Melting Her Cold Heart
Chapter 145: An Act Of Jealousy

Chapter 145: An Act Of Jealousy

"She is married to a Young Master Legend. I don’t have to tell that he does not lack manpower, do I?" She added, and he stood up straight immediately. Searching for the communication device, he was ready to contact Caleb.

"Don’t tell you truly believe what she is saying, Greg," his companion said, frustrated and torn between believing what Asia was saying and following his gut feeling.

"I am not forcing anyone to believe me. I am, after all, your prisoner at the moment. I could be lying. I could be telling the truth. You pick what to believe," Asia said, and Greg frowned.

His eyes stayed glued to her face, staring into her eyes, searching for the answer that he thought he already knew but had somehow become too blurry and uncertain. "Cole, go and find Caleb. I’ll keep watch here," he finally said. Deciding to take the most cautious step.

"This is ridiculous," Cole hissed, but he did go to find Caleb. At least this way, he could know for certain if Asia was lying to them.

Once he was gone, Greg squatted down before Asia. His eyes still glued on her face as he noted the split on her lower lip and the palm print on her cheek, telling him how harsh the impact of Cole’s slap was. It was even starting to swell, but like the stubborn woman that she is, she acted as though the pain was nothing.

"I am sorry," he apologized as his hand reached for her face. He held her chin and tilted her face to the side to have proper access to where she was slapped. "I should have stopped him earlier. You didn’t deserve the slap."

Asia snorted and pulled away from his hold. "If you felt that way, then what stopped you?" Greg was silent. "You truly are a coward."

"Asia..." He called in a warning tone, but she rolled her eyes at him.

"Since when did you become such a pushover? Since when did just anyone have the power to order you around now?"

"It’s not as simple as that. You don’t understand..." Greg tried to explain himself but was rudely interrupted.

"There is nothing there to understand beside the facts that you are here to kill a Goldman heir and even pretend like I am some stranger to you. You even have me strapped to a chair right now," Greg stood up and stepped back when she started struggling.

Had she not been restrained, she would have either kicked or punched him already.

"I am sorry," he said again but only received a glare. "I don’t want to do this, but I don’t have much of a choice when it’s a Goldman giving the order. You know we can’t refuse a direct order."

"Cut me loose then," Asia demanded.

"..."

He looked at her with a complicated gaze.

"Cut me loose, and I’ll help you make sure that she isn’t harmed. Unless you truly wish to harm Sara Goldman," Asia added.

"So you lied," Greg pointed, but Asia just raised a brow.

"Did I?" She asked.

"Then you are not needed to ensure her safety," Greg replied. He walked to the door and looked outside on both sides before he closed the door and locked it. "I’ll let you loose, but you can’t leave. Stay here a little longer."

"Why on earth would I do that when I have a job to do?" Asia frowned, wondering if he was thinking straight at all. "Elder Goldman trusted me to keep her safe, which means I need to be by her side. Not to stay in here with you when your friends are out there to kill her."

"If you haven’t noticed, your cheek is swollen. It needs to be taken care of," he squatted before her again as he spoke. "Let me take care of it."

"You are stalling. Why?" She noted. He could have let her go and even helped her, but he was determined to keep her here with him. Not as a hostage but as a companion.

"Am I?" He tilted his head and looked at her with an arched eyebrow.

"I am sure of it..." she trailed off as she started to understand what he might be thinking. "...was it Elena Greyson?" She asked, and Greg raised a brow. "Did she send you here?"

Greg looked away from her for a moment before he returned his gaze to her. "Yes," he finally replied. "Would you say she is unworthy too? She is your master’s wife..."

"Report to Wentworth. He would know what to do. He won’t allow the young miss to be harmed, nor would he punish you for doing the right thing by reporting such to him. The family might be competitive, but they are not permitted to kill one with the same blood as them. They won’t allow her that much power anymore if they know about this. You know this," she said, her tone and expression expressing the seriousness of the matter.

Her shoulders relaxed as soon as the ropes were cut off her wrists.

"You are a sweet girl, Asia. Very loyal and with a caring heart. But also very naive sometimes," he said and gave his hand to her . She grabbed it, and he pulled her to her feet and watched her stretch.

"What do you mean by naive? I know I am right," she looked confused as well as offended at his choice of words. Sweet but naive.

"I know you are. You always are. But not always a hundred percent accurate," he stopped and walked to the window and looked outside to make sure that neither Caleb or Cole had come yet.

"What do you mean?" She followed behind him. He reached behind him and pulled her closer, itching to keep as close as possible while he still could.

"The family may have rules against bloodshed within the family, but they also have ways to twist that rule. Don’t forget that none of them are pleased with your Young Miss becoming the heir. Trevor and Elena being childless had many happy so that one of their immediate families could rise and become the main Goldman family. Sara’s appearance was not welcomed by many. Elena is just working in jealousy and pain."

"It’s more than just jealousy at this point," Asia said in understanding. "Nothing will happen to you. The most that can happen would be you being demoted. They won’t kill you because you did nothing wrong, and they won’t send you away either. You’ve been a part of us for far too long." She said, and her certainty and confidence surprised him.

"If you are so sure, then I’ll just trust you," he said, running a hand through his hair. He looked at her, and her expression didn’t change. She even nodded her head firmly, and he smiled. Perhaps walking directly with Trevor and Wentworth gave her such confidence. In other words, he could trust it.

"All right. Let’s go save the future Goldman Matriarch," he said, and Asia beamed.

"You won’t regret it," she assured him.

Meanwhile, Sara sat with Alex watching the security footage of when Asia was taken by three men across the street. While one returned, the other two did not. Once it was all over and the video was completed, Sara heaved a sigh.

"Do you think she will be alright?" Sara asked even though she geared the answer herself.

"If they are truly men from the Goldmans, they won’t do anything too drastic to her as she is one of them," came Alex’s reply. He took her hand and massaged the back of her palm. The gesture and motion soothing nervous nerves.

"I hope you are right," she said, smiling subtly.

"Kai said they have identified the one left behind, and he will be apprehended soon. But we are waiting," Sara looked at him to shed more light on what he meant and understanding her gaze like that, he pinched her nose lightly making scrunch it as the look of irritation marred her face and she pursed her lips.

"Will you tell me or not?" She whined.

"And if I say, not?" He asked playfully with a raised brow.

"I’ll go ask secretary Skylar myself," she said, and his smile ceased from his face.

"You do realize that you could get into trouble by doing that, right?"

"So? Didn’t you say I don’t have to be afraid?" She asked and just stared at her with a disbelieving gaze.
