Melting Her Cold Heart
Chapter 71. His wish

Chapter 71: 71. His wish

Nicholas never once took his eyes off Trevor as he spoke. From his quivering lips and betraying how much of a shock he received from knowing his daughter would have been killed without his knowledge. To his clenched fists and the blood that dripped from his hand were the candela fixed.

His voice was cold and detached, and his expression twisted into a scowl. His pale features had him looking more grim than intended. Nicholas was not at all surprised when Trevor threw away his family to protect his daughter. If Nicholas had the chance, he wouldn’t hesitate to do that. The death of his own child still clung heavily to him till this day.

Then Trevor spoke again, the coldness in his tone easing up, but just a little.

"And as for the Scott boy..." the intensity of his gaze softened a little. "There isn’t much thay I can do in my current condition. I had agreed to the marriage because I thought that only that would she be safe when she finally comes home," marriage with the Scotts was his attempt at keeping her safe from the power struggles within the family. It would have helped solidified her position in the family the same way Scott would have also benefited.

A marriage of convenience. A business alliance to foster the growth and cement the relationship of the two families.

"I shouldn’t have agreed to it, but I had very little options to pick, Nicholas," Trevor said, and Nicholas nodded in understanding.

"You still have your voice and still breathe. There must be something that you can do about it," Nicholas said. As much as a clash between Alex and Dane was inevitable, having the marriage alliance called off would help greatly. "Have tue marriage called off. Sara would not appreciate knowing she was tied to a man she never knew."

Trevor nodded weakly. All he wants now was to see her for the first time. To apologize to her for all that had gone wrong in her life and maybe...just maybe, he would also be able to forgive himself.

"I will see what I can do," Trevor agreed, his tone resigned but with a determination that Nicholas could hold on to. "Can I ask you for a favor, old friend?" He asked.

"Mhm," Nicholas nodded. Somehow, Trevor sounds as if he was making his dying wish, and Nicholas couldn’t bring himself to refuse him.

"I want to see her," Trevor said weakly. "She doesn’t have to acknowledge my family as her own or even me. I just want to see her. Commut her face to memory before I breathe my last. Can you do that for me?" There was so much raw emotion in his voice as he spoke, and it was obvious he was holding back his tears from spilling.

"I have her picture, if that would be of any help," Nicholas said as he turned to look at Albert, who fished out the man’s phone from his pocket and handed it to him. "I can not say I be able to bring her to you. Or if she would even agree to. But I’ll try to convince her," he said, knowing that seeing a picture was nothing compared to meeting the actual person. Holding them and feeling the warmth of the presence.

Trevor nodded in understanding. "I appreciate your help," he said as he raised his eyes to the screen of the phone Nicholas held up to his face.

His eyes softened when he saw the picture of the woman on the screen, heart swirling with emotions too much to contain. Weakly, his right hand rose as he tried to take the phone from Nicholas.

"She looks jusy like her," he said with a small, sad smile playing on his lips. His regret knew no bounds, but there was nothing he could do about it now. "Thank you, Nicholas," his eyes never left the picture.

"Mhm," Nucholas gave a hum. "I will have her pictures sent to you. It is the least I can do," he stood up, and Trevir returned tye phone with a grateful smile. "I hope you won’t get hurt when I put your family in place for hurting my granddaughter-in-law," Trevir immediately shook his head. "Very well then, rest well.... Don’t die just yet."

He gave the phone back to Albert, who, without hesitation, had the pictures sent to Mr Wentworth.

"Keep her safe for me and thank your little boy for protecting her," Trevor said as Nicholas and Albert prepared to leave.

"I’ll be to..."

A knock on the door had Nicholas stopping, and they all turned to the door that was pushed open even without receiving the permission to enter, and in came a woman in her late sixties. He black hair that now had more silver than she would like was neatly styled. Her lips wore a charming smile. Had she been younger, then that smile would have been able to bewitch any man.

But unlike her, with a charming smile, the men starrf at her with a distinct aloofness that had her smile freezing for a moment before she strutted in, masking her shock behind a perfectly practiced smile.

"I didn’t know you had guest, Trevor," she said, coming to stand beside the bed. Her aged eyes stared at the man standing closest to her husband and knew he was not a simple man.

"We were just leaving," Nicholas said. He gave a nod to Trevor and turned to leave, and the woman’s brows pulled into a deep furrow.

"Why don’t you stay for dinner...?" She said but received a sharp glare from Nicholas that silenced her immediate.

"Elena," Trevor called. Whipping her head around to look at Trevor, she pouted lightly, but his expression remained indifferent, and his eyes still glared at her.

He didn’t say anything again, and she knew her name was all that she would get from him along with his hurt glares.

"take care, Nicholas, and know that i meant what I said," Trevor looked away from and said, and Nicholas hummed and gave a nod of his head. Mr Wentworth opened the door for them and went ahead to see them out.

"Who was that? I have never seen him before?" Elena Goldman asked, but her questions were ignored as Trevor closed his eyes. He looked like he had lost all the strength in his body and could no longer speak.

Elena saw him like that and glared sharply at him. The cool demeanor from earlier had disappeared without a trace.
