Chapter 941 - Chapter 941 Chapter 941 The Battle of Dawn
Chapter 941: Chapter 941 The Battle of Dawn Chapter 941: Chapter 941 The Battle of Dawn “We’ve got a situation,” Li Yao called out in the Legion channel.
It was already deep into the night, the time just before dawn, which is the darkest period.
During the day, ordinary Starfire players who had participated in battle underwent a whole day of adjustments and drills, and at night they began their own activities, as if they were holding a bonfire party.
They even organized competitions, offering up their prized possessions as prizes.
At this stage, there were very few leveling up at night; everyone had one or two hobbies.
Things like Hearthstone Heroes, Gwent, and of course, pet battles. The gods had even introduced so-called pet dungeons.
You could assemble your own little pet team or even a squad to run through dungeons. These dungeons had a lot of benefits not just for the pets, but players could gain a good deal of experience, and by killing certain bosses, they could obtain equipment and items.
The corresponding pet battles were no longer satisfying them, and dungeon racing had become the most interesting competition for the pets.
TongTong was an expert in this area and had organized this competition, having a blast.
This kind of activity, which allows both the training of pets and the gaining of experience and equipment, was the most popular among players. Even the two card games provided many achievements, and by completing certain achievements, players could receive corresponding rewards and titles.
Take the card games, for example. Winning ten thousand matches would get you a corresponding mount, the Hearthstone Steed, and Gwent mount exchange cards–and who knows how many players were playing their hearts out for these.
A night of madness left the spectators speechless to the extreme.
Others were fighting to the death for military exploits, while Starfire was quiet and even seemed to be amusing itself.
But as it got later into the night, Sister Li told everyone to rest and conserve energy, for they all felt that the battle was drawing near.
As Li Yao spoke, all the sleeping Starfire players suddenly awoke and quickly got into position.
“Yaoji, it’s your turn,” Li Yao said.
The reason Yaoji was in command was that she was best at one-on-one combat. Though she could move freely within the Legion, it was essentially difficult to execute a combo kill on an opponent within the ranks.
Sister Li was a powerful damage dealer, with a wide range of attacks. And Li Yao himself was more like a cavalryman. He could serve in a commanding position, but that would be a waste.
Li Yao’s condition was more suited for charging into battle or holding his own alone.
“Been idle for a day, finally time to move a bit,” Unparalleled Yaoji proclaimed from atop the walls: “By my command, all Hunters release flares!”
Following Yaoji’s command, all Hunters notched their arrows and fired, sending dazzling streaks of light into the sky.
The entire camp was illuminated, and the previously quiet live stream suddenly boiled with excitement.
At this time of the night, almost all guilds were at rest. The onset of battle at Starfire brought anticipation to many viewers.
With the lift-off of a large number of flares, the entire outpost was lit up.
Then one Mage after another cast magic, igniting huge fire beacons, causing the outpost to be as bright as day, but this was only inside the outpost–the walls were still shrouded in darkness.
Soon after, within the Starfire outpost, many Stealth Thieves who had somehow infiltrated the area were discovered.
There was no need for Yaoji to say anything as a barrage of attacks overwhelmed the thieves.
“Tanks, form up and head to the walls, ice Mages form up and head to the walls, get in formation,” Unparalleled Yaoji continued: “Cannons crew, get ready.”
Enemies at a distance communicated, “Damn, we’ve been spotted. Since that’s the case, raise the flag.”
Li Yao saw the enemy’s glowing flag and said, “The Earl Guild, from the large European administrative region, specializes in lightning-fast siege warfare. In just one day, they took down two strongholds, one of which belonged to a super guild. They have siege ladders and a variety of special magic shields, which can protect those scaling the ladders and the players from withstanding a significant amount of force and damage.”
The enchantress gave a nod and commanded, “In that case, don’t give them a chance to reach the city wall. Just wipe them out from a distance. Prepare the Hunter crossbows too, do not let them scale the walls.”
Upon realizing they were spotted, the Earl Guild immediately began their assault.
But what welcomed them were cannons, the roaring of which awoke the night sky. Many guilds, previously asleep, were suddenly startled awake and looked towards the distant firelight.
Everyone knew that only Starfire had cannons, which meant that someone had finally decided to make a move against Starfire.
In fact, many prudent guilds believed that the best course of action was to ignore Starfire Guild entirely, as it was clear that their setup was defensive in nature.
If no guild paid attention to Starfire Guild, then Starfire would inevitably grow impatient and leave their stronghold, at which point they wouldn’t be much of a threat anymore.
However, many understood this to be mere wishful thinking. Starfire’s military achievements were numerous; defeating them and seizing their possessions would result in a significant boost in both merits and strength.
In the beginning, it was Starfire’s deterrence that held everyone back, but as one day passed and many guilds secured consecutive victories, their confidence grew.
Take the Earl Guild for instance; they started with little boldness, first targeting a large guild, and managed to easily destroy them.
Then they set their sights on another large guild, which they also took down with ease.
This success inflated their confidence enormously. After all, conquering strongholds brought a hefty amount of military merits, so the substantial prize that was Starfire naturally caught their eye.
Many leaders of other guilds cursed in frustration, and even more guilds could no longer hold back.
What was supposed to be the darkest moment before dawn became tumultuous.
Boom, boom, boom, boom…
One by one, artillery shells with trails of fire flew out, landing upon the charging formation of the guild.
These shells were not the sort the Earl Guild had imagined, which would kill a few people upon impact. Instead, they exploded upon hitting the ground.
The blasts were akin to a Mage’s Fire Resistance Aura, with waves of Flame Shockwaves spreading out.
The spectators saw that, as the flames burst and illuminated the surroundings, players were flung out like rag dolls from the shockwave.
Their health was instantaneously depleted, and flashes of white light sparkled everywhere.
“Damn it, these are not solid shot for ships but explosive shells with a wide blast radius,” the commander of the Earl Guild’s eyes turned red.
Because neither squishy players nor tanks could withstand a single hit from the cannons, and even those who used invincible abilities were killed instantly, this meant that the damage from the shells exceeded their limits.
“Spread out, spread out!”
But the area along the walls was so limited, how much could they really spread out?
The cannons continued to roar, and the Earl Guild, even while carrying their siege ladders, suffered heavy losses and fell to the ground long before reaching the walls.
When they managed to get a bit closer, what awaited them were the Ice Mages’ blizzards, reducing their agility to an extreme low…
