Melting Her Cold Heart
Chapter 77. Julliette

Chapter 77: 77. Julliette

At Amberfell airport,

Nicholas alighted. He moved with quiet grace. His expression was a bit complicated, but his gaze was steady along with his steps. Mr. North walked beside, and the duo drew quite the attention to themselves, albeit not what they wanted. Exiting a private jet also contributed to the curiosity in the eyes of those who saw them as they tried to put a name to the face.

"Welcome, Elder Legend," the driver who had been waiting for their arrival freeted with a respectful bow.

"How has things been here while I was away?" Nicholas asked. He has been awat for barely a day, but the way he asked that question, it was as if he had been gone for a long time.

"Everything is perfect, sir. Just as they wete before you left," the driver replied politely, and Nicholas nodded his head. "This way, sir," he led them to the car thay had been parked bait far from the entrance.

While inside the car, Nicholas was the same as he was throughout the flight. He was silent. Too silent. Even for a man whi didn’t talk much. His expression was hard to read and his gaze appear distant. But none of tye other two men dared to ask him what bothered him.

Nucholas was still reflecting on his encounter with Trevor. Every second of his stay at tye Goldmans, Nicholas couod see just how close the grave Trevor was and how despreatl6 he was trying to make thing right before he finally left this world. In a month ans three weeks, it would Juliette’s memorial. He remembered what Williams had come to discuss with hom just a while back and he realized that he also needed to fix some things.

He needed to let go of the past. The grudges, anger and pain along with his hatred towards the Crawfords. More specifically, Williams. He would have too much to regret if he was to suddenly die without fixing the relationship between them. His daughter once loved that man and now now his grandson has that man’s blood running through his veins.

Thinking of it now, Trevor and Williams had similar stories but with different endings. Same as Shelly and his daughter Juliette. They loved men much older than them and they died before the men. Both tragically. Murdered by those who were jealous and stand it.

"Julliette..." Nicholas uttered his daughter’s name. His mind almost caved in as tye memories of how she died returned to his mind. It was vivid as if it had only happened recently.

Mr North heard the Nicholas called and he began to worry. Turning around, he found Nicholas searching through his phone and he didn’t need to be a genius to know what the man was looking for. "Drive a bit faster," he said in a low voice to the driver. If Nicholas was to experience one of his memtdowns, they needed to get him home before that.

"I am sorry," Nicholas whispered. He had always blamed himslef for allowing her to marry a man who had lost his wife but he also knew he couldn’t stop her. His thumb caressed her photo on his phone’s screen as if he was touching the actual peraon.

Thirty three years ago...

A nurse walked into the ward with a tray in hand, rhe necessary medications all set accordingly. Her steps were neither hurried nor slow. Getting to a room, she stopped, inside was the dean of the hospital talking to a man trying to encourage him to move on became his grief was affecting his health.

Although the door was already partly open, she knocked ans walked inside. She greeted the dean and offered a warm smile to tye patient on the bed. An IV drip was strapped to his left arm, his eyes were almost lifeless, not even looking at the dean speaking to him it was obvious that his ears were also far from whatever was being said to him.

The dean sighed when he noticed that aleveeything he said didn’t go anywhere near the man’s ears. "I will leave him to you now, Julliette," the dean said before giving one last glance at the patient and the walked out of the room.

"You were a lot better the last time I saw you, Mr Crawford. Did something happen?" Julliettte asked.

His head snapped in her direction the moment he heard her talking to him. The blankness in his gaze slowly dissipated and and a ghost of a small appeared on his lips, barely noticeable.

"Why don’t you tell me about it? You can’t keep everything bottled up inside you," she suggested when he didn’t reply but hus silence gave it away. "She placed the trau with the medicine on a nearby stool pulling it closer to the bed. She then poured out a cup of water, helped him sit and then handed it to him.

"Is that part of job description?" Williams had asked and she smiled. He took the glass of water from her, holding between his two hands. "Don’t you think you are closing tye boundaries of professionalism?"

"Maybe I am," Julliette replied and he raised a brow at her but she shrugged. "It is still up to you to decide whether to fell me or not. Besides, as a nurse, it is much duty to make sure that the patients gets tye best treatment. One that suits them and in your case, it is more of an emotional treatment than anything else," she said and he chuckled, amused by hiw she had said it even though it was true.

"You think you can help me with that?" He asked and she shrugged.

"I can’t say for certain. But I’ll try. I am not an emotional expert or a psychologist but I can give it a try. Who knows, I might be the right person for you to talk to."

She had said those words not k owing that she would end up entangled with him after that moment. She became the one person he was always expecting to see and whenever she was off duty, he became hollow again, plagued with grief.

Everyday she would come to check on even when she wasn’t supposed to because she was afraid he would break down again if no one was watching him. His children would come by sometimes and even a nanny to watch over him, but she had come to realize that he was always much better when it was her.

"Hello Mr Crawford," Julliette said as she walked in to check on him. Her usual polite smile that wasn’t just professional but also genuine never left her lips as she approached him.

Williams returned her smile with one of equal value.

"How do you feel today?" Juliette had asked even before he could speak.

"Better lately but much more now that you are here," he said. Jullietye chuckled because he was suddenly fond of saying such words to her. The first time he said such words, she had found it hard to even keep her cool and the awkwardness between them was so tense that she feared she wouldn’t be able to face him again. He didn’t even apologize for saying something like that and that was when she realized he didn’t say it accidentally.

"Happy to hear that you are doing perfect, Mr Crawford," she said as she took his hand to examine him. He allowed her to touch him as much as necessary. Deep down she also knew he wouldn’t stop her even if decided to cross the line but she never dared to.

"I have told you to just call me Williams. It would sound much better that way," he said but there was no force or a hint of annoyance in his tone.

"That wouldn’t be right, Mr Crawford. Not only are you my senior, you are also my patient," she had politely refuted him and he smiled with a nod.

"Someone once said it is her duty to make sure the patient receives the best treatment for them and mine is more of emotional treatment than anything else," he said and she pouted. He smiled seeing her reaction. "Hearing you call my name would make me happy, Julliette," he said using her first name this time. His eyes locked with hers.

"Mr. Crawford..."

"Please, Julliette," he said, not allowing her to give reasons for refusing to. He held her hand in his. His hold, firm but gentle.

"Very well then, Williams," she said and he beamed. She could have sworn that was the brightest smile she had seen on him.

"Thank you," he said. Julliette found her heart skipping at the sight of his smile and the words of gratitude as well as the happiness she saw in his eyes.
