MATED TO THE SECRET ALPHA -
Chapter 122: Marked
Chapter 122: Marked
Marcus’s lips were warm and insistent, his tongue tracing the curve of her mouth with a gentle yet possessive touch. Mirian’s eyes fluttered closed as she felt herself melting into the kiss, her body responding to Marcus’s with a hunger she couldn’t quite understand.
She was betraying Detroit, she knew that, but at this moment, she couldn’t bring herself to care. All that mattered was the feel of Marcus’s lips on hers, the way he pushed her lightly onto her back and loomed over her.
Her heart spiked, heaving as she watched his every move, expectations stuffing her chest.
"You’re mine now, Mirian," he said before leaning down, but not to her lips.
His face hovered over her neck and in the next second, his canine gleamed as they sank into her neck.
Mirian’s eyes widened in horror as she felt a searing pain in her neck, followed by a wave of heat that spread through her body. She tried to push Marcus away, but he was too strong, his grip on her unyielding.
"No, Marcus, please!" she begged, her voice shaking with fear. But Marcus didn’t stop, his teeth sinking deeper into her neck as the pain of the bonding shot through her, suppressing the heat.
Mirian hissed, her claws digging into his flesh as she held him tightly. The pain was severe, more painful than what she felt when she was rejected.
But being marked wasn’t supposed to be this painful. Why was hers this...
She yelped, sweat breaking out on her forehead as the pain intensified, her body trembling beneath Marcus’s. She felt like she was being torn apart, her cells rearranging themselves to accept the bond.
It was a brutal, primal sensation, and Mirian couldn’t help but wonder if she was going to survive it.
Just when she thought she couldn’t take it anymore, Marcus retracted his canines, flicking his tongue over the wound as he tried to soothe her.
The pain began to recede as the wound slowly closed up, leaving her feeling drained and shaken.
Marcus pulled back, searching her tearful eyes. "I’m sorry," he said, kissing away her tears.
Mirian hugged him, burying her face in his chest as she cried. "This is wrong," she began, "He’ll be heartbroken," her voice muffled against his chest. "Detroit will bring war to our doorstep... I shouldn’t have let this happen."
Marcus’s arms tightened around her, holding her close as he whispered, "You don’t have to worry about what he feels. He can’t do anything," he pulled away, locking eyes with her. "Nobody will get hurt. Not the pack, not you, I promise."
Mirian’s eyes searched Marcus’s, looking for whatnot, but all she saw was confidence, determination, and conviction. She wanted to believe him, to trust that he could keep her and the pack safe from Detroit’s wrath.
But Detroit was a Dark Snow member. He wouldn’t let this betrayal slide. He might kill her and Marcus, or from how obsessed he was about her, he might find a way to claim her back.
Mirian’s heart sank, her mind racing with the potential consequences. She felt trapped, caught between the strong feelings she had for them both.
To be honest, she wanted them both. But their Southern Mainland didn’t practice polyandry and the very thought of it was considered taboo. Mirian knew that if she was discovered having feelings for two men, she would be shunned by her community, and possibly even worse.
She felt like she was living a lie, torn between Detroit, who had claimed her as his own, and Marcus, who had just marked her as his mate.
"Marcus," she whispered, trying to sound calm. "What have you done?"
But Marcus didn’t see anything wrong in it. In fact, it looked normal to him as he nibbled and sucked on my neck, "It’s not as complicated as you think it is," he whispered to her skin. "Don’t worry about it, Mirian, I’ll take care of it... Of you."
As if his words were a soothing balm, Mirian relaxed into his gentle touch that roamed her skin like she was burning. Burning hot with desire.
Perhaps, if she gave in to this lust, by tomorrow, she’d think straight and make the right decision.
She told herself as she reached for Marcus’s waist, tugging his pants.
Marcus’s eyes flashed and his restraint snapped.
...
Meanwhile, Detroit, who was escorting a caravan to the Black Moon Pack, felt a chill run down his spine followed by a soaring pain that threw him off his horse.
He landed hard on the ground, his vision blurring as he clutched at his chest. The pain was intense, like a knife twisting in his heart.
He knew this feeling, had experienced it only once before - when his mother had passed away. It was the sensation of a bond being severed, or in this case, being broken.
"Zeta!" The caravan halted as a few worried voices rang from their horses. "Are you alright?"
Zeta Detroit stumbled to his feet, his eyes narrowed, scanning the dark horizon as if willing it to manifest the face of the man who had severed his connection with Mirian. Who had removed his claim on her.
Detroit didn’t mark her yet because Mirian wasn’t ready, so he gave her his adornment.
The bone and feather were not ordinary adornments - they were infused with some sort of spiritual energy. Every member of the Dark Snow Pack had two of those infused with energy. When given to a chosen she-wolf, it served as a substitute for a mate bond. Having it torn off a she-wolf meant rejection.
But Detroit wasn’t one to take rejection lightly. Not when he knew that Mirian wanted him too.
Getting on his horse, he turned to the caravan, his eyes blazing with fury. "We don’t stop for rest until we get to the Black Moon Pack."
The caravan members nodded, their faces set with determination. They knew that when Zeta Detroit’s eyes burned with that kind of fire, it was best to get out of his way.
With a swift kick, Detroit sent his horse galloping forward, the caravan thundering behind him. The sound of pounding hooves echoed through the night, a harbinger of the storm that was to come.
