Chapter 50. A collective agreement
Chapter 50: 50. A collective agreement
As he walked inside, he found his uncle, Sean reading the magazine with a cup of freshly brewed tea beside him. Beside his grandfather, Sean and his wife lived here to make sure that manor didn’t seem too empty for Williams to live in it alone.
He was just about to approach him when he spotted Mr North, the butler approaching him. He stopped and turned to face the butler squarely.
"Good morning Young Master Adam," Mr North greeted and Adam nodded in acknowledgements.
"Good morning, Mr North. Is grandfather awak?" Adam asked. He looked upstairs in the direction of Williams’ room. The door was closed but it didn’t guarantee anything.
"Yes, the master woke up a while ago," Mr North replied without giving much information but that was enough for Adam.
"Thank you. You can return to your duties,’he said and left even before Mr North could give a nod of his own.
"Uncle Sean," Walking by Sean, Adam stopped briefly and greeted hom which Sean replied with a warm smile. That warmth in his smile had always puzzled Adam. Didn’t he care at all about what was happening or at the way everyone at home looked at him.and his wife. Sometimes, Adam felt he didn’t live in the same world that they all did.
"Good Morning to you too, Adam," Sean replied. His warm smile stoll visible and Adam felt awkward so he returned the smile.
"Excuse me for a moment, I need to speak with grandfather," Adam said, leaving before he drowns himself further into the mystery that surrounded his uncle and his wife.
He knocked on Williams’ door and entered. Inside, Williams was seated on the U-shaped sofa with a cup of tea in his hand. He lookednup when he saw the open. Taking his gaze off his grandson, he gently placed the teach cup down and waited for him to draw nearer.
"Grandfather," Adam greeted. He looked at his grandfather who was already neatly dressed as if prepared to leave the house for some important event.
Williams hummed with a nod of his head. "seat down, Adam," he gestured to the empty single Sofa across him.
Adam looked at the sofa and wished it would just disappear. But since that wish never came through, Adam sat on it but felt very uncomfortable despite the comfort the sofa provided.
"I believe Dominic has told you everything said yesterday. No?" Adam nodded his head and Williams nodded once as well. "Whay do you have tonsay for yourself?"
"I am sorry, Grandfather," Adam said. He locked eyes with Williams before looking away after feeling the pressure of his grandfather’s gaze. "I should have been careful..." Williams interrupted him.
"You shouldn’t have done that at all, Adam. Not just being careful. Being careful can only take you take so far," Adam didn’t speak, he just listened knowing Williams wasn’t done talking. "I didn’t expect that even after you have grown into an adult, you would indulge in such foolish acts without thinking of the consequences...."
"Grandfayher, I..." Adam interjected but Williams didn’t let him.
"That woman whom you have committed those shameful acts with has been known to the public. I want to deal with it. How you handle it is all on you. But I will announce your canceled engagement with Sara today. She doesnt need to be dragged into this any further. The preparations have been made and I am leaving for that as we speak," Williams declared. He picked up his cup of tea and took a final sip of the remaining content.
"Doing that now could escalate everything grandfather. It will further ruin my name and the...." Williams gave a stern look at him and he went silent.
"A stain like this on a woman’s reputation becomes a stigma. Sara has done nothing to deserve such slanderous remarks to her and will make that clear today," William said and Adam clenched his fists.
Williams was more concerned about Sara than he was towards him, who was his grandson. Wasn’t it just laughable?
"Then what about the..."
Williams stood up as smoothened the edges of his suit. "Your punishment has already been decided and known to you. I expect you to behave, Adam Crawford."
"Grandfather..." He stood up as well. "...the suspension, how long till it ends?"
"Indefinitely," Williams replied. Somehow, he had enough patience to still give replies to Adam and it surprised himself too. "The board is not pleased with your recent behavior and the stocks have plummeted. Clients have been calling and complaining about your behavior," he saw Adam’s jaws harden but he couldnt do anything about it. He had the right to exoression his emotions. "Your suspension may have been a personal decision at first, it has bow become a collective agreement. So, indefinitely and effective immediately."
Williams walked out of the room leaving Adam behind. His eyes blazed with an untamed fury that threatened to consume him whole. But realizing that even that won’t change Williams mind, he quenched down the fire of rage and followed behind Williams. He wanted to hear first hand exactly what Williams would say to the press as he goes to address the issue.
Adam knew what bis grandfather and the board I’d directors wanted and it was not him. Williams had long declared an heir and that was the person everyone wanted. His suspension was just an excuse and then scandal an opportunity to have the rightful heir back on his throne even though he clearly didn’t want it.
"Father," Sean stood up to greet his father.
"Where is your brother?" Williams asked as he looked around and couldn’t find Dominic anywhere near.
"I am here, Father," Dominic answered as he emerged from behind the door. He had just arrived and heard Williams asking about him. He shifted his gaze to Adam who stood behind Williams and his brows furrowed.
"We are leaving immediately," Williams said and and started heading out if tye manor with Mr North walking beside him. He opened the door to the backseat for Willaims and then assumed the driver’s position.
"Mr Wilson said everything is ready and in place, Master," he informed and Williams nodded his head.
"I trust that it is," Williams said with certainty. He would be leaving for the company now if he didn’t know that everything was already set. It just shows how meticulous David Wilson was.
As Williams car drove out of the estate, everyone else followed behind them.
