Chapter 79: Pick Up The Phone

Although triumphant after slaying all the foes that crossed her path in the Corridor of Death, Miho was cautious before entering President Ryu’s office, especially so because once we approached the door it seemed there was no one in the room from what we could see from the outside.

"Stay back."

Miho whispered into my ear while quickly trying to judge the situation. It certainly couldn’t be the case that there was nobody inside, so the only logical explanation was that they were set up to ambush Tiger when she walked in. I thought perhaps this presented us with an even more difficult challenge than what she had pulled through so far, but nevertheless, it was the nature of the job that she had to walk into the trap even if she knew it was a trap.

Then as if she thought of something, she gestured for me to back off all the way to the other end of the corridor, so I duly obliged. She fell back together with me, then picked out the hammer and the bicycle chain from the first five guys that she destroyed. She wrapped around the chain on the handle of the hammer and made an impromptu hammer-mace. She then made a sign that I should stay back and slowly walked toward the open door of the office again and announced.

"I’m coming in."

What the hell?

And just as she finished her last word, she threw in the hammer-mace past the door and swung it to the right side, which made a blunt thud sound and led to a man’s scream. Then I saw a man fall to the ground with his head peeking out of the door frame. Miho quickly wrapped the chain around his neck and pulled him back to the corridor, which he was powerless to resist as the chain dug into his neck and started to choke him.

Maybe it was a bit too predictable there would be at least one man hiding on either side of the door ready to cut through whoever came in, so it wasn’t a bad bet for her to hammer that camper. Why did he bring him out though? And how was she going to handle everyone else inside who’d now be super alert?

With the chain still wrapping around and choking the man’s neck on the ground, Miho untied the hammer and used it to slam the man’s rib without hesitation. The poor man howled like a dog kicked on its ribs.

But that wasn’t enough.

Miho lifted the hammer again and smashed the man’s knee, which led to another scream. Then she hammered his balls, his wrist, ankle, collarbone - everywhere that could break and cause immense pain but without killing the person.

Screams of pain turned into screams of fear, then whimper, and when Miho started to hammer through each joint, the man finally broke down in more than one way.

"STOP! STOP!! HELP!! HEEEELP!!! BOSS! PLEASE!!!"

My stomach turned as I saw Miho work her devious magic on the man, and there came multiple shouting and cussing from the men inside the room at Miho, although they still did not show themselves.

Then Miho started to laugh uncontrollably.

"BWAAHAHAHAHAHA!"

She was now smashing the man’s mouth with a hammer, breaking his cheekbone, and jaws, and with each hit, her laughter got louder like this was the most fun she’d ever had in her life.

"YOU FUCKING BITCH!!!"

"NO DON’T!!!"

Finally, someone jumped out to the corridor, a bulky man with a sledgehammer swinging straight down at Miho, but the enraged man was too clumsy for the manic predator with her agility. She effortlessly dodged the hammer and before he could lift it up again, she used the hammer on his left kneecap. Despite the enormous strength by the look of his arms, he simply couldn’t lift the sledgehammer faster than Miho could move. His knee naturally gave way and the big man fell to the ground, and Miho started to do her routine on him with the hammer again.

"HAHAHAHA! FUCKING IDIOTS! YOU FUCKING IDIOTS!!!"

"WE’LL KILL YOU!!!" Someone from inside shouted.

"Come and get me, MOTHERFUCKER! HAHAHAHA!"

But no one came out this time and Miho spared no bones from the big man, who also started to wail and call for help.

"You fucking pussies! I’ll come in and break you all! Hahaha!"

This Miho was the cruelest version I’ve ever seen. I never thought I’d enjoy seeing people get stabbed and slashed, the hammering was so brutal that I wished she’d have just stabbed them to death quickly.

There was almost solemn silence on the whole floor now, minus Miho’s manic laughter and the men’s screaming.

After almost another full minute of hammering, Miho got up and giggled.

"Hehe... He.. Hehehehe."

She then picked up the sledgehammer from the ground with a loud grunt and made another grand announcement.

"I’m coming in! Don’t stand by the door!"

With that, after giving them a second to move away, she moved inside the room just half a step or so and gave a full swing to the right side and another full swing to the left side. Thankfully everyone listened and nobody was standing by the door anymore it seemed, judging by the lack of screaming.

As soon as she was done with that Miho dropped the hammer, hopped onto the upper ledge of the door frame, swung her body forward once and back once as if she was doing gymnastics on bars, and launched herself into the room through the air, landing right on the desk.

Once she was fully inside the room and crouched on the desk, I saw multiple men jump on her with various weapons that flashed past too fast for me to clearly identify, and my heart pounded with every swing and stab of knives and whatnot that targeted Miho.

She no longer dodged them gracefully, but with a cat like reflexes and deafening roar, she jumped, rolled, kicked, punched, cut, stab, and pushed them back with an aura that instilled pure fear in the hearts of these men who probably feared nothing until today.

I could see everything happening only through the open door, and what followed was a total chaos. She would disappear out of my view to one side of the room and I’d hear screams of a man. Then she’d reappear and disappear from my view again, and another sets of screams came around the corners I couldn’t see. It was a surreal experience, almost like watching a slaughter film through a door frame.

Completely entranced, I couldn’t quite tell how much time had passed, but things started to quieten down bit by bit until there was no more sound coming out of President Ryu’s office and Miho emerged out of it holding a katana that wasn’t hers.

"Come in now."

She waved to me standing by the door, so with my legs shivering like a baby deer, I stumbled my way through the Corridor of Death and into the slaughter room.

Once I entered the room, despite my best judgment, I looked around and immediately threw up.

There were bodies.

Broken bodies. Slashed bodies.

Bodies covered in blood. Bodies baring bones.

Dead. Dead bodies.

"Come out."

Miho ordered toward the desk, and finally, a man who must be President Ryu got out from under the desk with his two hands held up high in the air.

"You are making a grave mista-"

"I don’t give a fuck."

Miho lunged forward and with a big swing of a long katana, she swiftly decapitated the President.

Blood shot out from his severed neck like a grass sprinkler on a hot summer day until the body fell too.

"It’s over now, Sohee. We’ve done it! Yipee!"

Miho put the katana on the table and punched the air with her blood-dripping fist like a girl who just completed a race - and won.

I was too in shock to say anything and my mind was completely blank at the carnage that I had just witnessed I didn’t realize how much I was shaking until Miho snapped me out of it.

"Hey, let’s look for that exit tunnel!"

Oh yeah.

We better get out of here.

Fast.

Miho and I frantically searched for an opening, moving the couches away from the wall, taking off picture frames, and feeling the surface of the wall behind the desk to see if there was any sort of hidden switch - but all to no avail.

"This is odd. The old man said-"

Just as Miho was starting to look puzzled and scratching the back of her head, a phone on the desk started to ring.

"Eh? Landline? Who still uses that?"

Miho asked, tilting her head to a side in the curiosity of a cat.

"I guess you might as well pick up the phone." Tiger shrugged.

My mind was so numb at this point I walked to the phone and picked it up automatically.

"JJ Systems. How may I help you?"

"Well done, Ms. Han." It was Shin.

"Where... where is the exit?"

"There is no exit."

My heart sank right down to the floor.

"Wha-, what do you mean?"

"Don’t worry. Detective Choi is here. Just as you wanted, Ms. Han. Either he will save you or Tiger will escort you out"

If my heart was still in my chest it would have exploded through my ribcage, but it wasn’t.
