Melting Her Cold Heart -
Chapter 75. His Silence
Chapter 75: 75. His Silence
After spending the evening with her friends, she returned to their shared room after they left. The thought of changing rooms crossed her mind, but she couldn’t ask him unless he returned to the room.
Sara stared outside the window and frowned. The sun had Ling set, and the moon now hung beautifully in the sky. The stars were sparsely distributed across it, but it was still a sight to see. But Sara couldn’t help frowning.
She had long returned to the room, had a bath, and changed into her nightgown. The time was already late, and for the little time she had spent waiting for him, he would have returned by now.
"Is he having an all-nighter?" she wondered. It makes seeing as he had just signed and taken responsibility for another company with multiple branches. Because of that, she didn’t dwell on it. He’ll come to bed eventually. But another thing crossed her mind, "He didn’t come for dinner."
Sara’s frown deepened, but she steeled herself and climbed on the bed to sleep.
But as the clock ticked, seconds passed, minutes and then hours, he never showed up, and it was already 1:00 Am. She was still unable to sleep, and he was yet to come to bed. Sara sat up, pulled the cover off of her body, and decided to go check on him. No matter how busy he was, he still needed to rest his body. He was busy throughout their time in the office.
The lights were out, and darkness welcomed as soon as she stepped out of the bedroom, but she didn’t stop and made her way to study. The silence indicated that the servants had either returned home or asleep in their quarters.
Reaching the study, the door was locked, and there was light coming from inside, causing a bigger front to appear between her brows. Did he go out? She didn’t think so. She never heard a car leave the premises.
"Alex, it’s me," she knocked, but there was no response.
"Alex.." She knocked again, even more uncertain that he would reply to her. As the minutes went by without him replying to her as an indication that he was inside, she assumed he was either asleep inside or had left without her noticing. After all, her mind was quite clouded the whole time.
She then returned to the room after giving one last glance at the study door.
Meanwhile, standing a little farther away from her in a black robe, Alex watched her walk into the room and looked at the door as he leaned on the wall.
He had heard her the moment she left the room and walked down that halted and even took the stairs to the second floor to get to the study, but he didn’t approach her. Not even while she was knocking. She must have thought many things about why he didn’t respond to her, but he could live with that for now.
He needed her to know and realize what she truly wanted. He would give her the space she wanted. He won’t pester her or take any more advances on her. She would have to figure it out on her own.
If they felt the same way—If their past relationship was destined to sail once again, then it would. But it’ll not. It will sink once and for all, and he’ll know he has no chance with her.
He walked back to the room he was before he followed her.
"I thought I was prepared to face your indifference, Sara, but I was wrong," he mumbled as he ran his fingers through his hair. "It hurts so bad. It stings, and I don’t know how much longer I will have to bear this," he sighed and plopped down on the bed.

As the sun appeared in the sky, Sara was up but was barely able to sleep throughout the night, only managing to catch some Zs just before sunrise.
She made her way to the dining room where her breakfast was already set for her. She sat but then noticed the absence of Alex at the table again.
"Uhm...Mrs Lawson," she called, and the woman was by her side in no time.
"You called for me, Miss," Mrs Lawsok answered. Her stance honste but Sara noticed the oddity in the way she referred to her.
Miss. Not Madam as she usually would.
"Why is it only mine? What about Alex? Isn’t he having his breakfast too?" She asked, ignoring the way the woman addressed her.
Mrs Lawson smiled knowingly. She knew the couple must be having a fight thr moment she saw Alex come out of a different room and left without her earlier. "No. The Young Master already left early this morning. But he said you should have your breakfast before you leave," she replied but that didnt ease Sara at all.
"Did he sleep..." she trailed nit wanting to ask more and risk letting everyone know that she and Alex didny share a room. That is of course if he really didn’t leave the house last night. "Thank you, you can go now,’she said instead and the woman nodded, bowed respectfully and left.
The food tasted bland in her mouth as she ate. It wasn’t long before she lost her appetite and she had only eaten a little. Sara stared at the food which she knew without wasprepared to her taste but she couldn’t taste it the same way she used too even though they were all her favorite.
’He is keeping his distance from me after all,’ she thought, her saliva tasting bitter on her tongue. She stood up and left for the office. In a few minutes, she would definitely be late. Who knows what an angry Alex would do?
As soon as she left, Mrs Lawson took note of the food and frowned. "She barely touched a thing!" She couldn’t praying Tay whatever happened between them to be resolved as soon as possible. It was affecting them bit negatively.

At the office, Sara walked through the door feeling the eyes of the ither employees on her. She could hear muffled vlsound from them but no one dared to speak to her, too afraid of losing their jobs.
Sara made it up to the president’s floor and went to her cubicle to drop her bag before going to greet Alex with his coffee. Hopefully, she was too late tondonthay either as it would give her a reason to strike a conversation.
Knocking lightly, she pushed the door and entered after a being permitted to. With the coffee in hand, she walked towards the table but stopped as awkwardness enveloped her.
There on the table was a cup of coffee. She could still see the steam oozing out of it. Sara took a deep and pressed ahead. She was already and couldn’t turn back now.
"AL...Mr Legend," she said now standing in front of him. She watched his expression closely but nothing changed. Although he hand paused for a while before he raised his raised his head to look at her, aside that, there was nothing else.
"Kai already got my coffee today, Miss Ambrose. You didnt have to," his tone was calm and professional wilhuch stuff her heart and the way he said it as if she should have know about it already hut her differently when he knew she had just arrived.
"I...I.. didn’t... I’ll take this back then," she said an she frowned when he nodded his head. "I’ll be in my cubicle."
Sara left under his watchful gaze. Once she closed the door, Alex sighed and massaged his temple. He could see the hurt in her expression but he could stop now although her was never his intention.
Sara returned to her cubicle with the coffee feeling dejected but tried her hardest to focus on the day and work ahead and not worry about his silent treatment.
"This was what you wanted right? Sara? You got it now. Leave him be. Don’t think about him again," she tried to gain her confidence back.
**
"What did you do to her, Alex?" Kai walked in an asked. He was surprised why Alex had asked him to bring his coffee and at hiw early he was today but this just cut the cake. Sara leaving his office looking down and gloomy.
"I didnt do anything," Alex replied but Kai didn’t believe him. "Do you believe that I would hurt her? That I would say or do something intentionally to hurt her?
"Alex..?" Kai didn’t know how to respond to that because he was right, he wouldn’t do anything to hurt her. He could hurt every sound in the world but her.
