Chapter 981 - Chapter 981 Chapter 981 A Man Like the Wind
Chapter 981: Chapter 981: A Man Like the Wind Chapter 981: Chapter 981: A Man Like the Wind Li Yao had three goals for this trip, the first was to see if he could complete the main quest, which was a given.
Next, he wanted to find a way to get his hands on Mimiron’s blueprints, and more importantly, to swindle an NPC to alleviate Starfire’s financial crisis.
Starfire had been spending money like water recently, and although their income was substantial, their expenses were even greater. If they carried on this way, it would restrict Starfire’s Array.
But Li Yao didn’t want to waste time making money, so he came up with this plan on the fly. It was like killing several birds with one stone.
The fellow they were about to cheat was no simpleton, having existed for an incredibly long time. Whether they could achieve their goal was uncertain, so they couldn’t leave any loose ends. Regardless of the success, they absolutely couldn’t let that NPC find any clues that he was Prairie Fire.
“Everybody ready? Then, Bing Yu, begin,” said Dandan Xia lightly.
“Okay.” Bing Yu replied as she took out a small wheeled mechanical body and placed it on the ground.
“Group Stealth.”
Following Dandan Xia’s words, the team’s rogue activated Group Stealth, enveloping everyone in the party.
They quickly made their way to a simple stronghold. In fact, by its silhouette, it must have been a small town long ago, now in ruins and occupied by subjugated demons.
The team stopped outside the ruins of the town. Then, a flash of light crossed Bing Yu’s eyes, and she suddenly threw several grenades inside the town.
The rest of the team also hurled their grenades, followed by deafening explosions.
Then they heard Wulala’s voice, as many subjugated demons opened the gates and swarmed out.
Bing Yu then held something resembling a remote control, and the wheeled mechanical body in the distance lit up with two red glows at the top.
Next, two gun barrels emerged from the machine, which quickly opened fire.
The Fire Gun’s power wasn’t great, but it still burst into a shower of blood on the bodies of the subjugated demons in front.
The demons made a hullabaloo and swarmed towards the mechanical body.
Then, under remote control, the mechanical body raced swiftly towards the distance.
Li Yao took a quick look–the overall strength of these subjugated demons was passable, with the lowest being at Silver Hero level, and some of those demon Wizards were all mini-bosses.
Moreover, hundreds of subjugated demons poured out, clearly indicating there were many more inside the stronghold.
“Quick, charge with us.” Dandan Xia saw Li Yao was still interested in watching the excitement and abruptly pulled him along.
However, Li Yao then rushed with the others into the dilapidated town.
Next, the two narrow broken town gates were closed by two melee combatants, and Bing Yu even took out a low-level Engineer Lock to lock the gates immediately.
Boom, boom, boom, boom…
The subjugated demons outside, realizing the gates were shut, turned back to assault the gates. Meanwhile, the demons inside who hadn’t charged out also noticed the now-visible group of people.
Then, many subjugated demons yelled and charged towards the team.
The team quickly formed a defensive formation and started intense melee combat.
“The first target is the closest to us, in the Blacksmith’s shop. Everyone, keep up.”
The combat strength of the team was formidable, as each member fought with no reservations.
Although there was a multitude of Fallen Demons, this team worked with such seamless coordination, and each member was powerful. Being a team with three healers and two tanks, their philosophy was not to strive for meritorious deeds but to avoid errors.
Inflicting damage wasn’t the goal; the aim was to endure for as long as possible and to unlock several advanced Engineer Lock chests.
The team charged straight into the Blacksmith’s shop, wiped out the Fallen Demons within, and then promptly secured the entrance.
“We can’t stay in one place for too long, otherwise, the big boss here can easily ambush us, and if we linger, we’ll get completely surrounded,” said Xia Xiaodan. “It’s all on you now.”
“Give me a minute.” As soon as Li Yao entered, he saw an old Engineer chest and didn’t seem to care much about it. Such locks were no challenge for him.
“Pfft, big brother, can you not show off? A minute? Stop joking around,” laughed the team’s tank.
“One minute is actually quite conservative; thirty seconds would do. I understand, your abilities are limited, surely you won’t be able to hold them off for long,” Li Yao said as he walked towards the chest.
The others looked at Li Yao as if he were an idiot. Even Bing Yu rolled her eyes and said in disdain, “Big brother, can we not joke around, please?”
Ling Feng shouted angrily, “Damn it, I knew we shouldn’t rely on such impractical nonsense; looks like we’re done for again.”
The despair was evident on the faces of the rest, and Xia Xiaodan added, “If you really can open this boss in thirty seconds, aside from the quest items, all the loot is yours…”
Before she could finish her sentence, a “click” sound interrupted everyone, and as they turned, they saw Li Yao had already opened the chest.
“Damn, thinking that imitating the sound of opening a chest would actually open it… Wait, what the hell, how is this possible?” Ling Feng turned around, and his face froze in shock.
The others also wore expressions of disbelief. They knew that the last time they hired an advanced Engineer player, it took ten minutes to unlock the simplest boss lock, and the time only got longer after that, resulting in their team’s defeat.
Now, while they were still talking, the lock on the chest had been opened. If they hadn’t known that this chest reset every six hours, they would have thought it was a fake.
“Hey, can you guys be a bit more professional? Healers, heal up quickly. Tanks, could you properly barricade the door and stop being distracted?” Li Yao said as he took the items from the chest and tossed them to Xia Xiaodan.
“Cough, cough, I did say that if you open the chest in thirty seconds, everything but the quest items is yours,” Xia Xiaodan stated.
Li Yao curled his lips and said, “Forget it. What am I supposed to do with a piece of cloth armor epic gear? It would just waste space in my bag.”
The rest were speechless again. Every time, the chest yielded epic gear worthy of envy, yet in his mouth, it turned into rubbish that nobody wanted, merely taking up valuable bag space. What a joke.
But the impact of what they had just witnessed was so great that they couldn’t dwell on these trivial matters because they finally saw a glimmer of hope.
“The second key fragment is in the inn; move out and kill your way through. What are you still doing here?” Li Yao noticed that the team was still foolishly guarding the door without any intent to push forward as the Fallen Demons continued to gather.
“Oh, oh, the second target, the inn,” Ling Feng said, still dazed and confused.
Then they finally started making their way outward.
Li Yao walked leisurely through the middle of the team, speaking to Xia Xiaodan, “Truly a wealthy boss you are, completely unconcerned with money to have hired such a clueless team.”
Xia Xiaodan, head lined with dark streaks, and the others were rendered speechless once more, yet no one dared to mock Li Yao any longer…
