Chapter 140: Closer Than Brothers

Moments later, Dominic arrived with his family. And none besides Olivia had a genuine smile on their faces. Adam didn’t even thither to pretend as everyone already knew his displeasure towards everything.

Hushed murmurs followed their arrival, but when they were approached, everyone would become friendly, putting on smiles that they all knew weren’t genuine at all.

"Mr Crawford, can we have a moment of your time?"

"Sir Dominic, a moment please...."

The reporters were eager to interview Adam Adam and his father, but following the rules, they were not permitted to do that as the security team flagged around them instantly.

Shortly after they arrived were Sean and Selena, who accompanied Williams and Mr Wilson, Williams’ trusted secretary.

"Chairman Crawford," Mr Kingston said, extending his hand to Williams before the other board members and shareholders present walked up to them one after the other to give their salutations.

"It is wonderful to see you again, old friend," Williams replied. Their exchange was short as the others each wanted to take a turn.

Many looking at Nicholas with envy in their eyes knowing g much his children have grown to become successful despite a few rotten apples. Looking at Sean and Selena beside him, and knowing how much they have both achieved am their filial attitude towards their father.

"You must be Sean..." one of them said as he faced the couple.

Although reluctant to get involved with the board of Apex, Sean wasn’t left with many choices here. As a Crawford and Apex being a family business, his involvement was inevitable.

"A pleasure to meet, Mr Reynolds," Sean said, and Mr. Reynolds looked surprised that he knew his name. "This is my wife, Selena. I believe you must have already known tha," his hand went behind Selena’s back as he introduced her.

Selena sure and said a few words of flattery to the man who gladly accepted them all.

Williams was then led to his seat at the long table with many seats, and so were the rest of his family, putting a stop to the conversations and small talks.

The arrival of the Crawfords suddenly made everything seem to fall in place. But the young president whom they had all come to see for themselves and believe whether it was true or not that he was truly a Crawford was yet to make an appearance. Not even his rumored wife, who they have also come to know to be one of his secretaries, and Adam’s ex, has made an appearance.

"Do you really think she would come here today?" One of them asked her cameraman seated beside her. They all knew what everyone was thinking and whispering even though none dared to voice it.

"She will," the cameraman replied, and she raised a brow. "She is both the president’s wife and secretary. Of course, she would be here."

Their words, although said in whispers, they knew that was almost what everyone was most likely thinking of, too.

Seated at the table, Williams glanced at Kai. It was a good thing that he was there, but that wouldn’t appease the people around them if Alex himself was yet to make an appearance.

"Skylar," Williams called to the young secretary.

"Yes, Chairman," Kai answered, his mind already making guesses for why Williams called him.

"Can they make it?" Willians asked. Kai didn’t expect that he would phrase his question that way paused to properly process the answer. "I want to know if Sara and Kayden will make it here and in time. I am aware of the situation," Williams elaborated.

"Yes, sir. Alex and Sara are already on their way here. They will be here and on time," Kai replied, and Williams’ lips curled up in satisfaction.

"I am glad," he said with a nod of his head. "I would like to ask that you continue to remain loyal to him," Willimas suddenly said, and Kai’s expression turned serious, matching the older man’s words. "You two are close, closer than brothers, and that is admirable, and I respect that. I do hope that in the future, your relationship will always be like this."

He paused and looked at his side where David Wilson sat. He smiled when their eyes met.

He looked back at Kai and continued. "Like your father and myself. Although it came as a surprise that you and kayden got so close, it was a welcomed surprise."

Kai briefly looked at his father for a moment before he smiled and nodded his head. "I am grateful for your words, Chairman. Thank you."

As this conversation went on, Adam was glaring at Kai, who acted as though he had never felt the gaze at all. He looked as nonchalant as he could possibly be, and it pricked Adam in the wrong ways.

The way Williams spoke of the relationship between Alex and Kai with so much pride also rubbed him wrongly, but all he could do was glare, grit his teeth, and clench his fist in silence.

Adam wasn’t the only one who didn’t like the conversation between them, but so did his parents, who once again thought Williams was playing favorites. Especially when he asked about Alex and Sara.

"Shouldn’t give your boss a call. Everyone is already here and waiting for him. It is very unprofessional to keep even his elders waiting like this," Adam said to Kai only to see him raise a brow in amusement.

"The President is on his way," he said, speaking out for everyone seated and near to hear and not misunderstand what was going on. "He just had an issue that he could not ignore," he then turned to face Adam squarely. "I am sure young master Crawford is very well aware of the situation and the important appointment."

"Adam was a bit insensitive there. Forgive him for that," Dominic cut in. Everyone has already heard Willins ask if they could make it, which meant he understood the severity of the situation. It wasn’t right for Adam to say something like that.

"Since Alex is on his way already, it means the appointment with the doctor has been successfully concluded. It is only a matter of time," Dominic added, and many nodded, but the mention of an appointment with the doctors had many confused and worried.

It wasn’t long after their conversations ended that Alex and Sara walked into the conference room, and all eyes instinctively locked on them.

Sara was dressed in a navy blue pant suit, and anyone thay saw knew it was custom made. Alex, though dressed in black, anyone looking at it would know that it was made to match that of Sara’s. The pattern of embroidery was the same and fitted him perfectly, too.

As soon as he arrived, the board members of Legend Corp and Apex present rose to their feet, exchanging greetings, but Alex’s focus was on willimas and his older brothers.

"Father," he greeted with a polite stance and a respectful tone. His eyes stared intensely at Williams as if trying gauge what was wrong with him with only his eyes.

Williams knew this and chuckled. "I am glad that you could make it, Kayden. We were all getting worried," he said but didn’t speak about what he deduced from his gaze.

"We are sorry to have kept you all waiting. It was not intentional, I assure you," he said and looked at the time. It was only a few minutes to the time set for the purpose of the gathering, and he gestured from everyone to sit.

"Father," Sara greeted, ger face feeling warm as this was her first appearance before Williams as his daughter-in-law.

"I am glad to see that you are all right. But let’s safe the pleasantries for later and proceed with the gathering for now," He said, but he had a soft and warm smile on his lips as he spoke.

It was good that she was in perfect health. He just hoped what his eyes were seeing was not false but truth as it was.

"Yes. Of course, father," Sara answered before, looking away, and her eyes met those if Selena who looked at her with warmth. Her lips curled at its edges as she smiled, seemingly genuinely happy to see her.

Silence settled briefly as Alex and David exchanged glances. David took out a file from his bag after receiving a nod if approval from Alex.

"Chaiman," he called and handed it to him.

Taking the file, Williams cleared his throat, drawing everyone’s attention to himself. The reporters got their microphones and cameras ready, knowning it was about commencing.
