Chapter 139: Chapter 139 Lost Memory (3)_1
"Run, you little wench, keep on running?" The three of them were also gasping for breath, and as they saw Little Qianye fall to the ground, they surrounded her as they approached.
"I told you, once I catch you, I’m definitely going to flay your skin," the man who had been bitten by Little Qianye said fiercely as he grabbed her hand.
"Flay skin? That’s what I love the most."
A hoarse voice suddenly rang out, startling the three of them with a shiver.
"Who, who’s talking?"
A figure emerged from the forest ahead, and with its movements, the ground seemed to tremble. When they finally made out its appearance, the three of them were so frightened that they sat down on the ground, and Little Qianye also went limp with fear.
It was a monster over 5 meters tall, somewhat resembling an ape, with blood-red fur all over its body. Its face seemed to stick together, its features indistinguishable, except for a gaping blood-red mouth, sharp ears, and two pointed horns on its head. On each shoulder of the monster sat a person in white, one of which was the very one Dugu Qianye had seen at the Divine Temple Altar!
"Is that him?!" Dugu Qianye had been watching the events unfold from the sidelines with Jiang Yu and suddenly felt a chill course through her body as she saw the man, her voice trembling slightly.
"Who?" Jiang Yu asked.
"I saw him at the Divine Temple Altar during the day," Dugu Qianye tried to calm herself, trying not to let Little Qianye’s emotions affect her own.
One beast and two men gazed gleefully at the four little children on the ground while the monster continually licked its terrifying lips with its thick tongue.
"Tsk tsk, such tender little kids, feeding them to Huagui would be more nourishing than eating ten Phantom Beasts," Shi Jun said with an elegant laugh.
Shi Nan, who was the man Dugu Qianye had seen at the altar, said coldly, "Indeed, it’s not bad, but I wonder what Huagui will think of the taste."
"I’ll know once I eat them," Huagui said, its saliva already soaking the red fur on its chest.
The words of the two men terrified Little Qianye and her companions, causing two of them to faint right away, leaving only her and the one she had bitten still conscious.
"Girls are more nourishing, save her for last. Huagui, go," Shi Nan commanded, then jumped down from Huagui’s shoulder and stood aside with his arms crossed to watch.
Shi Jun also jumped down and joined Shi Nan, looking with interest at Huagui terrifying the pale-faced children. The warmth of his smile appeared so disconcertingly cold to the bone.
Huagui stepped forward, bypassing Little Qianye, and approached the three boys. It seemed to enjoy seeing the terror in people and didn’t choose the conscious boy as its first victim. Instead, it picked up one who had fainted, ripped off his clothes, lifted him into the air, and sliced his skin from neck to feet with its long, sharp claws. The boy woke up from the pain, saw his condition, and was so terrified that he died on the spot.
Soon, the boy’s skin was peeled off, leaving a bloody, mangled body. Huagui looked at the blood-red corpse in its hands, its eyes shining with excitement as it let out a loud cry and began to gnaw on the flesh. In less than two minutes, all that remained in its hands was a pile of bones.
The manner of death was so horrific that even Dugu Qianye, let alone Little Qianye, felt sick to their stomach. The people of the Divine Temple were truly depraved!
"Huagui’s skinning technique is getting better and better," Shi Jun remarked.
"Wasting time! The Hall Master sent us out to replenish Huagui’s power—we must complete the task quickly," Shi Nan said.
"What’s so great about Holy Sea City that you’re in such a hurry to get back? I want to enjoy myself out here longer," Shi Jun said. "Look how adorable their expressions of fear are. Where could you find such fun back home? There’s nothing much for us to do in the Divine Temple; too many people and too little work fall on us. So just keep wandering with me," he continued.
By now, Little Qianye was terrified, and the more she tried not to look, the more vividly she saw the cruel scene. She couldn’t make out what the people around her were saying, but she caught the words "Divine Temple."
The Divine Temple! The place revered by everyone!
After devouring one, Huagui, with blood dripping from its hands and mouth, its chest fur matted with blood, grabbed another boy and consumed him in the same brutal manner.
As Huagui was left with only a foot from the second victim, a scolding voice came from the sky: "How dare such a petty Ferocious Beast commit atrocities here!"
The voice shocked the two men and the beast, causing them to look up at the sky, only to see a blue Kylin hovering above! The sight of the Kylin, a symbol of justice and a mature one at that, immediately diminished Huagui’s ferocity. Shi Jun and Shi Nan hurriedly moved in front of Huagui, attempting to protect it. If anything happened to Huagui, their own lives would be forfeit. Even if the Hall Master pleaded for them, the Divine Master would not let them off!
The Kylin, seeing the bloodstains, two human skins, the unfinished foot, and the two terrified children, flared with anger. Opening its mouth, it unleashed a fireball toward Huagui. Shi Jun and Shi Nan desperately defended with their Phantom Power, but even two Phantom Emperors at their peak couldn’t withstand for long—they, along with the beast, were flipped violently to the ground and burnt beyond recognition. Shi Nan, landing beside the boy, threw him out in pain. While the Kylin caught the boy, he hastily retreated with Huagui in tow, along with Shi Jun, making a swift escape.
The Kylin transformed into a man to catch the boy, and upon returning, found that the people from the Divine Temple had already fled. He approached Little Qianye, picked her up, and set a fire that burnt the scattered bones and skins to ashes. Little Qianye, overwhelmed by the scent of burning flesh, finally couldn’t handle the ordeal and fainted.
In her dazed state, she seemed to see a teenage boy appear before her.
"There, that’s the memory buried deep in your mind," Jiang Yu said, taking Dugu Qianye out of the Phantom Realm.
Dugu Qianye had remembered what followed. When Little Qianye woke up, she found herself at the edge of the Cangmang Mountain, her subconscious having already forgotten the events she encountered there, still puzzled about how she could have ended up in such a place.
"What does the Divine Temple want with such a Ferocious Beast? And to feed it children in such a cruel manner, it’s just..." Dugu Qianye couldn’t fathom why the Divine Temple would keep a beast like Huagui.
Jiang Yu shrugged his shoulders, annoyingly said, "If you don’t know, I definitely don’t."
Dugu Qianye looked at Jiang Yu and asked, "Holy Sea City is so close to the Spiritual Mist Zone; you really have no idea what they’re up to?"
"Come on, I spend most of my time asleep, alright! I’m not always on the Xuanyue Continent, and even when I am, I don’t concern myself with what people on such a small island are up to!" Jiang Yu said disdainfully. He only came here to roam around; he wouldn’t bother learning about irrelevant matters. Besides, it had been hundreds of years since he last woke up.
Dugu Qianye sat down and thought of the Kylin, only to realize it was Ci Hun! And the boy must have been Zi Xiao. To think that back then, he and Ci Hun had already saved her life.
