Melting Her Cold Heart -
Chapter 136. Do you remember?
Chapter 136: 136. Do you remember?
At Opulent Oaks, Sara slowly opened her eyes, and a dimly lit room greeted her. Her brows pulled together as her eyes scanned the room and recognized immediately.
As she tried to sit up, she felt a pang on her head and winced, hissing, and her hands shot up to her head, but she still sat down anyway.
She looked at her side and smiled, seeing Alex beside her. His brows were pulled together, and his posture seemed uncomfortable with his chin resting on his knuckles. It was obvious that he had just dozed off and that, too, against his will.
"I am sorry I made you worry," she said while brushing some stray strands of hair off his face. Her touch, although light and feathery, still woke him up as he looked at her. He seemed to not believe it at first, but then, she smiled. "I am fine now," she said to assure him.
Alex held her hand and placed it on his cheek as if testing it for himself. that she was truly awake, and when he confirmed it, he pulled her into his arms, locking her in his embrace.
"I am so sorry," he said, and for a moment, Sara felt his body tremble. "I shouldn’t have shown that to..." he paused as he related that he shouldn’t remind her of the photo. He gritted his teeth for having his words taken from him like this. He couldn’t give a proper apology for his mistake.
"It’s all right, Alex," she said, patting his back gently. "I am fine, and I do remember the photo," he pulled back to look at her, and she nodded. "Yes, I remember."
"And you are all right?" Aled asked, his eyes searching hers for any hint of discomfort or pain, but he found nothing.
"I woke up with a headache, but I am fine now. It has eased up a bit. You have nothing to worry about, dear husband," she smiled, but he couldn’t bring himself to a smile just yet.
His thoughts were racing as different possibilities presented themselves before him. Unable to keep only thinking about it, he asked, "How much do... no, do you remember everything...?" He was hesitant, but he still asked.
Sara nodded, and he frowned, not sure what to whether to believe it or not. His expression was thought as he stared at her.
"Are you sure?" He asked again.
"I am fine, and I did say I remember, Alex. You don’t have to look at me like that," she said, finding his reaction and expression cute. "Although I am a little mad at you, I am more glad."
"I will call Doctor Anders back here," Alex said, and she frowned.
"Why?"
"I just need to be..."
"Need to be what?" She I terrified himself, and he went mute. "Alex," she said and calmed herself. "I am fine. There’s no need to be so worked up. I should know if something is wrong with me, okay?" She cupped his face in both of her hands while he nodded his head.
"I just want to be certain." He said softly.
"You wanted me to remember everything, and now that I do, you are not even happy about it. I am disappointed, you know?" She said , taking her hand back to her side, but he quickly grabbed a hold of one, keeping her close.
"9 am sorry for that. But your heart and safety come first," Sara looked at him and let out a long sigh.
"Fine, you can call him. But I doubt he would say anything different from what I have said. But in order to ease and appease your worries, I will let Dr. Anders check on me." Sars said, and he nodded his head.
He could finally smile now that that was taken care of.
"I have you back now, right?" he asked, cupping her face and drawing closer to her. Sars nodded with a wide grin that also had him smiling. "I am glad," he kissed her forehead before placing his own on hers, too.
"I should apologize now, right?" Sara said, now feeling guilty to have been the one who had forgotten her lover. Had everything not played out the way it did, she would have been someone else’s wife by now.
"What are you to apologize for?" Alex didn’t care what happened anymore. He was already willing to accept her even without the memories of the past together, so what was there to apologize for now that everything was back to its rightful place?
Sara smiled softly and pulled back. "I forgot about you, Alex. That’s what I am apologizing for. I now understand how bad it must have felt to know that the person you love no longer remembers you. Nothing about you. And sees you as a total stranger when you are expecting a happy reunion upon your return. You must have been hurt, and it’s all my fault. So I am sorry, I didn’t mean to forget you."
"I already felt bad before, but now I feel worse," Alex closed his eyes. Now that she remembers, she blames herself, but he was the one to be blamed.
"Why would you feel bad?" Sara asked, finding it absurd that he would feel bad about hearing her apologize. "You had always been there for me, and I know if you had been in my shoes at that time, you would have never chosen to forget everything. To forget me."
"You have misunderstood me," he said, but she just stared at him in silence. "You weren’t strong enough to be left alone. I shouldn’t have left. If I hadn’t then–"
"Alex," she stopped him before he could say more. "You had a purpose for leaving. I should have known tnay and accepted the facts. But as you said, it wasn’t strong enough. Had I been strong, then I would have understood–"
Before she could complete her words, he kissed her, muffling all other words as he was unable to keep hearing her talk that way about herself.
"Don’t say such things again," he said after breaking the kiss. "There aren’t many women as strong as you are. So don’t even look down on yourself like that again."
"Then will you stop blaming yourself too?" She asked but he was silent, unable to answer the question.
