Chapter 1240: Chapter 1240 Round 2 Chapter 1240: Chapter 1240 Round 2 “Big brother is so amazing, I need to work hard too and hope to own my Shaman Mech one day,” Tong Tong said excitedly upon seeing Li Yao return.
Li Yao patted her head and took his seat.
Li Yao’s mother asked with concern, “Are you alright?”
Li Yao shook his head slightly, “I’m fine, it was a piece of cake, they were too weak.”
“That’s good, I was scared to death just now,” Li Jia also said, full of worry.
“I’m fine, aren’t I? They couldn’t even touch me, what could have happened to me?” Li Yao reassured his sister.
Li Yao’s older sister and Yaoji exchanged glances and also offered words of comfort, while Qin Feng Yi silently twisted open a bottle of a nutritional supplement drink and handed it to Li Yao.
Li Yao forced a smile and began to drink slowly. The competition continued with the last two matches ahead.
Only Li Yao’s older sister, Yaoji, and Qin Feng Yi noticed Li Yao’s hands trembling slightly, betraying his outward calm.
After all, it was his first real engagement, not a game. During the competition, he thought about reversing the downturn of the New Mech, but once he returned, he was frightened by the aftermath. Because of him, hundreds had been seriously injured, and even one had died–not just any random creatures, but living beings with Advanced Wisdom similar to humans.
But he couldn’t show his real feelings, he didn’t want his parents and friends to worry, and he had to appear as composed as he did in the game.
The middle-aged official’s eyes also lit up as he muttered to himself, “He really is a rookie on the battlefield; otherwise, he would have been too terrifying.”
His secretary asked with curiosity, “What did you say?”
“I’m saying that this Li Yao is very impressive. As long as he wins the championship, he has a limitless future ahead of him. We need to forge a good relationship,” the middle-aged official said with a smile.
“Oh, oh, I’ve got it,” the secretary said while also glancing at Li Yao, who was sipping the drink with eyes filled with a trace of envy. He knew his boss all too well and had never seen him praise any youngster like this before.
When all sixty-four contestants were selected, Li Yao had already regained his composure.
After all, he had experienced too many game versions with reality’s cruelty, those brutal wars without any filters of virtual games, and he had seen too many bloodbaths to be affected by them anymore.
In reality, having adjusted his mindset, he no longer felt the previous suppression and tension. Although he wasn’t immune, at least it wouldn’t affect the subsequent competitions.
Out of the sixty-four contestants, there were three Earthlings: the one controlling the Azure Dragon with powerful firepower, another proficient in stealth and assassination piloting the Phantom Mech with Scorpio, and finally, Li Yao who qualified last with the Hunter Mech.
Among them, two major clans had four members each advancing: the Lizardmen and the Dark Elf Clan, skilled in mental manipulation.
The qualifying races, aside from humans, included the Giant Clan, Ogre Clan, and the Gold Lion members of the Beast Clan.
The rest were basically individuals or small groups; many races had already been eliminated, losing the chance to compete. However, there was nothing that could be done about it. Some races weren’t suited for the chaos of a 100-person melee, and it wasn’t that some races lacked strength, but rather they had bad luck. But a competition is a competition, and this was the quickest and safest method. There was nothing to complain about if skills were lacking.
The sixty-four competitors each received healing from a High Priest of an unknown race, bringing all their conditions to their peak.
Next was the lottery to decide the order of the matches, and the stadium below was divided into eight areas, each fairly large. Supported by current technology and magic, the terrain in the eight areas had been transformed into different states.
Some areas were deserts, some grasslands, some forests, mountains, Stone Forest, lava zones, swamps, and there was also one with bridges.
Eight groups would compete at the same time. Li Yao drew the fifth group, and his arena was the swamp.
“Azure Dragon is the first group in the Stone Forest. His opponent is an Ironskin; looks like a certain win,” the enchantress pointed to one of the arenas and said. Li Yao nodded and enlarged the screen showing their area to watch Azure Dragon’s match.
“Reports say the Ironskins are metal beings born from a special type of ore, not unlike the Mountain Giants. In their lore, their ancestors and creators are Aela, essentially Titan Giants. These Ironskins have copper heads and iron bones, almost immune to physical damage, and they can heal by absorbing minerals. Their weakness is rapid cooling after being heated, which can disintegrate their bodies.”
Feng Yi shared the information she had gathered: “From the records I have uncovered, our military’s first contact with the Ironskins twenty years ago was quite unpleasant. An outright war broke out; utilizing aerial superiority, our military bombarded one of their cities for three months straight, extinguishing a whole tribe. Only then did the other Ironskins wake up, leading to normal relations. They have mastered Crystal Technology, although not very advanced, they’ve gained a certain degree of control over transport and other magic skills.”
“Wow, you’ve even found sealed records. Feng Yi, you’re amazing,” the apprentice admired Feng Yi. To the general populace, Earthlings have peaceful exchanges with many races, but contact with every race wasn’t simple.
“Peace is fought for, or did you think they would let humans take charge so willingly?” Feng Yi laughed.
“This time our leader has even better odds, truly worthy of our guild’s intelligence officer. There’s no intelligence you can’t grasp,” the enchantress said with a smile.
Li Yao slightly shook his head; even though Feng Yi had had a falling-out with her family, her old connections remained. Many of her former friends held positions in key agencies, and it was too easy for her to access non-classified internal data.
The competition had already begun, and it was clear that Azure Dragon also had the Ironskins’ data. As soon as he entered, he bombarded the Ironskin, sending it flying chaotically, its body turning red-hot from the high temperature.
At a critical moment, Azure Dragon launched an Ice Blast. The Ironskin rapidly cooled, developing numerous cracks, and immediately conceded defeat.
The third group, Scorpio, ran into trouble. Her Mech excelled in stealth, assassination, and reconnaissance, but lacked firepower. This time, her opponent was a Giant, whose body was like rock, resembling a walking mountain, and he was even clad in dark, super Armor, like a steel fortress.
Scorpio couldn’t find a way to attack; even her Titanium Knife infused with energy couldn’t cut through the Giant’s thick Armor.
The Giant just folded his arms and let Scorpio attack, but she couldn’t break through his defense. Finally, with one punch, the Giant sent Scorpio’s Mecha flying. The Mecha’s energy Shield shattered instantly with alarms blaring as the Mech started to smoke. The General promptly declared forfeiture, and Scorpio withdrew unwillingly.
On the human side, there was disappointment, but they all knew Scorpio had given her all. She had encountered a complete counter and there was nothing that could be done about it…
