Chapter 137: Chapter 137 Lost Memories (1)_1
By the time Dugu Qianye came out, a group of seven followed the directions given and found the restaurant. It was an inconspicuous little shop on the street corner, but by the time they arrived, it was already filled with people having breakfast. There was only one table left when they got there.
"This place is really doing great business!" The group took their seats and exclaimed.
"I’ve heard this is the best breakfast spot nearby," Ye Canglan said as she picked up the menu. "Redfish and Luo fruit porridge, sea cucumber fish porridge, fei whale fish slices... Huh, why have I never heard of these? How will we know what’s good?"
"Who cares if we’ve heard of them or not," Dan Jingtian, who had been salivating as Ye Canglan read the menu, hollered at the busy little Xiao’er, "Xiao’er, Xiao’er, bring us the best breakfast item you have, one portion for each of us to start with."
"Alright, please wait a moment!"
Xiao’er efficiently served them breakfast and was returning to his work when he saw another person entering the shop. Recognizing the individual, he hurriedly went to greet him, saying, "Master Niu, you’ve come?"
"Mhm, the usual," Master Niu replied as he walked inside.
"Yo, Master Niu, I’m sorry, but there are no seats left," Xiao’er said with a smile, "Would you mind waiting a while?"
The breakfast guests were either somebodies in the Divine Temple or relatives of people who were, so he couldn’t just ask anyone to leave.
"What? Why are there so many people today?" Master Niu said, scanning the full room. Suddenly, his gaze landed on a figure he despised.
"Baili Xie!" Master Niu shouted toward the corner where someone was waiting for their meal, "You actually dared to come here!"
Dugu Qianye was eating and chatting with Mo Ziqing and the others when she suddenly heard someone calling her. Turning around, she was astonished to find it was none other than Master Niu, whom she had sent flying back in Ye City! She expected to run into him in Holy Sea City, but to encounter him on just her second day was an unlucky coincidence!
"Who is that?" Dan Jingtian asked.
"That’s the Master Niu with whom I made an enemy back in Ye City!" Dugu Qianye glanced at Master Niu and turned back to continue her breakfast, adding, "This porridge does taste really good."
Seeing Dugu Qianye ignoring him, Master Niu was extremely agitated. He rushed up to their table, pointing at Dugu Qianye and said, "I didn’t expect you to actually have the gall to come here. It seems you’re fully prepared to die!"
Dugu Qianye wiped her mouth with a napkin, then retorted, "Master something or other, have you forgotten how you were sent flying last time? You still come here now, I must say you’ve got quite the nerve. It seems you’re ready to take another flight." As she spoke, she also called Xiaojiu out.
"Hahaha—"
Hearing Dugu Qianye’s words, the other people in the restaurant burst into laughter. This Master Niu, relying on the fact that he was Niu Yan’s brother and an alchemist, acted all high and mighty usually, condescending and sarcastic to everyone. Because of Niu Yan’s protective nature, people generally kept their distance from Master Niu and some even despised him. Today, they relished seeing him publicly humiliated, and even took a liking to Dugu Qianye’s brazen demeanor.
"You, you..." Master Niu spat blood from anger provoked by Dugu Qianye’s words, but the sight of Xiaojiu staring at him maliciously reminded him of the last time he had been kicked away. Having heard that Baili Xie would dare to do anything, he truly feared she might give him a thorough thrashing.
"Just you wait. My brother will be back tomorrow. Let’s see how arrogant you’ll be then!" Knowing when to fold, Master Niu threw down his fierce words and fled in a panic under the intimidating glare of Xiaojiu’s fiery eyes.
"Brother, are you just going to let him go like that?" Dan Jingtian looked at Dugu Qianye and said, "At the very least, you could’ve beaten him up to make him avoid you whenever he sees you in the future!"
"His brother is a disciple of the Rain Hall Master, the Young Hall Master of Rain Hall. The people from Rain Hall are the ones supposed to show us around today," Dugu Qianye paused before adding, "We’ve just arrived in Holy Sea City, it’s probably best not to draw too much attention to ourselves."
"Hey, I thought you were scared of that Niu Yan guy," Dan Jingtian joked, "But do you call this laying low?"
Dugu Qianye was at a loss for words at Dan Jingtian’s comment. Uh, doesn’t this count as being low-profile?
After breakfast, they returned not long before the carriage sent by Rain Hall arrived. Each carriage was drawn by four Holy Beasts, the Snow Wolves, made of white wood. Instead of walls, white gauze curtains hung around, which could be drawn back to reveal the surrounding scenery. Inside were rows of seats that could accommodate 15 people. Dugu Qianye looked at them and was reminded of tour buses he had seen in the secular world of his former life.
In four rounds, they transported students from the four great Empires, starting their tour around the city, with someone on each carriage explaining the significance of different places.
It had to be said, Holy Sea City truly was vast. Even with the carriage, they spent a whole day visiting the main areas of the city, albeit only getting a brief glimpse of each.
Divided into four regions—east, south, west, and north—the city corresponded with the Wind Temple, Rain Hall, Thunder Temple, and Fire Temple, each having its own center and living area. Encompassing the center of Holy Sea City, surrounded by the four temples, were two large structures: the grand hall where the Divine Temple Master of Shen Xingzong resided, and the most sacred altar of the Divine Temple.
The altar wasn’t large, a circular structure with a radius of a hundred meters, divided into three levels, with staircases at eight different points leading up. Around each level, set one meter apart, stood two-meter-tall pillars, and at the very top, in the center of the highest level, were two ten-meter-tall pillars. In contrast to the altar’s white motif, these two pillars were black, with a dense and viscous appearance.
As the group reached the altar, Dugu Qianye felt a strong revulsion looking at those two pillars; it was as if two evil eyes were glaring at him unrelentingly!
"The altar is located at the very center of Holy Sea City, equidistant from the Wind, Rain, Thunder, and Fire Temples. The altar is where we usually conduct ceremonial rites for the Divine Master. The energy of faith is collected by those pillars and transmitted to the Divine Master through the two divine columns at the top of the altar..."
"Sister, those pillars give off an evil vibe," Xiaohuo, perched on Dugu Qianye’s shoulder, transmitted to her while looking at the pillars on the altar.
"You sense it too?" Dugu Qianye asked.
"Yes. My Golden Fire burns away all darkness, and it reacts when I see those pillars," Xiaohuo spoke.
Dugu Qianye turned her gaze back to the altar and suddenly noticed a figure flashing past atop it. Although the movement was swift, she still caught a glimpse of his face—a face that seemed ordinary, but it sent chills down her spine!
She was certain; she had never seen this person before! So her reaction must be that of her original self. What exactly happened to make Little Qianye react like this even after her departure? Could it be related to that person she had just seen? Dugu Qianye looked towards the altar and subconsciously touched the skeleton earring on her right ear.
