Chapter 140: Pray For Ryder

Ryder nodded, his gaze understanding. "Take all the time you need," he said, his voice low. "I know it’s a lot to take in."

In their previous life, they didn’t have time to talk about all these things. The male Reana, or call him ’Ryder’, didn’t give him enough time to share all of these with him.

Although, Ryder had always had these powers buried inside him, even in his first life. He didn’t know about it.

It was Shadow One who opened his eyes to the power he held. Even now, Ryder was still exploring them. He wasn’t sure if he had even scratched the surface of his true potential.

There were still so many mysteries to unravel, so many secrets to uncover. Shadow One said he could be a god. He said his master wanted to recruit him as his heir.

But his condition...Ryder couldn’t be with Reana. "A god must shed their worldly attachment," Shadow One had said.

To hell with all of them!

He didn’t care about these powers, immortality, or whatnot. All he wanted was his woman. Was that so hard? Why couldn’t they understand that simple fact?

Meanwhile, Reana closed her eyes, trying to calm her racing mind. She felt like she was on the verge of a mental overload, and she wasn’t sure if she could handle any more revelations.

But as she sat there, she realized that she had one more question to ask. "Ryder?"

"Yes?" he replied, his voice low.

"Can you shift for me?" she asked, her eyes still closed. "I want to see your wolf."

There was a pause, a long pause that dragged for seconds.

She felt his muscles tensed up. Slowly, her eyes opened. And they locked eyes. And for a moment, they just stared at each other.

"Can I not?" He asked quietly.

"You have no choice in this matter, Ryder. You’ve given out more than enough information to get you in trouble... if I were an enemy. So why hold back now? I just want to see your wolf."

No, she didn’t just want to see. She wanted to confirm the color of his wolf.

If it was red, then it would mean the red fur she saw in the woods belonged to him. And the scent too.

In other words, he’s not a member of her Black Moon Pack...

Reana’s eyes locked onto Ryder’s, her expression calm and determined. Ryder’s gaze seemed to falter, his eyes flashing with a mix of emotions.

He knew he couldn’t deny her request, not after everything he had revealed. Slowly, he nodded, his muscles tensing up in preparation.

Reana’s eyes never left his, her gaze piercing and cold as she waited for him to shift.

The air seemed to vibrate with anticipation, as he moved away from her and then, in a flash of movement, Ryder’s body began to change. His limbs shortened, his senses heightened, and his fur burst forth in a riot of color.

Reana’s eyes flashed as she took in the sight of Ryder’s wolf, her gaze fixed on the distinctive markings that confirmed her suspicions.

The wolf’s fur was a fiery, rich red. No blemish, no other color to be seen. Just a majestic, gorgeous, fiery red.

Reana’s heart skipped a beat. Her mind reeling.

It was him. He was the one who killed those rogues. Reana could smell the unfamiliar scent now. The Black Moon Pack’s scent could not be perceived on Ryder anymore.

His scent was a unique blend, one that Reana couldn’t quite place. Unlike the Black Moon Pack’s earthy scents and wildflowers, Ryder’s didn’t smell like earth or wood.

The scent was an enigma, a paradox of contrasts that left Reana breathless. It was divine, yet strange; intimidating, yet comfortable. The more she breathed it in, the more she felt a sense of calm wash over her, as if the scent was wrapping her in a warm, protective blanket.

Then, she picked up a familiar smell. It was subtle, but it was there... Lavender. The scent she’d grown to love recently.

Reana’s head ached.

If this was Ryder’s scent, then it meant that he’d been using a scent masker, faking the scent that belonged to the Black Moon Pack.

If so, Ryder was not a true member of her pack. He didn’t submit to her pack. He was an imposter!

Then whose identity did he steal? Where was the person? Did Ryder kill him too?

She massaged her temple. Ryder would be the death of her. It was confirmed.

At this point, he was truly insane.

"Ryder, shift." She said with a hint of exasperation, her voice laced with a mix of frustration and tiredness.

Ryder’s eyes locked onto hers, and for a moment, they just stared at each other. Then, with a subtle nod, he began to shift back into his human form.

When the shift was complete, Ryder stood before her, his head down, like a child feeling remorseful after being reprimanded.

"What’s going on, Ryder? Why is your wolf red?" she asked calmly, trying hard to maintain her cool.

"The Moon goddess happened." He replied, matter-of-factly. "She hates me. I told you already."

Reana’s head throbbed. Her lips twitched. Was that his excuse? Of all the things he could do, it was to put all the blame on the Moon goddess?

Well, the goddess created him and likely made him red, but... Still...

Reana sighed. She was speechless.

"So, is the Moon goddess also to blame for being an imposter in my pack?" she arched a brow.

Even after shifting back to human, he still had that scent that belonged to his wolf. Which only proved Reana’s observation right.

Ryder was using a scent masker.

"Yes." He replied bluntly. Then crouched down beside Reana, like a big child. "I’m sorry for deceiving you for so long, my love. I didn’t mean to. I was just looking for the best way to get close to you."

"So, you infiltrated just to be with me...?" She was asking these questions calmly. Too calmly that Ryder felt a shiver run down his spine.

Yet, he nodded.

Reana let out a soft, unamused chuckle. "And you killed the person you’re impersonating, yes?"
