Miss Witch Doesn't Want to be a Diva -
Chapter 915 - 71: Night View and Heart-to-Heart Talk on the Rooftop
After finishing the conversation, it was already evening.
"Zi Jin, are you heading back first?" Alanna suddenly asked.
"Are you going to take care of something?" Tilan knew Alanna must have a reason for asking this out of the blue.
"Yes, and I may need some help." The other person didn't hide her intentions.
"I can go with you." Even if she didn't necessarily need to step in, she could at least provide some support and make sure nothing unexpected happened to Alanna along the way.
"Thank you." Alanna expressed her gratitude.
The three of them then left the nursing home and headed to the location Alanna mentioned.
About 40 minutes later, they stopped at a small courtyard in a residential area. The surrounding night market was abuzz with activity.
After getting out of the car, Tilan patted the tall black lion next to her and looked toward the corner of the building ahead. Despite the dim lighting, she had already spotted Gen standing there.
Gen snuffed out the cigarette in his hand and walked over.
"You've finally arrived."
"How's it going? Did you find anything?" Alanna asked.
"Found some leads, but it might require a bit of force." He replied and glanced at Tilan and Suoga, who weren't fully in the loop, before explaining.
"Here's the deal. While you were looking for Sen earlier, I tracked down Duke. See, this guy here."
As he spoke, he opened a door and dragged out a thin young man from inside. The man was tied up, with tape over his mouth, unable to make a sound.
Seeing this, Alanna instinctively covered her eyes but didn't say much.
"Duke, tell the boss lady properly how you were coerced and ended up surrendering." Gen gave Duke a kick on the rear and then ripped off the tape.
"I had no choice! Boss Lady Alanna, I didn't mean to surrender; I was forced!" Upon seeing Alanna, he immediately wailed in despair.
Gen, as a Black Mercenary, terrified him to no end, but Alanna was much easier to talk to—gentler, even—and he was well aware of that.
"I understand. You must have your reasons. Don't worry, I'm not here to blame or take revenge on you." Alanna first soothed him, ensuring his emotions were under control.
"But you need to tell me everything—what happened to you, how they approached you, and what leverage they have on you."
"I... I..." Duke hesitated, but as Gen cracked his knuckles and took a step closer, his fear immediately resurfaced.
"I'll talk! I'll talk!"
"Here's what happened..." Duke began recalling the events of that day.
...
"So you were grabbed by a few burly men after work, dragged into a small room, threatened harshly, forced to leave fingerprint marks on a contract, and recorded on video and audio. They even warned you repeatedly, making you live in constant fear?" Alanna summarized.
Listening to this, Tilan couldn't help but feel like laughing. It sounded like a plot straight out of a TV drama. But for a regular person, this was certainly frightening enough.
She stroked the black lion beside her, ensuring it stayed quietly in the shadows and didn't move around, lest it scare the young man talking to Alanna.
"That's right." Duke nodded fervently and continued pleading for mercy.
"Do you have any leads on them? Who are they?"
"Well... there's one who might be from our group, but I didn't know him before." He suddenly remembered.
"Who?"
"He's not from this area. He's probably from Zone 7. I recall his general appearance. He must be one of the Connectors since, at the time, to quickly convince me, he demonstrated the same ability and cut off my methods of contacting anyone else." Duke recalled the man.
"Describe his appearance. I should've met most members of the group before, though I may not be familiar with all of them."
As the team had grown, even Alanna, the founder, couldn't claim to know every member personally. But she had at least seen most of them.
"I'll describe! He has deep black hair with a slight yellowish tint, green eyes, a face that looks a bit fierce, and when he smiles, his right cheek twitches unintentionally, which gives off a creepy vibe."
"This..." Alanna tried to recall but couldn't think of any member who matched the description. If Duke's description was accurate, such distinctive features should've left an impression.
"I don't remember this person." Suoga also shook his head.
"I think I recall something." Fortunately, Gen seemed to have remembered.
"He might be from the East District—one of 'Wild Wolf' As's men."
"As?" Alanna thought for a moment.
"If he's one of As's guys, it wouldn't be surprising." She sighed after saying that.
"'Wild Wolf' As is a well-known racer in the East District. Anyone who's into racing knows about him." Suoga explained to Tilan.
"Not only does he race, but he's also organized a group that holds racing events, attracting thrill-seeking young people. They charge admission fees while they're at it. Normally, someone like him wouldn't have any connection to us. But unfortunately, a new member discovered As happened to have Connector Talent and recklessly invited him. That's how information leaked."
"Later, he approached Alanna, expressing his willingness to join the 'Z' group, claiming to admire the rebellious spirit of the team."
How laid-back and careless, Tilan thought to herself. The fact that the 'Z' group had such loose management and yet hadn't collapsed was some kind of miracle. Perhaps it was because there wasn't much conflict of interest within the team earlier, so everything had remained relatively peaceful.
"At first, the boss lady disagreed. After all, As didn't have a good reputation; there had been rumors of him oppressing others. But he earnestly made his case several times, claiming to have changed his ways, and eventually, the boss lady began to relent."
