Chapter 1354 - Chapter 1354 Chapter 1354 Tit for Tat

Chapter 1354: Chapter 1354: Tit for Tat Chapter 1354: Chapter 1354: Tit for Tat This was a world of fantasy, and there were real deities, so naturally, the statues of the gods were not ordinary sculptures.

However, the methods by which the statues could possess spiritual energy and function were quite limited. The first was to obtain divinity, a process by which a deity’s spiritual power descended, using the statue as a medium.

The second method was that devotees’ long-time worship and offering could also grant some of the deity’s power.

And the most supreme method was to first be bestowed with divinity and then to receive the worship of believers. In fact, all gods with faithful followers did so.

The guild also had various statues, and using offerings to sacrifice for temporary power was another way the statues could be used.

Put simply, it was a transaction with the gods, sacrificing offerings to obtain certain powers, with each side getting what they needed without owing each other anything.

The appearance of the Lion Scorpion Goddess’s statue clearly indicated preparations had been made for the confrontation with the Goddess Ross; though she hadn’t shown up, such an array obviously intended to see the current slaughter to its end.

Li Yao watched the brutal fighting outside but did not directly provoke or engage in combat. Trying to kill the projection of the Lion Scorpion Goddess would be tantamount to suicide for him now.

What surprised Li Yao even more was that another dark, spider-shaped portal appeared, and squad after squad of Night Elves and Temple Guards of the Goddess Ross emerged.

As the main deity, Goddess Ross naturally had her own pantheon, except that after the Twilight of the Gods, over ninety percent of the deities had completely fallen, leaving too few deities in this world.

Although Goddess Ross herself had survived, her subordinate deities had almost all died in battle, with only three surviving subordinate deities, who were the three deities directly granted power by her: Spider Goddess Corpse Luo, the Fallen Elf Goddess first mother Alice, and the Corrosion Girl Verna.

However, although the Corrosion Girl was alive, rumor had it that she was beaten so badly she nearly lost her divinity, and fell into an endless slumber. Her followers and church could no longer contact her, and they naturally dissipated.

Corpse Luo was also beaten to near annihilation and was hiding somewhere, barely clinging to life, while the first mother Alice had been knocked down into the depths of the Abyss by unknown forces within God’s Kingdom.

If it weren’t for the fact that Ross’s injuries were lighter than those of the Lion Scorpion Goddess and that she had made arrangements in the main plane, she would have likely been at a disadvantage by now.

The conflict between them began because of a male deity but had escalated far beyond that.

Now, with the mighty Death God of the Abyss World fallen, deities capable of contending for dominion with them had not been seen for tens of thousands of years, and both parties, including their followers, were fighting for the sovereignty of the Abyss World.

The Lion Scorpion Goddess had not neglected to make arrangements in the main plane, but when the sky fell and the earth split, a vast number of continents shattered, and her preparations just so happened to be in the crumbling areas, now vanished without a trace.

Now, to gain a foothold in the main plane, Goddess Ross naturally would not mimic her own advantages. Without the help of subordinate deities and just a lighter injury, she could oppose the Lion Scorpion Goddess.

If this state of affairs continued, allowing the other side to gain the resources of the main plane and replenish the three subordinate deities, the result would be very unfavorable for Ross.

“Ross is indeed watching every moment,” Li Yao realized when he saw the Divine Guard mobilized, but he was not relieved; it meant greater danger.

In Li Yao’s view, their only role was to find the location of the temple, and now they were no longer useful. What use could a few of them be against the Lion Scorpion Goddess?

But why was their task to kill the Lion Scorpion Goddess? In actuality, the Goddess Luo wasn’t really intending for them to complete the task. She was scheming for them to die in battle during the course of the mission and had no desire to pay the promised reward.

In the last life, countless players were toyed with by the devious deities of the Chaos Gods pantheon, thinking they had received a great mission, only to pay a heavy price and end up with nothing to show for it.

Now understanding his own predicament, Li Yao knew what he had to do. The best outcome would be to have the two goddesses inflict mutual damage, which would allow him to leave safely. Otherwise, he would be in grave danger.

Li Yao was all too aware that gaining divinity had come at a huge advantage, and it was out of character for Goddess Luo not to hold him accountable. It was too discordant with her nature to let someone gain an advantage over her so easily.

Half an hour later, the blood-soaked players had already fought their way into the deeper layers of the Abyss World, and the team had split up. Starfire and a few others had also gathered around Li Yao.

At the Dark Elf’s side, many chests were brought out. As the chests were opened, their myriad strange glows made all the players salivate.

Some chests contained Gold Shiny gold coins, others held colorful Magic Gems, and some contained various pieces of equipment–the lowest grade being purple epic items, with a few golden ones, and one huge chest emanated a dark golden light.

The High Priest of the Dark Elves chuckled as he said, “Brave warriors, fight here and slay these monsters, and you will gain the corresponding honors. With these honor points, you can exchange for these precious equipments and jewelry, or even powerful skills and Divine Powers.”

The players were originally here to explore the temple, and these monsters were unavoidable obstacles. None had come unprepared for a fight. Now, with the promise of honor for slaying them, the players were already howling with excitement.

Many looked over the dark gold equipment, each piece exquisite. If it weren’t for the powerful Temple Guards, perhaps some would even consider snatching them.

“What a cunning trick, this is sending people off to die!” Li Yao sighed. Even he had his eye on a piece of equipment, let alone the other players. If it weren’t for the countless losses suffered last time, Li Yao himself might have been desperate to gather honors.

“Could this be a scam?” the enchantress asked. “That Leather Bracers, it actually increases agility, that’s too scarce.”

“And that assembly tool, it can actually construct a set of attributes based on one’s individual pieces of equipment; I really want it,” Tonton also said, drooling.

“Give it a rest, look at how many honor points are needed, it’s impossible,” Li Yao said seriously. “We’re going to join this fight, but not for honors. Let’s just get other benefits, and then you guys send me back.”

“Like that, huh? Just let the Magician pull you back,” the guardian suggested.

“If it were that simple, what would I need you guys for? I’d have been back at the guild already,” Li Yao briefly recounted his encounter.

The others immediately understood the gravity of the situation. The most essential outcome was for Li Yao or someone else to leave the Abyss World; all other matters were no longer of importance.

And at that moment, another Priestess appeared at the top of the temple, her voice spreading throughout the Abyss World.

“Beware, adventurers, do not be fooled by the treacherous followers of Luo. This space is cloaked in my god’s Divine Power. Those who oppose my god will be cursed, while those who fight for my god will be blessed. Here, too, are the spoils of war prepared for each adventurer.”

In front of the temple, Demons also brought out no shortage of chests…
