Chapter 117: Xavier’s Punishment

Chapter 117: Xavier’s Punishment

For the next few days, Reana kept herself busy with pack matters, while her spy at Madam Katherine’s side fed her news from that end.

Like Reana expected, the woman had been in a state of shock, drifting in and out of a coma.

It’s been three days and Xander had not been brought to her, so today, after the morning meeting, Reana passed her judgement on him.

"Xavier has defiled the laws of our pack and the bond of family. He’d viewed me as less a leader who could summon him. Xavier not only disturbed the peace and important project of the pack, he intended to kill a fellow pack member."

She continued, "For the past few days, he’d not been seen in his post, supervising the workers under him, leaving the Eastern and Southern borders vulnerable to rogue attacks."

Elder Thomas gasped. That was a huge accusation!

Granted, his son had been negligent of his work ever since he returned back after his kidnap.

As one of the two generals, he was in charge of keeping an eye on the Eastern and Western borders, distributing resources to the Zetas of both borders, collating the reports, and then reporting directly to the Luna.

But thanks to the mess he created, he’d not shown up at the borders, but it didn’t mean that the borders were left vulnerable.

There were two powerful and competent Zetas under Xavier, overseeing the matters of each border, so what vulnerability was the Luna talking about?!

The Luna continued, ignoring the scowl on Elder Thomas’s face as if she’d not seen it or didn’t care.

"For what he’d done, it is clear that Xavier does not put importance in the security of the pack, which belies his position as the Delta. For that reason, he shall be stripped of his title and privileges, effective immediately."

Collective gasps escaped from the elders council and the few high-ranking warriors, their faces etched with shock and disbelief.

The Luna wasn’t wrong to strip Xavier of his titles because he’d refused to appear after being summoned, and today was the third day, however, stripping him off his privileges, as a blue-blooded, high-ranking werewolf, the elders council may not agree to it.

Because, it could upset the delicate balance of power in the pack. Most of them had children who bullied omegas, so what would happen if the Luna stripped them of their titles and privileges too?

To them, Xavier’s punishment seemed like a slippery slope, one that could potentially threaten their own power and status within the pack. And they couldn’t afford to stand for that.

"Luna, this is quite... severe, don’t you think?" Elder Collins spoke up, his voice laced with caution. "Xavier is, after all, a high-ranking member of our pack. Stripping him of his privileges may be seen as... excessive." He paused, choosing his words carefully. "Perhaps, a more...measured approach would be in order?"

Elder Collins heard that his niece, Vivian had tried to poison the Luna, but surprisingly, the Luna was immune to poison. He didn’t like that Vivian died, as his sister had been drifting in and out of a coma, but he couldn’t entirely blame the Luna for Vivian’s fate.

He’d told his sister, Katherine to stay her hand and stop her children from going after the Luna, but they wouldn’t listen, and now, he, himself, was treading carefully around the Luna.

Luna Reana may not have announced Vivian’s transgression to the pack, she may have sealed the matter away, saving their family from the public’s ire, but he knew the Luna wouldn’t just let an attempt on her life slip just like that.

He wondered what she was thinking, which was why he was approaching this matter in a more polite manner.

"What does Elder Collins suggest?" Reana asked, tilting her head to the side, her eyes narrowing slightly as she awaited his response.

Elder Collins hesitated, clearing his throat before speaking. "Well, Luna, perhaps a temporary suspension of privileges, pending a full investigation and review of Xavier’s actions?"

"A temporary suspension, you say?" her lips curled into an unamused smile, eyes flashing with ice. "Perhaps, you need the temporary suspension more, Elder Collins. A suspension from advising me, that is."

The room fell silent, with all eyes fixed on the exchange between Reana and Elder Collins. The elder’s face turned a deep shade of red, his eyes widening in indignation, but he wisely chose to hold his tongue, sensing the danger that lurked beneath Reana’s icy demeanor.

But Elder Thomas was not deterred. This was his son’s life they were talking about. If Xavier is stripped of his titles and privileges, it would not only bring shame to their family, but also jeopardize his future within the pack. "Luna, I implore you," Elder Thomas said, his voice laced with desperation, "consider the consequences of your actions. Xavier is young and foolish, but he is still a member of this pack, and he deserves our compassion and understanding."

Reana stared intently at Elder Thomas, her eyes boring into his, as if searching for something beneath the surface. Her expression was unreadable, a mask of calmness that betrayed no hint of emotion.

The silence between them stretched out, thick with tension, until finally, Reana spoke, her voice low and measured. "Compassion and understanding, Elder Thomas?" she repeated, her words dripping with skepticism. "Is that what your son showed Mirian?"

Elder Thomas’s breath hitched in his throat. He wanted to scream that Mirian was an omega, a servant that did not warrant this vengeance! But he stayed his tongue.

Even though Mirian was an omega, she was his late brother’s daughter. By rights, he should be looking out for his late brother’s family, but not only did he fail them, he turned a blind eye when they were bullied by Xavier.

Elder Thomas didn’t want to dig his own grave, so he sat down with reluctance, fists clenched, jaws locked in a tight, angry line.

His eyes, however, betrayed his seething emotions, flashing with anger, shame, and desperation as he avoided Reana’s piercing gaze.

"Now, I assume this is the last of the objections?" Reana’s gaze swept the hall, her eyes lingering on each face, daring anyone to speak up.

The silence was oppressive, heavy with unspoken thoughts and unresolved tensions. Elder Thomas’s eyes dropped, his shoulders slumping in defeat, while the others nodded or looked away, unwilling to cross the Luna further.

They could sense she was angry. She’d been in a terrible mood for days, rising tension in every morning meetings. Perhaps, they could bring this up another time, when she was in a good mood, they thought.

Reana’s expression remained impassive, but a hint of satisfaction flickered in her eyes. "Very well, then. The decision stands. Xavier is stripped of his titles and privileges, effective immediately." With that, she stood up and strode out.
