Miss Witch Doesn't Want to be a Diva -
Chapter 944 - 81: The Changing Candlelight
Ai Jieka Network, Council of Seven Sages Hall.
A stitched Puppet Bear with a Geb pattern sat on a chair, propping its head up deep in thought.
"Things are becoming complicated."
At this moment, aside from the bear, there were also a skeleton wearing the Crown of Wisdom and a monkey with fingers long and skeletal.
The Old Skeleton tapped the Bone Staff in his hand. "Ailu Kelu's personality is unpredictable. Out of all the Songstresses in Academy City, her actions are the most difficult to foresee."
"Who would have thought Hexia, that little girl, decided to tell her about this." The Long-handed Monkey tapped at the keyboard, scanning information on several young Songstresses.
"We locked the small ones away for their studies, and now a bigger problem pops up."
"I think we might as well call it quits." The Old Skeleton proposed.
"Throw a few puppets into the spotlight and make them think they've caught the culprits, then bring this matter to an end."
"We've already obtained the technical secrets of the 'Connectors,' and controlling those 'Connectors' further holds little significance now. With a few Songstresses already aware, it's only a matter of time before the Court of Judgment uncovers the truth about the 'Connectors' as well."
"Let me think..." The Puppet Bear didn't immediately reply.
"I'm indifferent. Frankly, if you'd listened to me and the 'Red Scimitar' from the start and wiped out all the 'Connectors,' we wouldn't be dealing with so much trouble now." The Long-handed Monkey leaned back in his chair, resting his head as he waved his hand dismissively.
Just as the three discussed whether they should withdraw, a flash of light occurred in a corner of the hall. The 'Red Scimitar' and 'Blue Masked Sparrow' entered in turn, now wielding the greatest authority following the disappearance of 'Hui Fangyan.'
After taking her seat, Blue Masked Sparrow glanced briefly at their respective positions before speaking.
"I already know the situation. It seems there's no easy way to wrap this matter up."
"With the involvement of Songstress Ailu Kelu, many of our methods can't curb the spread of the Connectors' secrets. Targeting her would only provoke greater retaliation." Her analysis was calm and deliberate.
"However, abandoning this matter entirely isn't an option."
"If we allow the Connectors' technology to spread unchecked, the future power dynamics will spin entirely out of control. The internal structure of the Federation will undergo drastic changes, none of which any of us can predict."
"I detest such a complete loss of control, as it equals surrendering the future to the unknown, a wholly passive position."
"But if Hexia and Ailu Kelu, those two Songstresses, genuinely perceive threats, and a total war is triggered as a result, what we'd face isn't the current petty skirmishes but full-scale conflict with the Court of Judgment and other official agencies." The Old Skeleton voiced his long-held concern, and beside him, the Puppet Bear nodded repeatedly.
There was widespread fear surrounding Songstresses, many afraid of being wholly opposed to such powerful forces and standing against the Federal Official entities.
Indeed, while they possessed certain techniques and maintained a good concealment, it didn't mean they were invincible. Should the Federal Official powers decide to retaliate by mobilizing millions, calling upon brilliant talents and boundless resources, even with the best of their hiding skills on the Ai Jieka Network, they might eventually be exposed. Moreover, the authorities could cut off interstellar Ai Jieka Network channels, erasing their space for existence at the very source.
Without the network's advantages, in reality, at best they were slightly stronger Transcendents, easily overwhelmed by a well-equipped strike team.
All of this had not transpired yet due to years of deliberate restraint in their activities, keeping their profile low. Even if a senator occasionally raised the issue at the Central Council, many dismissed it as baseless speculation, unwilling to expend such immense resources targeting this group.
Having listened to the concerns expressed by the Old Skeleton and Puppet Bear, Blue Masked Sparrow understood their fear. They were too intimidated by institutions like the Court of Judgment and the prospect of losing everything they already had.
Yes, the Court of Judgment was undeniably formidable and shrouded with mystery, seemingly omnipotent in the eyes of outsiders. But from her perspective, the Court of Judgment was far from flawless—its internal structure wasn't entirely unified. It had distinct factions and roles, and with enough investigation, one could discover that the majority of its focus and operations rarely prioritized matters related to the network. In reality, issues like mega-corporations and Star Domain separatism posed far greater risks and occupied far more attention.
Rather than standing entirely against the Court of Judgment, they only needed to neutralize a specific department, and within it, an even smaller subsection of individuals responsible for network oversight, to ensure their safety.
"Continue targeting Alanna, and as for Ailu Kelu, I will personally arrange for someone to intervene. You needn't concern yourselves with what happens next." Blue Masked Sparrow finalized the plan, delegating the responsibilities to the rest present.
Despite lingering unease, the Old Skeleton, Puppet Bear, and the others followed the plan as instructed.
Over the next few days, with Ailu Kelu's assistance, Alanna successfully regrouped the original members of the 'Z' team, while those threatening her, along with other involved individuals and organizations, were thoroughly eradicated by Ailu Kelu's people. This thorough cleanup left Ailu Kelu curious and excited, as though she'd discovered a new world.
"So there really are such mysterious organizations operating behind the scenes on the network, just like in games and movies." She sat in a chair reviewing the interrogation records from the past few days.
"So the 'Council of Seven Sages' really exists and serves as the origin of several network-based organizations." Beside Ailu Kelu, a fox-eared man folded his hands in admiration.
"What should we do next, Ailu Kelu? Should these findings be reported to the Court of Judgment?"
