Melting Her Cold Heart
Chapter 139. I’ll see you soon

Chapter 139: 139. I’ll see you soon

Away from Opulence Oaks, Kai exited the elevator as he made his way to the conference room. The reporters and other important figures who were to be present at the conference were beginning to gather, but the president was still nowhere in sight.

Kai would have blamed Alex and probably called him a dozen times already had he not known that he had aom family issues to take care of. Sara’s fainting the previous day had them all worried, and he was no different.

"Mr Wilson," one of the board members of Apex Groups called to Kai, who stopped and as the man approached him.

"It is quite an honor to meet you," he reached out to shake Kai’s hand, Kai stared at the hand for a second before reaching out to shake it.

"The pleasure is mine, Mr Reynolds," Kai said, happy thay he had taken the time and effort to memorize the names of the important figures of Apex. Although he doubted that Alex would do that but he wouldn’t be surprised if he already knew them all either.

"I have heard so much about you and the young Crawford. I must say, it is quite impressive to see you young ones filling your fathers’ shoes and even surpassing them at such a young age," Mr Reynolds said, smiling from ear to ear.

Kai knew without a doubt that he was trying to curry favor. ’At least he doesn’t seem to a double faced man," Kai said inwardly but offered a smile of his own and replied,

"You flattered, Mr Reynolds. Our fathers are still the ones we look up to. We wouldn’t br where we are today without them."

"Yes, that is true," Mr Reynolds looked around before looking back at Kai. "Is the young Crawford not here yet?"

"The president will be here soon. Please exercise some patience," Kai replied, his tone now more professional than before, and Mr Reynolds immediately knew he was done with the conversation.

"Yes, of course," he smiled awkwardly as he watched Kai take a step back and offered him a curt nod.

"I will see you around, Mr Reynolds," Kais said before he turned to continued walking. As he went around the conference room, he took note of everything and everyone present. Making sure that all that was needed and necessary were in the right places and the security stationed where they should maintain order.

Right at that moment, a young woman approached him, and although he found her familiar, he could quite recall where they had met before.

"Secretary Wilson, may i have a moment if your time?" She asked, and he stopped to look at her again, still trying to remember where he saw her.

"I am Melanie Wills, the new manager of the PR department of Legend Corp," she I trounced herself, seeming shy to say that. He was probably still not used to calling herself a manager.

"Right. I am sorry I failed to recognize you, Miss Wills. My apologies," Kai said, but didn’t pointboutbhe red her cheeks had gotten just now. "It must have been tough you dealing with something like this right after a promotion."

"Not really," Melanie said, still bashful but more relaxed now. And even though it was rough, she was not going to say it was and make herself look under qualified for the responsibility. "This had always been pary of my job even before I became the manager. Although it was a story notice, we did manage to pull it through."

Kai smiled her and nodded his head. "Yes. You did. I am quite impressed and appreciative of you and your team." He said, and they began walking, taking slow steps, but they didn’t stand still so that others didn’t approach them.

At his words, Melanie smiled proudly. Although ut was tough at first and there were a few people in tye department who didny appreciate the fact that she was promoted to the manager, knowing who puy her there, they were still able to put their heads togeth3r and work things out to have this conference ready.

"Is there a problem you’d need my assistance?" Kai asked since he couldn’t think of any other thing to talk about, and her silence was making things awkward between them.

"Yes," she stopped, and he stopped as well. "It is nothing related to work, but I just wanted to ask if Sara is all right. A few days ago, I saw her car in an accident sight, and after that, there were rumors that circulated online. I have tried to reach out to her, but I have been able to reach her." She stopped and looked around, and Kai did the same. "She isn’t here either. I was...I am just worried, Secretary Wilson."

"..."

Kai opened his mouth to answer but closed back up without uttering a word. He now remembered where he saw her. And from what he deduced, she was the only friend Sara had within the company. She worried for her friend, and that was why she was the inky one who approached him to ask how she was faring.

’Alex will be glad to know that someone in here cares for his wife,’ he thought.

"She is all right and will be here soon. You have nothing to worry about, Miss Wills," he assured her. But Melanie still didn’t seem to be at ease. "You will see her soon. A right?"

"Yes, you are right," Melanie said, fixing her expression before she looked at him and nodded her head. "I am sorry for taking your time. You must have a lot to do. I won’t hold you back anymore."

"It was nice talking to you, Miss Wills. Let’s meet some of other time," Kai said.

"Sure, let’s," Melanie said, and they both paused at that.

Kai wondered why he wanted to meet her, while she wondered why she even agreed to it so casually. Their eyes met momentarily, and they looked away. Kai wanted to explain to her that he didn’t mean it thay way but held back his tongue, seeing how she had once again gone red from embarrassment.

"Yes. See you soon," he said. Whatever the misunderstanding was, he could clarify it after meeting again.

"Mm..hmm," she hummed. Trying not to look at him but still couldn’t, and her heart started to race. She prayed that something would happen to distract them from this awkward moment or that someone should just come up to them already.

Kai didn’t feel any different from what she felt as the awkwardness stretched. What has he done? And why did he find it so darn hard to walk away from this awkward situation? He couldn’t even find the words to say or move his feet to leave, and he could see that she felt the same. The way her fingers fidgeted gave that away.

Taking a deep breath, he decided to own up to it.

"How about at dinner," he asked, and he blinked.

"Huh?"

"Let’s meet at dinner. You can anywhere you are most comfortable in," he offered, and she nodded her head.

"Yes... right," Kai held back a chuckle at how innocent she seemed when answering like that.

"Until then, Miss Wills. Don’t forget to let me know the place and time," he said as he turned away from her so I started going before it became more awkward.

"I will, Mr. Wilson," she said and he nodded at her.

As soon as he left her side, her hand went up to her heart and felt it beating speedily. Sounding louder than ever before. "Did he just ask me out and I agreed? No way!" She wondered out loud only to quickly look around to make sure no one else heard her.

Once certain that no one else had guarded her, she walked away to find a spot to sit before her legs grew weaker on her. She needed to calm down else she might end up messing up today.

Meanwhile, Kai stopped once he was certain that she wasn’t looking at him anymore. He turned and found her running towards a door which he was sure was accessible to staff only.

Even though he could still believe what just happened, what could he do now? It was already done and he must keep to his word.

Who would have thought I would ask out a woman I don’t even know just like that?" He muttered hoping he didn’t look crazy to the people around him.

"The Guys would laugh when they hear this," he sighed and shook his head midlu bit he could stop the smile that slowly crept up his face either.
