!”
Crystal was struck on the head by a carrion crow, staggering as over a third of her health fell, which jolted her back to reality.
A crystal, radiating a holy glow, appeared in Crystal’s hands. As she chanted a soothing spell, a golden shield enveloped the entire team.
“Follow my lead.”
Actually, many team members had been hit by the carrion crows, but with the activation of the Illumination Holy Shield, the birds’ impacts were now merely clattering against the light barrier.
Ripples appeared on the light shield, but the carrion crows burst one by one, their death throes ghastly to witness, and the thick, decay-scented stench of blood made everyone feel queasy.
Although it was impossible to count how many carrion crows were killed in this wave, everyone knew from the small spike in their experience points that the number must have been astonishingly large.
The carrion crows circled frenziedly above their heads before diving down again.
“Second wave, release,” Li Yao roared.
Then the second volley of Flash Bombs was launched into the sky, followed by another shower of dead crows.
Meanwhile, the team sprinted crazily toward the Mother Tree under the protection of the Illumination Holy Shield.
Then came the third wave, the fourth wave, the fifth wave…
After the mad surge of experience, everyone had lost their initial fear and worry, looking at Li Yao as if he were some kind of monster. Though no one said anything, their admiration for Li Yao was beyond words.
“Wow, this is so exhilarating, a rise of at least 3% in experience with each wave; that’s the amount we would normally get in an hour. A few more dozens of these and we’ll level up,” the little cat yelled excitedly.
“Yeah, let’s forget the mission for now and just level up here. A few thousand Flash Bombs, my God, think about how many levels we can gain!” Ling Feng stood tall and said excitedly, “By then, what’s Prairie Fire with his top rank? He’s nothing. We’ll all outshine him.”
It had to be said, the proposal was too tempting, and almost everyone was swayed as they all turned their gazes towards Li Yao.
Li Yao’s face momentarily darkened as he said coldly, “You really are daydreaming, you think these crows are so stupid there’s no hope for them.”
“What do you mean? It’s such a good idea and you disagree? Ask everyone if they aren’t thinking the same as me,” Ling Feng stood tall with a smug look on his face.
“Fuck, shut up,” Li Yao snapped as he noticed the crows seemed to form a vortex, his expression suddenly changing.
“Meow, what’s with the attitude? Can’t I even voice my opinion? That’s too domineering,” Ling Feng stood there unabashedly, as by now, everyone was thinking the same as him.
“We should follow the leader,” the cool and detached Xia voiced, though she too was tempted, she still held onto her promise.
Bing Yu also nodded and said, “We’re here to complete a mission.”
The little cat chimed in, “But this is the chance to climb the level leaderboard.”
The other power levelers nodded in agreement.
“Majority rules,” Ling Feng declared triumphantly.
“Fine, you go ahead and play. I quit being the leader. Play however you want,” Li Yao said, glancing at them as if they were idiots. He then passed the leadership to the cool and detached Xia.
Li Yao then left the team amidst the stunned gazes of everyone, taking a step away from the group.
The cool and detached Xia, taking the lead, said, “One should keep their word.”
Then, she handed the leadership to Ling Feng, left the team as well, and followed after Li Yao.
Bing Yu, without another word, also left the team and caught up with Li Yao and Xia.
Li Yao, taken aback, then invited the two into his party.
“It’s chaos now, we should back out,” Li Yao said gravely.
“What about them?” Xia inquired.
Li Yao scoffed, “A bunch of idiots. They like grinding for experience so much, let them have their fill.”
