MATED TO THE SECRET ALPHA
Chapter 92: Consequences

Chapter 92: Consequences

His gaze followed Mirian’s, his piercing eyes locking onto Kira.

"G-Gamma Kira," Mirian stuttered, her voice a barely audible whisper as she scrambled to her feet, her eyes wide with a mix of surprise and guilt. In her haste, she lost her footing on the loose gravel, her arms flailing wildly as she teetered on the edge of the cliff. "Ahh!"

She thought she’d plummet to her death, but a strong arm snaked around her waist, pulling her back from the brink with a swift, sure motion. Zeta Detroit’s grip was like a vice, holding her secure as she trembled with fear, her heart racing in her chest.

Kira panicked about to shoot forward, but seeing Zeta Detroit’s swift rescue, her fear gave way to relief.

But she expected him to let Mirian go immediately, but he didn’t.

Her wolf eyes narrowed, zeroing in on the Zeta’s hand still wrapped possessively around Mirian’s waist. A low, warning growl rumbled in her throat, her hackles rising as she took a step forward, her paws planted firmly on the ground.

Mirian’s eyes darted nervously to Kira, her face pale as she sensed the rising tension. She hesitated for a moment before gently prying his hand from her waist, her voice soft as she spoke, "It’s okay, Gamma Kira. I’m fine."

But her words did little to ease Kira’s growing unease, her wolf senses on high alert as she continued to regard Detroit with a wary gaze.

’Return with me,’ Kira mind-linked, her mental voice firm but laced with a hint of urgency. ’Now, Mirian.’

"O– okay," Mirian replied, her voice barely above a whisper. With that, she stepped forward, but his hand shot out, his fingers wrapping around her wrist, holding her in place.

"Wait," he said, his eyes locked onto Kira’s, a hint of challenge in his voice.

"Awoool!" Kira’s wolfish cry echoed through the air, her eyes blazing with a fierce warning as she took another step forward, her hackles raised.

However, Zeta Detroit wasn’t intimidated, in fact, his presence alone seemed to grow more commanding, his eyes flashing with a cold, calculated intensity as he met Kira’s gaze. The air around him seemed to vibrate with an aura of authority, a subtle reminder of who he was, and for a moment, Kira’s aggressive stance faltered, her wolfish instincts sensing the threat.

"Wh– what is it?" Mirian stammered, her voice laced with a growing unease, the last thing she wanted was a fight to break out between the two. The Luna would surely have her head if her Gamma was wounded.

"I have something for you," he said, his fingers deftly reaching for the loose braids that cascaded down his back. He plucked a feather and a bone from the woven strands, and with a swift, practiced motion, secured them in Mirian’s hair, the tokens nestling weirdly, but beautifully in her locks, just around her shoulder.

Mirian didn’t understand his tradition or what this gesture meant, but somehow, it warmed her heart. She smiled and was about to hug him, but remembering Kira was still there, she hesitated, her gaze darting to the Gamma’s tense form. Kira’s eyes narrowed, her expression unreadable, but the air around her seemed to vibrate with a low, warning hum.

"I’ll treasure it," she said, her smile lingering, and was about to turn away when he spun her around, his hands grasping her shoulders with a gentle yet firm pressure. Then, without warning, sealed her lips with his.

"Awoool!" Kira growled and shot forward, her eyes blazing with a fierce, protective intensity. She aimed to slam into Detroit, but before she could, he swiftly pushed Mirian to safety and instinctively kicked his leg out in a fluid, practiced motion, connecting with Kira’s stomach and sending her crashing to the ground, a few meters back.

"No!" Simultaneously, Mirian screamed, her voice echoing through the air as she lunged forward, falling to her knees beside Kira, who had been forced back into her human form, by the impact.

She cradled the trembling Kira in her embrace, blood trickling down her lips as Mirian’s eyes blazed with a fierce, protective anger. "What’s wrong with you?" she spat at Detroit, her voice low and venomous. "She was just trying to protect me!"

The air seemed to vibrate with tension as Detroit’s expression darkened, his jaw clenched in a mixture of frustration and regret. His fist clenched, unsure of what to do at this point.

He wasn’t good with explanations. In fact, he’d never come close to having to justify his actions to anyone, especially not to someone like Mirian, whose opinion seemed to matter more to him than he cared to admit.

The silence between them grew heavier, punctuated only by Kira’s ragged breathing.

"WHAT IS GOING ON HERE!?"

Mirian’s heart chilled when Reana’s booming voice suddenly echoed through the woods, breaking the tension. Her head snapped behind her, Reana was striding over in large, purposeful strides, her eyes fixed intently on the scene before her.

The sunlight danced across her face, highlighting the sharp angles and deep lines etched into her skin, giving her an aura of unyielding authority. "What in the name of the gods is going on here?" Reana demanded, her voice firm but controlled, as she took in Kira’s battered form and Detroit’s tense posture.

At that moment, explanations were irrelevant. Fury blazed in Reana’s eyes like wildfire as her claws shot out with deadly precision, her body contorting in a fluid, painful-looking shift. Her limbs elongated, muscles rippling beneath her skin, tearing apart the beautiful dress that had dazzled people earlier.

She transformed into a majestic, enraged white beast. The air was electric with tension as she positioned herself between Kira and Detroit, a low, ominous growl rumbling in her throat, claws digging into the field, ready to lurch at Detroit.

Meanwhile, Detroit’s heart shuddered, not because he was scared of Reana, but because of the man standing a few meters away. He looked lazy, reclining against a nearby tree with an air of effortless nonchalance, but Detroit knew better.
