Chapter 52: 52. It’s the Goldmans, right?
Jessa drove her car to a stop in front of the gate as the security came to check her identity and confirm with those inside. Her eyes never left the building, although she communicated with a security man speaking to her. She wore a frown on her face, but her words remained polite.
"You can go in Ms Winters," the security said after communicating with someone inside the house.
Jessa gave him a polite nod before driving in. Once she parked the car, she made her way inside under the guidance of a middle-aged woman.
"The Young Master is this way, Ms. Winters," the woman led to a closed door, and she knocked. A soft hum was heard from within, and she pushed open the door, revealing that face if aan whom she has only met once but has heard a little about and has all the reason to be wary of. "I have brought Ms. Winters, Young Master," the woman said with a respectful nod.
Jessa stared in incredulity at the man who owned the property she was in. He was a bigshot she knew that, but still....
As much as she wondered why he had Sara at his place, it also made perfect sense. Why? Jessa couldn’t say.
"Mr Legend," she stepped inside before he could direct his attention to her. She was here for her friend and until she was certain that she was fine and in one piece. Alive. She wouldn’t relax a bit even if it were the president standing in front of her and promising her friend’s safety. "Where is Sara?" She asked, and he raised a brow.
"She is the reason I am here, sir. Could you take me to her?" Jessa added without any hesitation in her tone. The finality is it didn’t give room for anyone to argue or oppose, but she doubted thay would work for the man seated in front of her, gently tapping a pen on the desk and deep in thought.
"Have a seat, Ms. Winters l,’ he offered, but she didn’t move an inch. Alex sighed. The woman was truly a stubborn one but also a true friend what she had displayed so far. "She is asleep at the moment, and you’ll have to wait a bit longer," he informed her and saw as her shoulder visibly relaxed a bit.
"But I can still see her while she sleeps," Jessa argued, and he nodded but made no attempts to move from his current position. "So why can’t I, Mr Legend?"
"She is not the state to receive visitors, Ms Winters. I expect your understanding," he said as calmly as he could, but she furrowed in suspicion. Alex sighed and stood up. "Come with me," he said and walked past her, leaving to run after him.
They went up to the bedroom Sara was currently in. Jessa didn’t even take the liberty to look around as her eyes zeroed in on the woman lying on the bed. As they approach the bed, deep creases form between their brows, and before Jessa would know it, Alex was already beside the bed, staring at Sara with deep concern and worry.
Tears stained her cheeks and her body trembling like a leaf on a windy day. This sight didn’t only cut through Alex but also Jessa, who had never seen her friend like this before.
"It’s okay," Alex whispered, his right hand gently wiping off the tears on her cheeks, and his left held her hand as if to give his strength to her.
Jessa now understood why he said she was not in the state to meet visitors. She stopped and stood rooted a few feet away and couldn’t bring herself any closer than that. Her outstretched arm trembled at the sight of her friend, and she felt her heart bleed.
"She died because of me..." they heard Sara say in a light whisper, but the silent room was able to carry her voice to their ears. "...it’s all my fault."
Alex froze upon hearing that. He didn’t need to have it spelled out or explained to immediately understand why she was talking about it. Of all the memories from this past, why this one?
Meanwhile, Jessa didn’t understand what she meant and thought it must be something that recently.
"No, it’s not. That was never your fault, darling. Remember that," he said in a soft tone, but she shook her head. Alex sat beside her while she sat up still.unaware of the other presence in the room.
"Th...they. wanted to kill me, but then she..." Alex pulled her into an embrace. He didn’t want to hear repeat those words again like she did back then. Every word, if self blame hurt her more and it had tye sane effect on him. Watching her break down again was not what he wanted.
"It was not your fault, Sara," he said in a whisper as if trying to make a child understand and Luke a child. She shook her head again while sobbing silent. His finger caressed her back in a soothing motion, but he knew it had very little effect on her.
"I don’t want you blaming yourself for that. It was never your fault but those who sent tye assassin," he said, and this time, there was no reaction from her. Just her little sobs and her body that shook ever so lightly due to how long she had been crying before they came in.
Jessa watcheverytbinf unfold and didn’t know what yo do or say. She didn’t know if it was right to approach them or just leave and come another time, but one thing she was clear, whoever put her in this state had to pay. Someone had to. Her friend couldn’t suffer so much because of people she never cared about or even knew of their existence until a few days ago. With that, though, she walked out of the room and returned to the study where she had net Alex before on the second floor.
Alex seemed to have everything under control, so she would just trust him to take care of her friend for now.
After calming Sara once again and convinced her to take a bath, he left the room and returned to the study so thay he would give her the space that she needs.
"Mr Legend," Sara stood up immediately she saw him walk through the door.
Alex stopped, his eyes scanning the room and found everything the way had left them. Jessa knew what he was doing but she didn’t mind. It wasn’t like she touched anything.
"Be honest with me," she drew closer to him. "It’s the Goldmans, right?"
