Chapter 980 - Chapter 980 Chapter 980 Life and Death Shepherd
Chapter 980: Chapter 980: Life and Death Shepherd Chapter 980: Chapter 980: Life and Death Shepherd Bixuboxu, Li Yao abruptly paused upon hearing the name of this boss.
This boss was also quite famous, ranked among the top ten boss killers, and held a very high position on that list.
In Li Yao’s memory, it seemed that it was not until three years after the game’s launch that a level 40 team claimed the first kill of this boss, which was a sensational event at the time.
Latter on, as players became more familiar with the Old Gods, the Neutral Continent would gradually become more lively.
After all, the monsters on the Neutral Continent were densely populated, making it the best place for leveling up. Although the notoriety of Bixuboxu came later, its fearsome reputation had already spread far and wide.
However, this boss did not yet have much fame since the Frozen Plateau was currently rarely visited by players.
“Have you heard of this boss?” Xia, ever nonchalant, was surprised by Li Yao’s reaction and asked.
Li Yao shook his head. “No, I just think the name is very strange.”
“The names of monsters on the Neutral Continent are indeed quite peculiar. I thought this boss was a treant given its name, but it turned out to be a Fallen Demon,” Xia continued to explain, “It should be a Fallen Demon Wizard, but not entirely. This boss is very strange.”
“Not good, we’ve been spotted by the monsters,” the team’s Rogue shouted through the voice chat.
“Prepare for battle,” Ling Feng announced.
Quickly, the team arranged the ranged and healers within the inner circle. The monsters here were all defilers, Fallen Demons, Frost Wolves, and even solitary Warcrafts could be encountered.
However, this team was evidently strong and it wasn’t their first time here, so their coordination was relatively seamless. Although surrounded by monsters, they still advanced and retreated in an orderly fashion.
While fighting, Ling Feng said, “It’s a hunt, right? We might encounter even more dangerous situations soon. We don’t need you to be very strong in combat, but when it’s crucial, you must save your own life.”
Seeing Li Yao nod without even intending to engage, the team’s main tank snorted, “Just another freeloader. Both the hand crossbow at your waist and the sickle on your back are just for show. Just save your life, and don’t end up like that so-called master engineer who didn’t even understand the basics of movement and evasion, wasting our resurrection spells.”
“A lifestyle player trying to act cool is nothing like Prairie Fire. People these days, honestly,” the healing Druid muttered as well.
“Alright, everyone, focus. We must succeed this time, or you won’t get much of your commission, will you?” Xia frowned before turning to Li Yao, adding, “Don’t take it to heart. It’s just that the last so-called engineer was so bad that we wiped twice, wasting a lot of time.”
Li Yao nodded to show his understanding, not bothering to dwell on these matters.
Xia was a Priest, and after a quick look, Li Yao realized she was holding back; her spell casting pattern had already revealed that she was indeed a highly skilled elite profession, a Life and Death Priest.
As far as Li Yao knew, such Priests were rare, not because the related tasks were difficult to accept. In fact, this elite profession was open to all Priests willing to undertake the challenge.
However, the task for this elite profession was extremely difficult, only slightly less so than that of a Dark Ranger.
Completing it required not only strength but also a great deal of luck.
Because this Priest needs the endorsement of a Naru Shard in the final step.
The Naru, acclaimed as the most pure creatures of Light beneath the great lord of the multiverse, represent the Holy Light.
However, the boundary between extreme light and extreme darkness is hair-thin; upon death, the Naru transform into pure Dark Life Entities. Moreover, they can reincarnate under certain circumstances, which is quite terrifying.
Priests of Life and Death need the approval of a Naru Shard. If they are killed in battle, they can transform.
For instance, if the Priest currently follows the Sacred Light, after death, they won’t die but will instead become a shadow form.
After two transformations, they can achieve a balance between light and darkness.
This profession is complex and powerful; average players simply can’t manage it. Mere technical skill is not enough; strategy and intellect are crucial for these Priests.
However, Li Yao did not expose them. People hide for their own reasons.
Along the way, the team nearly wiped three times, the most dangerous situation leaving only three people alive to finish the fight and then waiting slowly for the resurrection timer before proceeding.
But overall, their combat strength was formidable, especially Bing Yu, with her solid archery skills and a boss-level Mechanical Pet, her combat power was off the charts.
Her Mechanical Pet is quite impressive; it can now transform into combat and mount modes. In combat mode, it looks like a spiked behemoth resembling a Tyrannosaurus. In mount mode, it simply retracts those spikes and takes on characteristics more suitable for a mount.
“We’re almost there,” said the calm summer as she eyed the tremendous Ancient Tree in the distance, “Bixuboxu looks like a standard Fallen Wizard, but there are so many Warcraft here that it’s impossible to discern which one is him. This boss is the sneakiest and most cunning I’ve ever encountered. Besides resurrecting standard Fallen Wizards, he can also resurrect himself, making him virtually inexhaustible. Plus, if the team lets its guard down, he’ll blend in with the regular Fallen Wizards and launch an attack, easily leading to a team wipe.”
“Our task is not actually to kill him but to draw their attention and unlock their Engineer Lock treasure chests to get a Rune Key inside. However, there are eight chests around, and we can only proceed to unlock the final chest containing the Rune Key by slowly opening the others.”
Taking up the conversation, Ling Feng said, “Don’t worry about the details. Your task is simple: unlock the Engineer Lock as quickly as possible while we draw the monsters’ attention. I hope you’re more reliable than the last idiot who just wasted our time.”
Li Yao raised an eyebrow and said, “Just a Rune Key, easy.”
The calm summer frowned, “It starts off easy, but each one is harder than the last. Plus, the monsters are endless, and we have a limited time to hold out.”
“Got it, don’t worry. I told you, even if it’s not an Engineer Lock but Rune Locks, they’re a piece of cake for me,” Li Yao said casually.
The other team members, with a look of exasperation, couldn’t be bothered to engage with Li Yao any longer. The so-called experts before him had boasted the same way, and in the end, they had gone from exalted to defeated.
Li Yao squinted at the distant Warcraft camp, his mind was on the boss’s potential drops. According to his knowledge, the boss would drop a very decent bullet formula and a grenade blueprint–excellent items, at least for the transition period.
Li Yao was contemplating whether or not to take down the boss. After all, the first kill usually had the highest drop rate, and it would be pointless to farm it later when his own level was too high.
However, Li Yao didn’t want to reveal his true capabilities–not that he couldn’t expose Prairie Fire’s identity, but to keep NPCs in the dark, he couldn’t afford any slip-ups. NPCs in this realm of ancient deities were incredibly shrewd and wise…
