Melting Her Cold Heart -
Chapter 126
Chapter 126: 126
At the Crawfords residence, Williams sat on the single sofa in his room, his eyes staring at the files scattered across the table. His gaze was disoriented, and many thoughts ran rampant in his mind but remained fixated on the pieces of paper.
"Perhaps it would be better to continue this in the morning," Mr North said as he walked in, slowly closing the door behind him. "You are not young anymore, Master."
"How many times do I have to tell you, North? I have a name, and master isn’t it," Williams said, massaging his temple.
"How could I ever dare?" Mr North said as he gently placed the freshly brewed tea on the table. He then began arranging the files, stacking them at the far corner of the table. "I have served you for as long as I can remember and you have always been my master," he stopped as he picked a file from the floor, his eyes scanned its content before keeping it aside from the others. "I am who I am today because of you, Master Crawford. For that, I am forever indebted to you."
"And here I thought we were friends," Williams said, and Mr. North laughed.
"If we are not, then I am not sure who to call a friend, old friend," Mr North said as he rose to his feet. His gaze lingered a little longer on the document he kept aside.
"Do you think I made the right decision, North?" Williams asked, noticing how much he looked at that one piece of paper even keeping it aside. He then picked up the cup 9f tea and stirred it a little before taking a sip from it. Adam and Kayden might bring about the destruction of this family, and I can’t blame either of them. I have never been capable enough to control my family, and now this is what is happening. Instead of the love I dreamed of building, they fight each other..."
"Wiliams," Mr North called, stopping him before he could wallow more in self blame. Williams raised his head to meet Mr. North’s gaze. Calling him by his first name surprised him, especially after what he had said earlier.
"You have done your best in raising the children," he began with Willaims staring intently at him. "It is one thing to teach a child. It is another for the child to learn from it. What they learn is something you can not force on them because it depends on how they view it," he sat opposite Williams and continued. "You raised them well. When they were still children, they followed your instructions, but now that they are grown, they make decisions for themselves. What they chose to do and how they chose to act has nothing to do with you or how they were raised, but whobthey chose to be now."
Williams wanted to agree with him, but he could only blame himself. Many questions came to his mind, and he wondered. If he hadn’t remarried back, then would things be like this? For starters, Julliette would still be alive, but then Kayden wouldn’t exist. Would the children have grown up hating each other? Or would he have gotten the family that he wanted but couldn’t?
"Perhaps I didn’t teach them well enough. They say that you teach a chord when he is still young. He will never forget when he grows older. I know how true that is. What I wasthoughy as a child, I still follow to this day. But that is not the same for my children," Williams sighed. He reached for the paper North kept aside and stared at it. "Right now, I can only hope I am making the right decision this time."
"If you are questioning your past decisions, then you haven’t made any wrong ones before. Not even marrying Juliette," North said, but Williams smiled subtly and leaned his back into the sofa.
"Everything started changing after I married her, North. Had I let her go. She would still be alive. The children wouldn’t be at odds with each other, and Becca’s family would still be as they were if not better." Williams reasoned, but North shook his head.
"You nearly died after Becca passed away, Lady Julliette was the who helped you back on your feet. And had you noy married her, Young Master Kayden wouldn’t be born either. Is that what you wish for, Master?" North asked, and williams became tongue tied. "Everything that happened has its reasons. The young masters are foolish to not see your effort and think you favor one over the other."
Williams was silent as he absorbed what North said. There was no way he would ever wish that Alex wasn’t born. He was his son as much as his older brothers. It was just that his mother had to pay a price she wasn’t supposed to because of some jealous relatives.
"Thank you, North," Williams said with a small smile on his lips.
"I am just glad that I could be of help to you," North replied with a polite bow.
Williams nodded his head before passing the file to North. "I think I’ll be better if you hold on to it for now. When the time is right, I will ask for it."
"I promise to keep it safe, sire."

Meanwhile, Adam’s car was parked at the gates of the residence. His eyes stared at the large building with mixed emotions. He didn’t even know how long he had been there, but he had made no attempt to go in.
After much deliberation. He picked up his phone from the passenger seat. He couldn’t go in, but he also didn’t want to be alone tonight. His appearance, though comfortable, was empty and cold.
He dialed a number, but it was powered off, and he was directed by the automated voice to the voicemail. After many attempts, he decided to leave a message.
"Mal, are you home? I am coming to your place or would you prefer coming to mine?"
He stared at the screen for a while before sending it. He knew it was wrong to see Malerie now, but he needed to unwind. There was just too much going on that he needed a woman with him, and Malerie was the perfect candidate for that. To each other, they knew exactly what they were. A pair to use each other whenever they wanted to. She got his money and he got her body. It was a win-win.
He waited for a few more minutes but never got a reply from her. Frustrated, he drove to her place. At a glance, nothing seemed out of place, but there was this nagging feeling inside of him that told him that something was wrong.
"Mal..." he called, his hand on the doorknob ready to open it at any moment, but he was hesitating. Why? Adam asked himself, but he didn’t know why. "Mal...?" He called again but still received no reply.
Thinking that she might be angry with him for not calling her all the while. He decided to go in first. Opening the door. He was met with darkness, but he made his way to the bedroom and called her number again. Just like before, it wasn’t going through.
"Mal, this is not the time to play around, okay? We need to talk," he pushed open the door to the bedroom, but to his surprise, she wanted there. The bed was rumpled, but there was no one on it. Looking around the room, he realized that it hadn’t been used for at least a day.
"Did she run away?" he muttered to himself, unable to believe that even Malerie would leave him when he had no one on his side. "This is just ridiculous," he laughed at his pitiful self.
"Even you too would leave me? Huh? Malerie?" He laughed again, running his finger aggressively through his hair, the sound of his laughter increasing and echoing echoing in the darkness.
"Fine, but I’ll make sure you pay for what I am going through, Malerie. Someone has to lay the price for it," his expression turned grim, and his eyes darkened. Why was he the only one suffering while everyone else went about being happy?
Raising his phone, he dialed another number. He heard it ring a few times before it was answered.
"Hello, Mr. Crawford, what can I do for you?" A man’s voice came through the phone.
"Officer Luke, there’s something I’d like your help with."
